    Thanks for doing this video. I wasn't aware of this mower and currently own a Toro Time Master, which has been a repair nightmare. I'd but this without hesitation if it weren't for the typical problem with these types of machines, which is battery cost. At $800.00 for a replacement, I'd have to have a 10 year guarantee on battery life to feel comfortable.

      Gunny, thanks for sharing your personal experience with the timemaster.
      The 80V battery currently has a 3yr warranty and extends to 5yr once you register it. I have to agree that the battery cost is pretty steep. $800 is the price of a new mower or a bunch of gas.

    Thanks for the review. I got almost an acre and have used the 40v Ryobi for the last 3 years. I love the cut quality, and the quiet. (I can mow a 7am and nobody notices). But it takes almost 4 batteries. This 30 could be my perfect solution.

    The Home Depot list price for the Ryobi 80V battery is $899.00 and it's Ryobi 80V charger is $734.02 for a total $1,633.02. $2,000 - $1,633.02 = $366.98 would be left to cover the actual lawnmower. It's almost aways much cheaper to buy things in its fully equipped package. If something were to happen where nether the charger or the battery were working well and they are out of warranty then like other battery powered tools it typically makes more sense to simply replace the whole system with a new battery powered mower.
    This is a good showing that there is a gasoline comparable battery powered self propelled walk behind lawnmower available at about $2,000. A 15,000 sq. ft. lawn is about the normal limit for walk behind lawnmower so it's a good test for battery range. I'd like to have heard how the lawn cutting times compared with the gasoline lawnmower. You state its a bit harder to maneuver than the smaller gasoline mower, but did you need to do more string trimmer cutting because of that? This is actually a mini landscape mower at 30" cut so it should be a fair bit faster than the 21" standard walk behind mower.
    The thin section plastic around the cutting plenum doesn't look nearly as tough as on a Honda Harmony. The plastic doesn't look like long lasting Rubbermate like plastic. It looks like toy plastic that will shrink and become brittle with age and exposure.

      @dubaudiproject861  Рік тому

      Thank you for breaking down the cost of the battery, charger, and mower. This same cost comparison could also be done with the new and upcoming Toro. The current timemaster cost around 1500 - 1800, depending on the model and the upcoming battery version is projected to be around 2400. The Toro holds three batteries (60V) at different amp sizes. I couldn't find the price of the 10amp, but found a price of the 6amp at 245 each. Even at the 6amp price, that would be 750 for three and even more for the 10amp. However, the Toro batteries can be used on more products outside their mower line. Hoping (fingers crossed) that Ryobi continues to develop products that can take advantage of their new 80V 10 amp (suitcase style) battery.
      When I was referring to the mower being harder to maneuver, I feel my wife and I would need more behind the handle time to get used to the size/weight difference. My lawn isn't the typical straight forward front yard and backyard, so its hard to do an exact time comparison. We just noticed that it took less time (passes back and forth) to complete the backyard. I know its not a great answer, but it was noticeable between my wife and I. When the rain stops, we plan on doing a video on how well it bags.
      As for the plastic, it is actually more rigid than what it appears across my video. Don't judge, but I even took some time and examined the wheels. The bearings are currently well lubricated and spins freely. It also doesn't have a hollow sound when knocking on it with a solid object. It actually appears to have some weight to them, since they need to support the 117lbs mower. The next thing I could do is weigh each wheel, but I'm afraid of breaking the center cap.
      I took some time to look at the cutting deck and the shape isn't typical hub, but with some different angles to provide support. There is also a metal brace surrounding the outside edges. I assume that is for protection and structural reinforcement. I was trying to watch some other Ryobi 40V mowers and they seem to have the metal brace.

    My rant to Ryobi who too their credit reached out to me.
    I really appreciate that your company is taking the time to reach out to customers. It says a lot about your company, and I genuinely appreciate it.
    Unfortunately I feel as though I have become a beta tester for your new product. A product that dug up my lawn and weighs over 100 pounds, so it’s a pain to get back to the store.
    I wanted to love this lawnmower. I have a hybrid vehicle and solar panels, and I am all for being green. I am also all for not changing carburetors which seems to be a big problem with gas engines. Finally, I am aware that small electric motors pack a big punch for getting up hills and turning blades. It will certainly outperform its gas competition in this area. I was really impressed with battery and charger, wow it charges fast.
    The problem is, it doesn’t mow the lawn properly, and it cost $2K. It cuts the grass far worse than my 2005ish under $200 lawn mower. It doesn’t just miss spots, it misses entire patches. It doesn’t cut the grass because the blades slow down. I have no way to control the blade speed. I understand that is to extend the battery life so it will mow 1 acre. I don’t have 1 acre and would prefer the blades run at full speed all of the time.
    Its impossible that your engineers were unaware of this problem. If they were not, you should get new engineers. A system that spins up when it detects grass, and has a several second spin up time is never going to work for people with real crappy lawns like mine. I am sure it works great in the rough at Augusta (where the Masters is played if your not a golfer), but it doesn’t work on my crappy inconsistent grass.
    You sold me a problem. Its going back to the store. I considered trying to wire in a switch so I could turn the blades up, but thankfully my wife convinced me that is a crazy idea. I will be sticking with gas. I hope you fix the problem, because I so wanted to love this mower. Please don’t use customers at beta testers without them being aware of it. It really is a huge inconvenience.
    I appreciate your time listening to my ranting Alex. Please send this to your engineers who need to hear how poorly they are doing. I know they can do better. Ryobi has some fantastic products.

      Adam, I really appreciate you sharing your experiences with this group.
      My grass is a tall fescue and have notice any patches. What I see as an issue is the overall length (front to back). I'm not too sure what they didn't make the blades side by side like the Toro timemaster or greenworks 25". Since Ryobi decided to place the blades in an angle it makes the front longer to accommodate the angle cutting deck. I find myself forgetting how long the front is and lift to trun right or left. What that means I miss a patch of grass. It would have been nice to have caster wheels.
      Like you said the mower weighs 117lbs without the battery and more with it...I also can't forget about bagging and the weight of the grass clippings. With all that weight, lifting the front to turn digs the rear tires on the ground. This would matter if the ground is hard, but unfortunately mine is not so it digs into the soil.
      Another area is the width of the handle. The Toro timemaster angles in, so the width of the handle isn't as wide. The 30" Ryobi is a straight bar, so the width is huge making left and right turns clumsy.
      Lastly is the styling. I feel that Ryobi missed the mark
      Their 80V ride on lines has more balck coloring separating them from the previous line. They could have followed that design template instead of the color scheme of their 16" mowers.
      Don't get me started on their joystick ride on mowers...lol

It has more power, the blades spin at full speed all the time and the perfect pace system is easier to use and instantly responds. It turns easier and doesn't dig up the lawn despite being 30ish lbs heavier. I wish I had gotten the Toro mower first and not bothered with the Ryobi.

    You mentioned that the blade speed is adjustable? Is the "Throttle" you mention in the description used for self propulsion speed, or does it change the blade speed?
    I've been using a Kobalt 80v mower for the last six years now, and I really like it except for one thing... It does have a fast blade speed and a slow blade speed, and it defaults to the slow blade speed unless it detects that the blade is slowing down, then it kicks into fast blade speed. It is completely automatic, and the blade speed is not able to be changed by the user.
    This really sucks in areas like mine (scorching hot desert) where the grass varieties we have to plant are stiff and broad leaf. The low blade speed doesn't stand the blades of grass up well enough, nor does it provide enough vacuum to remove lawn detritus thoroughly enough. If they had just given the user the ability to chose to run it in high speed all the time it would've been the perfect mower.
    If the Ryobi (and possibly the coming eTimemaster) does in fact have user adjustable blade speed, it'll be a "shut up and take my money" situation.

    • @dubaudiproject861
      @dubaudiproject861  Рік тому +1

      The throttle is solely for forward motion (walking speed). Unfortunately the blade speed is exactly how you are describing yours. The blade only increases when it senses a larger load ..aka thicker grass. My grass wasn't too long when I cut it, but I did hear the blades increase in speed in thicker areas.

    It seems like the entire underside (not including the cutting area, of course) should be covered with a plastic cover (like an electric car). That would prevent wet grass from sticking into all of that honeycomb area and, more importantly, it would protect that motor/transmission component that drives the rear wheels. I don't think it would have cost much for Ryobi to include a cover.

    As a small business owner, I found out that you can deduct the cost of a lawn mower off your taxes. With so many people having a home business, this can for sure help! Also, when you look at many lawn care production companies now offering EV equipment for blowers, edging, etc., the same battery can be used. I really like the idea of the easy folding so it takes up less space in your garage. I will use it for mostly leaves as Alabama is 85% tree cover from out mountain lakes regions to the Gulf Shore beaches, going from most of the state all sub-tropical long seasons, but still more trees than most states. I live on a bluff over 1,200 feet straight down to the valley with heavy canopy hard woods and lots of leaves in late winter. I do have a lawn care company take care of the grass, but they stop after the so-called last leaf fall period, but the winds and millions of trees have their own period of releasing their respective leaves, so I am tired of raking leaves with the wife and this is a great fix. I will keep my summer lawn care company, as a small business operating all over the state, I do not want to go back to that hot summer period, just the winters with leaves for us! After a year or so, it will be time for a driving EV, as the repair for gas is past its prime, gas stinks, oil, air filters, plugs, etc. as all are reflected in the huge numbers of people buying now mostly EV's across America, at least with lawn mowers, NOT SO, with cars, but we all understand that and that is yet another video. I will keep my new Acura MDX until we get 500,000 charging level 2 charging stations and next level batteries that get you at least 500 miles per charge. When you travel a state of 52,000 square miles more than all the New England states via business you can not spend all your time staying motels so you can charge a SUV. Time is money!

As it was made for a large human. I guess that translates into turning left or right. If you have ever seen the Toro Timemaster, the front wheels are closer together, and the rear wheels are not too far apart. I wish I had a Timemaster to compare it side bybside. This may not be an issue to you or others, but it's a mental wall that I can't seem to climb over.

      @@dubaudiproject861 thanks for the update! Glad to hear the cut and power is excellent! I hope that the battery is able to last during my entire cut and that the longevity of the battery lasts for many years without much degradation. My Craftsman electric mower battery completely died after 4 years. Glad to see this mower has a 5-year warranty. I can tell you that it handled the damp grass well with a very few stragglers. This was mostly from the tires bending the grass over before it had a chance to get cut. I assume this issue would be present in any mower with larger wheels.

But they had to make it on the 80 volt platform and charge so much . Highly unlikely they make an 80 volt battery to use on other ope equipment unless they will make a backpack for that battery. Even if they make a backpack for this 80 volt system. They make a backpack for their 40 volt line that could accept 3 - 40v 12ah batteries which would be a 40volt 36 ah backpack … GREED RYOBI PURE GREED
