Quite a slice of time in this one. The opening scene is a neighborhood in Novato, California. The road to the base was over Ignacio Blvd and the base is the former Hamilton Air Force Base, then right outside the city limits of Novato. The base housed the 78th Fighter Group flying the F-86D Sabre jets pictured in the commercial. The cars are parked in front of one of nine iconic hangers that still exist. There is some base housing still occupied by the Coast Guard and a few of the historic buildings still stand. The base was closed in 1983 and turned over to the Army nut it vacated the base in 1993 with the last military use in 1996. The former runways and taxiways were demolished along with the levees that kept San Pablo Bay out of the lower parts of the base. It's all wetlands now, and the higher elevation parts of the base are now new housing projects. The base had a nearly ideal climate, the housing areas were fully landscaped, and the housing was better than most military housing. Higher ranking officers housing was all built in Spanish Mission style, as were most of the structures at the base, and were large and comfortable for a family. The base was only 40 miles from the Golden Gate Bridge, where the cars are pictured driving across. It was a much sought after posting back in the day.

I know they came out with their own version of "turbo hydramatic transmission" (found in GM vehicles), but I don't understand why there wasn't a P button?

1956 I had a Dodge Regent (Canada) 2 Tone Green and White, what a mistake that was, driving from delivery day vent window fell out warranty was bad in those day. From that day on the problems mounted, Until 1960 when I was able to get rid of that car, My wife said your going to have a stroke I was actually beating it with a broom No start in cold, no start if it was sunny no start if sun went behind a cloud, I'm 87 still here but I'll bet not many 56 Dodges around &(*&*&^&^%$&*%% can laugh now but it was not fun for those 4 years.

It's too bad they couldn't have figured out a way for those fins to help steer the car, at least they would have had a purpose!

They do serve a purpose, it makes it way easier when you are backing up - as you just follow the line of the fin with your eye and you know where the back of the car is. Very important with a 12 Foot car ! (I own a 1956 Dodge with Fins)
