yea, but the 50% protection against firebird basically make it and the bonus damage have less of an effect, unless of course you are using pulsar firebird, which make the concept of protections meaningless.
If you invest everything in damage just use Defender and a protection and it will be over, I know this because I do that. Now using the Pulsar augment on DPS turrets is pretty tricky.
This is the firebird and railgun meta. Both of these turrets have a lot of protections against them but both of them still shine. Firebird just does eidiculous damage and railgun's crit rate is way too high, especially if you use round destabilization
This combo I can destroy, now Firebird, Tesla and especially Isida Pulsar along with Defensor and sometimes protection against me is almost impossible to kill alone.

Freeze basically disables your double damage so in a freeze vs firebird fight, the freeze will more than likely win, i think freeze is better right now

So, wanna nerf something? Well at this point it's not a turret or a hull alone that are broken, but full combos. What you were using in this match was very effective mostly because (and in order): 1) no defender+50%prot from Fire, which I would say should be a must in certain modes and maps; 2) mouse controls, which give you so much evasiveness even the most accurate turrets can miss their shots having you 2 feet away from them; 3) Paladin's OD, which gives you the possibility of healing yourself for 30 secs or so and be immune to all status effects but burning. We should also consider your experience in the game, teammates that support you and the game mode as factors, but the other three are more relevant. And this is why I agree with you in the fact that Tanki will not nerf this, because nerfing Fire alone would mean turning it back into the mediocre turret it was before three or four months ago. However, nerf Paladin, mouse controls and speed boosting drones (amongst other things) and you'll see how Fire ceases to be meta, or as meta at the very least.
There is one thing I would like to challange about this defender+prot forces you to run defender, which is not as good as some other drones, such as crisis (yes i know it eats a lot of supplies, and you would rather use a drone that only eats 1 supply rather than all of them, but we're talking short term here). A lot of the math with 90% armor is obsurd, with protections, you basically never die. Shaft heavy cap crisis no longer one shots (as far as im aware), railgun is a 4-5 hit kill if they dont crit, firebird takes 9-10 seconds instead of 5. (This is mostly estimated, idk if there was a balance change that changed the math) all of this is before a repair. Hammer, scorpion, gauss, and tesla dont do enough damage to be relevent. (So long as pulsar doesnt crit, which is a low chance.) Its actually obsurd how much 90% over 70% makes a difference. I forgot the math when it comes to defender, but I'd assume its a tad bit worse. The only other thing I would like to say, is that immunity to all status effects is only op, because tanki thought they would be a good idea to add, but were mistaken in that idea so much. I wouldn't mind them so much if they were heavilly nerfed such as: Jammer: you must choose weather or not you want drones, or overdrives deactivated Stun: you can't move, or shoot, but can still use supplies, other than repair. Emp: you must choose 2 supplies to be prioritised in de-activation before the game begins. Burning: 300->250 Freeze: This is actually in a good state rn. They won't, have you seen the last patch notes? Decreasing magnum and railgun crit chance by a lot...man those turrets have been so weak for so long, but nooo let's make them even worse! They don't give a McFuck about balance

Firebird had higher heating rate than it does now and freeze had higher freezing rate so the two were never "equal". Early firebird was basically compact fuel tanks
Tbh, all close range weapons should be this strong, becouse if some long range weapons are strong then evryone is gonna camp. Also still not OP considering that some long range weapons can oneshot you at any distance... Not to mention it is not that it would be that strong, long range weapons are stronger, but you can avoid some long range weapons by using different path, but you cannot avoid this, this will hunt you down. And that oportunity to kill, that is what makes it dangerous and look more powerfull.
I HATE paladin so frickin bad. Every tryhard buyer uses this combo and with no skill are decimating everyone...it's so infuriating, I wish they just straight up removed paladin from the game. I hate how something that requires no skill can be this powerful...I refuse to use it cuz I'm not a coward, I'm here for actual skill based playing.

Basically a god combo
This is the firebird and railgun meta. Both of these turrets have a lot of protections against them but both of them still shine. Firebird just does eidiculous damage and railgun's crit rate is way too high, especially if you use round destabilization
High pressure pump can do even more because of the high burning effect
