I'm looking to find the right protection for my chimney at the moment that allows brick and concrete to breathe. Both chimneysaver and drylok claim this. If that's true, then I'd have to disagree with the above reply. Without protection, in the winter water will get into the chimney, freeze, and pop the mortar and concrete.
I use this product, and I've noticed over the years that chimney saver is not beading up like it use to which makes me wonder if the product has changed and isn't as good as it use to be?
not a good idea bricks and mortar are meant to "breath". if yor bricks could talk they would say, "no cure-all surface treatments to cover me up or clog my pores"

Chimney Saver allows bricks to breath. If you watch the video it says that many many times.
