Owning A Supercar - A Personal Tour of The Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 жов 2024
- A tour of this replica of the 1965 Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe, built in 2013. It's a Factory Five Racing Type 65 kit, and includes all brand-new running gear, from the stroked Ford small block engine to the Tremec TKO 600 transmission. Unlike muscle cars of this era, the suspension uses coilover shocks and adjustable front geometry for truly superior handling.
We'll do another video driving it when weather permits, so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss it!
Thanks for watching.
What it’s like to own a super car -> All the kids be like “damn you got an rx8???”
Nice Daytona, I have a roadster, can’t wait to get one of these next!
This is my, and my dad’s dream car. We’re going to be building one in a year. I can’t wait! Your very lucky and have great taste in cars, you know your stuff to. Good video :)
Thanks! How exciting! btw, I have build videos for this car, you may want to have a look at them for ideas and tips. If you message me with your email I'll send them to you, or at least send a link. You can find me on facebook to message me if you like.
West Coast Supercars and Classics Sounds great 👍🏼:) I can give u my email if you would like
@@nokiaquality4796 You can reach me at westcoastsupercarsandclassics@gmail.com
@@nokiaquality4796 Did you do it??
Did you build it
The throwback tires make the whole car. I want to build one of these so bad.
Those wheels are an absolute must-good call
Hi there, this is Michael I met you in the l2 parking lot at uptown!! Thank you for the tour of the Porsche!
A pleasure! Thanks for your interest!
Great video and car, thanks for sharing
Thank you!!
Nice Coupe Mark!! I'm in central Canada, lol not as warm in mid January. Can't drive my FFR MK4 :)
Thx! Yeah, we have are good days and not-so-good this time of year as well. I'm hoping to get the Daytona out of storage this month, but if it's rainy what can you do? :)
Great vid, thanks !
Ive seen the original in a museum in Philadelphia. The curator took it outside for laps and let a freind of mine ride shotgun. Awesome day.
Nooo!! How cool is that?
Absolutely amazing!! Thanks for sharing!
Looking great Mark! Looking forward to getting my cobra on the road again! Come on weather work in my favour!!!
Oh hells yeah! Do you think you might make a trip down South at some point? With or without your Cobra, we could have some fun. I have my other cars we can play with... hehe.
Glad you got out of the house and took the car oat!
this is my and dads dream car too! but it's going to be years before we buy one sadly but good for you!
Beautiful car and the engine looks great too
that rear end is the most debated tail in history...(more so than the Kardashians lol). Love it or hate it, it's truly unique.
It was especially debated before it ended up winning all those races! After that it was mostly admired, right? :)
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics I think that's why it was hated: all those other drivers had to look at it for the entire race! hahaha
BC plate I see! I'm in Vancouver, you have to let me come take a look at this bad boy!! This is my second favourite car all time behind the 250 gto.
I'm in Victoria, but as it happens I sold the car in December 2019 to a gentleman who lives in Vancouver. The car is now there.
He's a diehard enthusiast, I'll send him a note so he can decide if he wants to show it to you. :)
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics that would be incredible!!!
All 6 of the original cars are road legal. Shelby did high speed testing on the M1 in the UK
Sheer perfection 👌👌😀😀
great looking car. i will look for the other driving video.
Great video, Mark!
Great car too, thanks to you!!
Enjoyed much. Thank you.
You in Surrey area.....serviced at Ocean Park?
Hi Mark, thanks a lot for your video. Can I ask how you insured your car in BC?
I’m in Vancouver and was told this week that I cannot insure an AC Cobra that I’d like to bring up from a company in USA.
Possibly if it’s older than 15 years old etc.
Any information you have would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks!
Hi Bruce, AFAIK there's no way to import or export a kit car between Canada and the USA.
Mine was built in NB so that wasn't a problem, although getting it insured was still a hassle, as it has to be inspected and certified.
Your best bet is to buy an existing car in Canada, or build one.
West Coast Supercars and Classics Thanks a lot Mark, I really appreciate it.
Do you know of any names of companies that would do that? I know fast five seems to be a popular one, is that what yours is?
@@bruce7260 Mine was (I sold it in late November to trade on another toy) a Factory Five Racing Type 65 Coupe. They've since updated that design, making the cockpit bigger (easier to get into and out of) and some other improvements to the chassis etc..
It's now the Mark III design, mine was the Mark II.
West Coast Supercars and Classics
Thanks again, I will look into it. I was hoping to buy a completed car but Canada says no unless it is at least 15 years old. And apparently no way around it as I am researching so far.
Of course I could just get one that’s 15 years old! But wanted a newer build.
More homework needed!
Has this car sold yet? Couldn't find it on the dealer website under "Ford". Also what is the asking price if it's still available?
It went over to Coachwerks to prep for sale, but it's not listed yet at Silver Arrow. Contact Joel Friesen at 250-516-0495. He'll be able to give you a better idea. Cheers
never trust a guy who is too afraid to give the price
Here in England are speedometers were not like this one on most vehicles, I've never seen one going that way and I'm over fifty
You're right, apparently! I did a bit of digging and it seems to have something to do with the engineering of this car and the Smiths gauges people. One story is that the cable from the gearbox was rotating counter-clockwise and they decided not to put a reversing gearbox in behind the gauge.
Strangely it never bothered me having the thing go the other way, mind you I rarely look at the speedo, I only care about the tach!! XD
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics Yup, first smiths guage I've seen running that way and I've seen alot of smiths guages lol, they're terrible, usually the odometer packs in way before the speedometer 😂, av a gud'n mate 🇬🇧 👍
That's my dream car. I would do anything for one of those
“This is a very short door. It is also not a tall door.” bonus
It's partly for this reason that FFR created the Gen III Type 65 Coupe - one of the challenges of the car is ingress/egress, and you need strength and flexibility some people don't have.
I've not seen a Gen III in person but I'm curious to know how much difference there is in that regard.
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics The need to supply a full-body shoe horn... lol
Sounds good !
Doesn't it just? I really appreciated it the day the new owner drove off in it..... I haven't posted that video yet.
How my day would go…… get up at 4:00, brush my teeth, and start the car….. take a shower, go start the car….. go inside and get dressed, look out the window and go start the car….scan the headlines aaannd go start the car. Etc, etc.
AAAAGGGHH! those sparkplug wires are frying my eyeballs.
beautiful Daytona and even more beautiful rx8
I have a spectacular Pantera that I am considering selling and going for a Daytona. The only thing on this car that concerned me the plug wires on the driver side need to be fastened up or something. They are dangerously close to the header. Nice Car!
Thx, if you haven't driven a coupe, you should! Love the Pantera too.
beautiful machine. I would ditch the green plug wires for 10mm Thundervolts in black.
Im interested in price and name of the shop to contact for a possible build of my own, im also in canada and the cobra coupe is my fav car of all time. A reply would be greatly appreciated eh.
Where are you located?
South Ontario.
@@reggielavoie5260 FFR Factory Five Racing will set you up. They have comprehensive kits right down to bare bones. They also have been dealing with the MOT and Canada Customs etc.
Contact them, they are only too happy to answer all your questions. I looked into it about 10 years ago when I had some cash but no place to build. They have an importer and a contact in Canada Customs, everything. If you let them know when you can go down, they'll even give you a factory tour and give you a day's instruction on how to build. They really are the cat's ass when it comes to support. (BTW: I'm in Ontario as well).

Hey thx mike. Much appreciated.

"How's it going?" Well, the wallpaper my wife bought is the wrong one, added to that she got Value range white matt emulsion so that'll take at least 4 coats to see a difference so I'm heading back to the hardware store now to go and change it. goo.gl/maps/SjUem54rGcM2 Apart from that, the dentist phoned yesterday to cancel my appointment so I'll have to keep popping a painkiller or two till I get a new time. My hamster seems to be eating better now after some sort of bug he had, I'll change his bedding this afternoon. Might look into new food for him too as the stuff I've got seems to be disagreeing with him.
Sorry...where are you in this video? Canada? The name of city?
Victoria BC, on the Southern tip of Vancouver Island.
How many people see those numbers and assume it’s a 1998” GT something?
Nice Shelby.
About the opening in front of the engine there it was more than just what you were talking about there's also making sure the heat doesn't get back into the engine compartment and also the drivers compartment. High output engines develop a lot of heat and it's a problem to deal with. The driver of the car is just as important as all the other machinery. Again reiterating about the engine compartment, when you send the heat out above the vehicle before it even enters the engine compartment that's helping the engine stay cool quite a bit. Think about a radiator in front of an engine it's not the smartest way to go right? So the engine heat is going through the radiator then the wind comes through the radiator and then heated air goes over the engine AGAIN that's not with this car, but normally and then of course the engine is getting heat back into it. I mean this isn't rocket science right? So if you have a naturally aspirated engine great! If you have a turbocharged engine you've got to have intercoolers because of heat and again, it's your enemy so even a naturally aspirated engine needs lots of cool air.
SpaceX densifies liquids. Cold air provides more oxygen for the engine it's the same idea. More oxygen means you can pump more fuel into the engine on a per unit time scale and make more power. Baby you got to know this. It's all about the power.
Is the roof a little different than the original one?
I'm not really sure how it might differ. I believe it's very close to the original.
@@WestCoastSupercarsandClassics Actually, a video here on YT hosted by an FFR rep, specified the parameters of the Daytona build. He declared the wheelbase had been stretched five inches, & the whole of the car "inflated" proportionately. His reasoning was "it's just too small". There has been comments that the original dimensions made for difficulties getting into the car...the car definitely not for the plus-sized. I chided the rep for his "market-driven decision", bypassing authenticity for monetary gain. Frankly if you're too fat to fit, just buy a pickup truck..
Did you build this?
Sorry for not replying sooner. It was built by a gentleman in New Brunswick, and I bought it from him.
Nice houses
Do you think you could get a v10 to fit into the car
That's a frightening thought! The chassis is designed for a V8, I can't imagine what you'd do with extra power though.
The nose is not made like that to keep it from gaining lift. Its there to keep hot air out of the engine compartment.
Hamlock Maneuver. It was designed to keep the car from lifting on the long straight aways at lemans.
can you tell us about your tire and wheel setup?
Where do you put the front license plate?
@Crescendo - Over the fireplace might work!
They also ran GT40's in 1965.
Yes true, although a Shelby-era MkI wasn't involved until February 1965, and the Daytona Coupes were retired from racing. I was really just summarizing in passing.
Technically speaking just because a car has super performance doesn't mean its called a supercar. A term supercar is defined by mid engine hi performance machines. The Shelby coupe is more of a GT race car.
It is mid engined. Although in front of the driver the engine is between both the front and rear axle.
boblo olbob 😂
"... is defined by..." yeah, good luck with that!
has nothing to do with luck just known facts, you have good luck with that
B.S Noodleman nope. No one agrees on what a supercar is. There is, at best, a general consensus and not facts at all.
Lol everybody here in Canada has one!
Beautiful, just Beautiful. I love my FFR MK III Cobra Replica. Check out mine, let me know what you think.
I will! Thanks for stopping by!
She's beautiful
Unless you put that engine in yourself. It's a 351 Cleveland engine.
I don't know where the whole Chevy/350/Cleveland idea came into this comments section. It's a stroked small block, 347 cu in. I have the build sheet from the engine shop, honest! :)
West Coast Supercars and Classics look up the history of that car.
@@Silentjackll I did, I have the entire parts list because I bought it from the builder. Because it's a custom engine build, you might be seeing parts that remind you of the other configuration. This one is a stroked 289.
West Coast Supercars and Classics actually no. An original has the 289. A stock 65 replica kit comes with a 351 Cleveland.
West Coast Supercars and Classics I'm curious. Do you even know what a 351 Cleveland is? Because I noticed you said Chevy...
Aww man as soon as you said replica i was a biit disappointed. Trust me im not being rude your replica is still awesome but im trying to find a owner here on UA-cam that owns a actual daytona. Still mad props to your classic super car brotha. I love the sound of these machines.
Good luck. There are only 6 originals in the world.
With all due respect Mark, if i owned a 10 million pound Daytona, I would most likely be talking with someone like Lord March the owner and organiser of the Goodwood Members Meet, rather than some random bloke on UA-cam
Just a few 1000 kilometers on it, so it rarely gets driven... a shame considered how much he probably paid for it.
I dunno, it's pretty much a fun toy, not something you get groceries in, or do road trips in.
It's rare for folks to drive street-legal race cars that much per year.
Maybe if it didn't rain so much out here... LOL
5.7 what please not a chevy.
Ford small block :)
I've heard Factory Five does good work; what price was your coupe ? PS: I like how it look's like the original !
Thanks, yes the builder tried to keep it as close as possible. I put a full interior on it with Dynamat, so it's a little more comfortable than it was.
FFR are the most prolific Cobra replica maker, and they're much more affordable than Superformance or Shelby. I don't discuss prices usually, but this build used all new components, which is more expensive than using a donor car. RU thinking of building?
Yes, I will build with all new aftermarket part's; by doing the work myself , the cost is 1/5 th the cost. I'm not going to pay $200,K for a track/street car. Like revology/classic rec. charges. I might have cobra auto. do some of my work.
5.7L for the rest of the world
Nice car...... Terrible Music.
Hehe well you can't please everyone!! Glad you like the car though!
and shifter and spark plug wires and fram oil filter....and he is sketchy cuz he wont give price
Stop dancing around.
LOL, you don't like my dancing?
West Coast Supercars and Classics You seem to have been moving around a lot, that's all. LOVE your Daytona though.
Yeah, I guess so... thanks, yeah the Daytona is a sick machine. It's one of the most evocative automotive designs ever. It just seems so much more complete compared with the roadsters, yet they're far more popular to build.
West Coast Supercars and Classics . Sorry for being a jerk. You were just fine. I remember an old movie from the 60s were a race car driver is diving one on the street and spins one out. Doesn't wreck it but I think leaves it in a ditch. Did you ever see that old movie? Beautiful car. The Viper Gts kind of reminds me of them.
LOL no problem, friend! Yes, I saw a Viper yesterday and was thinking the same thing. A modern equivalent; although for the most contemporary version my pick is the Mercedes AMG GTS or GTR - I've driven one and loved it. Never driven a Viper though
awkard
10 minutes of blabbering and no drive?????? I am building a F5 coupe right now. And my vids WILL BE ridiculous.
I explained on the video that it's winter and I'm just warming it up. 13 seconds into it there's a link to a driving video. I have several drive videos on the channel, please check them out.

I owned one of these cars for 3 years. FFR Gen 1. It was the coolest looking car but the worst reliable car I ever owned. The day it sold was a great day. First of all, never buy one of these with under 2500 miles. It takes thousands of miles to get the bugs out of it.. the new owner has already dropped 9k in repairs in the first 6 months he owned it. Cool cars but major money pits..
Sorry you had that experience. Since they're all custom built, you can't extrapolate any single build to all others.
This one was fun to own, I had it for 5 years and the gent who bought it from me (a superfan of them) has taken his vision and lavished it with care.
I should go do a followup video so you can see where he's taken it. For starters, he wanted a different engine colour, so he went to the trouble of removing it and repainting it; he wanted a more original look to the rear window so replaced that... and the list goes on.
These are very easy to work on so I didn't find it a chore; I enjoyed working on it myself. But it's not an OEM car with a warranty!
It appears that the drivers side plug wires are laying directly on the header. ?
Keen eye! They're close, it might look that way from this angle. No issues at all with them though. :)
did the builder post build videos or anything?
Yes, you can find him at ua-cam.com/users/kiki231000
No one is going to mention the Fram filter? Really?
