Ronald William Lacey (28 September 1935 - 15 May 1991) was an English actor. He made numerous television and film appearances over a 30-year period and is perhaps best remembered for his roles as Harris in Porridge, SD agent Sturmbannfuhrer Arnold Ernst Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark and the Bishop of Bath and Wells in Blackadder II.
Also watched him recently in a 60s movie called "The Boys". Where he's accused of murder alongside three of his friends. Really good movie, worth a watch.
Don't know how often you look in the YT comment section for recommendations, but I wanna suggest The Fast Show's 'The very best of jazz club' (10 min). Absolutely brilliant in my opinion!
Just to let you know (since you refer to him in a later video) that the actor who played the “Baby eating bishop of Bath & Wells” is Ronald Lacey, a fine character actor who played creepy or villainous roles. Not only did he perform on numerous occasions in the great British sitcom, Porridge as Harris, a slimy individual, he also played the Gestapo officer with the devilish looking coat hanger in Raiders of the Lost Ark. As I said, he was a great character actor who sadly died of liver cancer at 55.
(Excluding series 1) Pound-for-pound Blackadder is the GOAT of British comedy. 🐐 “This is the stickiest situation since Sticky The Stick-Insect got stuck on a sticky bun”. 😂 E. Blackadder.
Thank you for these reactions Josh. Just know that the effort you put in to putting out this much content does not go unappreciated. Merry Christmas mate!
Season 2 of Blackadder is the best imo but i also ADORE Hugh Laurie in season 3 so thats a close second... been watching your Fawlty Towers reactions and delirious to see youve done Blackadder as well!
This is the best episode from season 2, and the only episode from season 2 that I find funny from start to finish. I can’t wait til you get to season 3 and 4, then things pick up.
"It was very bad my little chickadee. In fact if you weren't quite so big, it would be time for Mr and Mrs Spank to take a short sharp trip to Botty-land."
The baby eating Bishop of Bath and Wells is the same actor who played the Nazi Gestapo officer in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark who has the inscription on a medallion burnt into his hand that's a clue to the whereabouts of the Ark of the Covenant.
From series two through to four are some of the best comedy ever made, however you do need a fairly good level of historical knowledge to fully appreciate it.
"Never before have I encountered such corrupt and foul-minded perversity! Have you ever considered a career in the Church?" That line REALLY isn't funny anymore...
02:30 Except that Martin Luther was more concerned about Christian scripture than human rights, unlike a similarly named gentleman from the 20th century. 18:00 Looks like he's invented putty.
It's weird, Baldrick seems noticeably more witty and clever than usual at times in this episode. Sure, he still has utterly moronic moments like his "disguise a bull as a game cock" idea but stuff like the way he subtly pitches the rent boy suggestion and his sarcastic "oh, fair enough" when Blackadder says he'd rather die really stand out as unusual for him.
Hey josh PLEEEEASE can you react to scottish post man pat it's so funny you'd love it if you liked the irish man who lost his soup you are bound to like scottish post man pat
In it's day, Blackadder was so far ahead of comedy as we knew it. Cutting edge , brave and sometimes shocking. Today, with the soul-less weak Woke values, imposed on us, it's as fresh and pleasing as ever.
my advice is to watch all of this, your impatience is spoiling the plot and suspense - mind you, you've been weened on social media vignettes of less than 30 seconds...you poor unfortunate soul
Left out the best Blackadder scene ever: "Oh, Edmond, can it be true, that i hold here in my mortal hand, a nugget of purest green?"
More of a splat
Best bit was just before that...
"Beehhhoooolllllllddddddd!!!!"
@@chriss6733 A splat today, but tomorrow, who knows, or dares to dreeeeeeam
I forgot that scene, fucking great
The actor who plays Baldrick was given a real life Knighthood by Queen Elizabeth II. He's now Sir Tony Robinson.
I’m sure he had a Cunning Plan…
Black Adder is one of the best series. I’m glad they didn’t make too many.
Miranda Richardson played Queenie perfectly, when anyone refers to Queen Elizabeth, I automatically picture Miranda Richardson.

He was a really good actor, you wouldn't think it's the same guy.
Awesome bud thanks for the info. I will have to check out more with him on it.
never knew that was Harris!
Also watched him recently in a 60s movie called "The Boys". Where he's accused of murder alongside three of his friends. Really good movie, worth a watch.
The actor playing the bishop is also the nazi with the burnt hand in Raiders of the lost ark.
Miranda Richardson-The Queen-based her on a school class mate that talked and acted like that.
Oh ok thanks bud.
Love how Baldrick's 40,000 to 1 cockfight plan is spot on. Maths wise.

‘T’is a brooch my lord. A brooch cunningly fashioned from pure green.
You are now an honorary Brit as far as I'm concerned BTW.
He hasn’t done the young ones yet…..
LOL thanks bud.
@@AfterWorkReactions Porridge is great, if you haven't seen it, then I can highly recommend. Enjoy if you do check it out.
@@AfterWorkReactions LOVD THY NEIGHBOUR PMEASE PLEASE PLEASE
Any Downton Abbey fans here? Mrs Pants was played by Leslie Nicol, who was Mrs Patmore in Downton. This was her ~25 years before DA.
I love your laugh. Cheers me up no end in the middle of a gray, English summer day.
Ron Lacey, great actor. Did a great job here as the Bishop of Bath and Wells.

2:49 - That's one of the few times Baldrick got serious.
Can’t believe you left the bit out about the pure green!
This is the best episode from season 2, and the only episode from season 2 that I find funny from start to finish. I can’t wait til you get to season 3 and 4, then things pick up.

your reactions make blackadder even funnier haha love it

I thought I must have overslept
LOL some shows I have a hard time uploading unfortunatly.
Mrs Pants is Mrs Patmon from Downton Abbey
Beat me to it. Mrs Patmore, played by Leslie Nicol.
One of the best Episodes of this Season! 😁😄

It still amazes me that Toht from Raiders of the Lost Ark is in this episode.
Next episode includes a Puritan aunt and uncle and a booze up at the same time. I'm saying no more...
LOL thanks bud.
Luck! Get it?

Why would you cut out Percy's discovery of Green?
The best scene by far.
Can you watch Withnail and I? Think you might like it.
Thanks for the recommendation bud I have that one on my list to check out.
Has anyone ever suggested Gavin and Stacey for you to react to?
Brilliant

I wonder if this was really recommended, or why the heck. It is probably a runner-up for the least interesting Blackadder scene of all.
