The Ref may have made some errors but they were decisive.
The errors that we made were the reason we lost a game we should have won easily, or comfortably.
I think Gregg's focus on the Ref shows that he doesn't do the work of forming a group character in the USMNT. These players are happy or not angry when they lose.
The USMNT should have a much stronger personality by let's say a year ago.
Now, Gregg is too late in dealing with this or fixing it, he's content with the relationship he has with the players. And the players say they like him.. I don't understand when in Soccer everybody is liking everybody but there are no results.
Where are the results that normally come with liking each other USMNT?
If this is what it means to be successful in liking each other, let the love turn to hate just bring on some positive results.

It is the US FANS who are the most important component of US Soccer.
FANS endure a lot to come to the stadium and support their National team, not so the Coach or a players can be happy. The relationship works only in reverse.
When the FANS are happy, then the players will be happy, then the Coach.
I think with Gregg it seems that he thinks if the Players are happy with him, that everything.

    Cpt. Keller is right!
Don't blame the Ref. he was correct in his calls.
It seemed during the game that the Ref was too tough, but you realize immediately that he was willing to admit his errors and correct himself based on what the VAR showed him.
    T. Weah made a silly mistake, but the bigger point is the USMNT as a Team is NOT mature enough , and this goes back to the COACH.
It is the coach that selects the players and form the Team.
The same concept in Marketing or Psychology, you have the Responsibility as the Leader (the COACH) to form the personality of the team. This team has no personality or is a weak as a group.
It is also true that our players as individuals are very talented.
We've seen this elsewhere where the individual players are talented but the team is weak.
So, it's safe to safe Coach Gregg Berholter DID NOT FORM A GOOD Group.
The question is: if you give him another year will he form a better USMNT?
I don't think so, because I sincerely doubt he even realizes that it's his responsibility to form the group, or that they don't have a strong character.
I see Gregg on the sideline celebrating the first goal and that gives me the impression that he himself is not convinced of the group or doesn't know how to form a National Team Group.
They have to have the character of 1994, 1998, 2002... a group of players who want to WIN.
You see them content with losing and then Gregg defends them and they like him...
What is the Character of this USMNT?
Is the Mission of US Soccer Fed, that the Players like their Coach?
    That's it?
This coach doesn't reassure you he can even match the level of 1994 1998 2002
He should be a lot more ambitious than that, which he is not.
Gregg Berhalter vs Panama was outclassed by Coach Christiansen.
I like Gregg from back when he was a Player, and wished that he succeeds as USMNT head coach. Time to Smell the coffee, he will not do better than what we saw so far.
He doesn't have what Bruce Arena had as coach, while he probably have better players now than 2002. We played some very strong national teams in 2002 - We BEAT Portugal & Mexico

The apology was a ploy to absolve GGG of his own role in the loss. Don't forget GGG has not one signature win, a few signature loses, and were one questionable (gifted) call away from being eliminated from the Nations League by T&T just last month.

The red is warranted 💯. But blaming the ref and calling out the way he referees is also warranted. For those who don’t follow CONCACAF. The ref is known for not controlling games he is in charge of, thus allowing for players to get scrappy. Prior to Weah’s red, the game was already getting scrappy and you don’t even have to mention the miss card that should have been at least a yellow on Matt Turner collision. In the premier league that is normally a red (Everton v New castle) this past season. But then again calls made in CONCACAF arent called the same like in Europe. if the ref had more control of the game, Weah situation most likely doesn’t happen.

November 27, 2023, seven games ago, Sergino Dest lost his mental composure getting a red card costing USMNT a loss vs Trinidad and Tobago. Tim Weah's red card cost the USMNT the game and possibly degrouped us out of Copa America. Since that time USMNT Gregg Berhalter's record is 3 wins, 4 losses, and 1 tie. The question we need to ask ourselves as fans are we better off the last year with Gregg Berhalter?

Blaming the ref is never a good look, but it's crazy how much you all are downplaying the no card decision for taking out Matt Turner. It's a clear yellow, and with there being little attempt to play the ball, could have been checked for red. "VAR fixed all his errors," and that's a problem too, because now the players can't trust any on field decisions, it's gotta all go to VAR.
USMNT should have been much better, much more mature, but you also can't say that a better quality team of officials doesn't drastically change the result of this match.

Hey Herc, the guy taking out our goalkeeper should’ve been ejected. Tempers are already high. With this flagrant aggression ignored, only then did Timmy’s frustration exceed his ability to control it. If the center ref had done his D@#& job, our team would’ve felt like they right to a fair game was upheld, Weah would _not_ have felt the same way when he was provoked, and the other team would be down a man early in the game. Completely different game! 100% How do you not see that?

    • @gkcamden9050
      @gkcamden9050 10 днів тому

You know, when a referee neglects to enforce the rules, the game quickly gets chippy. I was there, sensing the emotions of the fans and our team. Emotions were already high, but they went into overdrive when the Panamanian striker took out our goalkeeper. Dangerous play is encouraged when players believe the referee won’t enforce the rules. The referee already had a questionable reputation. The Panamanian coaches will have briefed their players on how likely he is to enforce the rules. The US coaches said they did. The center ref’s reputation created a situation where a goalkeeper had to leave the game. Hopefully, his injury isn’t career-ending or, worse, doesn’t create a lifelong disability. Not only did the referee fail to eject the dangerous player or even give him a yellow card, but the center ref didn’t even give a warning! By his inaction, the referee created a situation where the US teammates were on an emotional edge, resulting in one of Matt Turner’s teammates being ejected. With a different referee, the US wouldn’t be down a man, but Panama would be.

  • @codycomer4623
    @codycomer4623 10 днів тому

My problem with the ref was letting Panama get away with so many moments that weren’t even remotely football plays that should have been yellow cards. The repeated dragging down of Balogan and the flying NFL tackle of Pulisic in the box (that shoulda been a PK) were the most egregious to me, but there were plenty of things that should have gotten carded and gotten this game reigned in.
But the ref was not the biggest problem in this game at all. The red card (that was absolutely deserved) followed by the complete inability to adjust, and the totally cowardly move of not even trying to play after the half were 100% on the team.

These same “fans” would be calling for Berhalter’s head if he stuck with the 4-4-1 after halftime and Panama scored on a counter. At least Herc knows how hard it is to play a man down for over an hour. The US had a few quality chances in the 2nd half. Balogun had wide open teammates and chose to take a difficult angle on his shot. Same for Weah during Bolivia. Selfishness is the problem. That being said Panama revised and executed the perfect strategy to counter Berhalter’s changes to the lineup.
