I have no idea what happened with the video quality on this one. The original file on my computer is 1080p, so I am guessing my internet provider is to blame for a faulty upload. I have had nothing but problems with Centurylink, now Brightspeed. I also have had several audio problems that I have been trying to work through. This I believe is the fault of the GoPro Hero 10 Black. I will be working through these issues, but honestly, it is almost enough problems for me to just give up.
Shite happens brother, it's no big deal! I'm just happy with a upload regardless. 👍👍 It certainly be interesting to see how much material the magnets will accumulate on the next oil change.
@@Look_What_I_Did I agree. I wouldn't have them if they weren't given to me. They are working better since I did a factory reset and didn't update the software.
@@TopperMachineLLC My disabled nephew went down that exact path. First one was given to him. Never could trust it. Got another this past Christmas and it frankly performs no better. And every update is a mine field. In my experience if you find a stable release never update it again.
That year of ownership has passed quickly, great modifications Josh. Head stock looks nice with piped lubrication, oil doing its job, allowing debris to sink to the lowest point. Thanks for sharing.
When I got mine one of the very first modifications (improvements) I made was removing the sheetmetel chuck obstruction. It felt good to chunk it into the recycle-bin.
I only keep it for the simple fact it helps contain coolant. I ran it one time with it off and had coolant all over the walls, ceiling and floor. When it comes to safety appliances, believe me, I remove them as fast as possible. This guard is actually useful.
Hi Josh. I suffered from tennis elbow in my working years,so my chiropractor told me to go to the drug store and by a forearm strap. Fully adjustable. It worked great.Guys at work were always borrowing it so I bought an extra and threw it in my locker. Happy Happy Joy Joy. I imagine you have the “STRAP”. As ever thanks for your hard work!
I do have one, but don't use it when it could get oily or coolant soaked. Basically my entire day. lol I just keep plugging away and work through it. It is getting better, but slowly. Big parts require heavy lifting.
Nice one. I added filler and drain tubes to my 1954 Yazoo mower with Wisconsin AND engine. Just like with your lathe, it saves a real mess. Thanks for the video.
Josh, the voice over actually worked okay. Not really an issue to me. Each video is just cool love the content no matter how it comes across. Keep them coming
Josh don't worry about the sound, the video was OK. In reference to the magnets, on cars in Australia the mechanics stick agents on the sump plugs over here for the engine loose floating iron if the oil filter doesn't get it first.
man that thing is nice and quiet. its cool you can still get a decent manual lathe still. i wouldn't trade in my cnc mills for bridgeport if my life depended on it but manual lathes are so useful especially in tool room and repair work
[Edit] The resolution is fixed now. 👍👍Smart addition of the hydraulic lines and fittings. Surprised it didn't have some kind of fittings from the factory. -Something is up with the resolution, I only have two resolution options to choose from 144p & 360p.-
If I remember right, UA-cam uploads the video first in standard definition and then later it uploads the higher definitions. Idk why it does that but it shouldn't take more than few hours to get the full resolution.
@@Cjarka_ this was uploaded 2 weeks ago. I remember it took nearly 8 hours to upload and processing for HD took another 10 hours. No idea other than my terrible internet provider. It's infuriating to say the least.
Great content Mr Topper. I get tennis elbow and I find the best solution is to try and avoid having your forearm in tension. I change my driving position, so I don't grip the steering wheel too tight and other things you do, that involve unconscious tension in your forearm. Even dropping you shoulders when you are using your computer mouse. You said your wife is a nurse so she will know best.
Im glade you like my idea about the magnets. at least I think you're referring to mine anyways hard to say with all the comments. But it works great in mine for years now. Love the videos keep up the great work.

You will find that "GoPro" is the source of a lot of your problems and they keep producing junk and charging top $$$ for it. I love what you're making here. Keep it coming.
Try using Blue Stop for your tennis elbow. As a retired pharmacist, I tried some on my neck and shoulder. Worked great for me and had tremendous feedback from customers. You won’t find it at the chain stores, only small independents.
Forward and reverse clutches and brakes. No wonder you selected this lathe to buy. Top feature in my estimation. My P&W 12C has forward clutch and brake. Nice as can be, but to reverse you have to re-start the motor in reverse. Good video. ---Doozer
I'm like you with electronics. The dweebs who write these programs ought to be connected to a shock device, so that everytime a glitch happens they get it good. Programs & settings will then improve so we normies can use them without failures.
I think that the idea of using a bent tube was a good one, but the vent tuve was almost the thickness of the fitting that screws into the fill hole. That is why the oil went down so slow. Two possible solutions, one, use a manual pump with a hose, insert the hose in the hole and pump in the oil. The other is more complicated and should had been done by the manufacture. They should had put two holes and two plugs. One to fill in the oil and the other for venting. Or they could had made the fill hole at least three to four times bigger. That way people could use a larger diameter hose. 🤔 Just had an idea. Is it possible to put oil back in through the same house you installed to drain it? Because if you can, again, with a hand pump (similar to the one you use at the top of barrel) you could connect a hose from the hand pump to the drain hose once you are done draining the oil, and pump new oil in through there. I don’t see why not, unless it’s a pressurized system or there is a one way valve somewhere that would prevent it. The fill hole at the top (the one you used to put the new oil in) would become a vent hole. Get what I mean? To prevent good oil from draining while you install the plug at the end of the drain hose, may be you can find a quick disconnect attachment.
I'd suggest using magnets with hooks on the back. I can foresee difficulties in removing an oil soaked smooth round strong magnet to clean it of detritus.
I feel for you man, I am not tec savvy either. Thanks for doing your best to put out the video. That oil looks good enough to put in my car. I am glad that you take good care of your investment. It is always good to see you. Be sure to say HI to Rocky for me.
Love your work don't let these small issues get you down, Is it worth getting regular oil sample testing depending on cost as it could be costing you time and oil?
Neat professional job the way it should be done. No need for apology, the voice over worked fine. I doubt you can ever remove those magnets with slippery hands. Just wipe off any fuzz you see and leave them to do their job.
My oil pump did not have a check valve on the discharge side. I added one to keep all the lines full.May not be necessary but, I know there is no delay in the lubrication.
Clever improvements,it will be a good idea if the producer or the dealer introduces these hoses as a part of the standard equipment. A question: what about the oil in the apron?
It does get cleaned out. But since it also gets pumped out onto the ways, I choose not to do it everytime. I just keep an eye on the oil level and color pumping out. About every third change is what I am seeing for requirement.
I'm still emarrased by an oil change I did 40years ago. I worked on a cat d9's hydraulic system. When the refill exceeded 200lt I0 remembered I forgot to put the drain plug back in. Why I did it without noticing the huge oil spill I still do not know.
Tendinitis? I suffer from that, but I get a steroid shot from my doctor. Also, I use an isolator band around my forearm to change tension on that tendon as well. I’d send a link but UA-cam just updated and said no links.
I usually use the band, but not when it could get oil soaked. We have a TENS machine, and I find that really helps. Basically it's electroshock therapy. I'm just getting old and falling apart. Lol
Great idea fitting the hydraulic hose to make draining the oil a lot easier and cleaner. Would it be practical to have a tap on the end of the house instead of a plug, or is there some reason not to do that?
I never liked valves because you could bump it or it could vibrate open. I have seen it happen, and cause severe engine damage on a railroad machine. It is just easier to have something reliable.
Legendary Proven Fact. The only way you can accurately determine whether your lathe is working fine is to clamp a politician's head in the chuck. According to validated statistically results the body will follow the head at 500rpm. At 2000rpm it should come off.
