I was also really confused as well with the editing for the whole back half of the episode. my wife and i actually thought for a bit it broken into a dream sequence or altered reality or something. we eventually wrote off the scattered nature of the action and through lines (and off-model marcille XD) to the back half of the episode being from izutsumi's perspective bc of she's only paying attn to the parts she cares about
I love how in the manga you can't really see the wolves face under the speech bubble so in the anime they interpreted it as "the wolf is fully cringing at laios' imitation of dog sound" they probably left out of second hand embarrassment rather then fear
I love how we see how Senshi got more accepting of magic with time. Here they use Marcile's magic circle instead of Senshi insisting on "doing it the traditional way"
I might be wrong, I wasn’t paying particular attention to the fire/heating circles in the manga or the anime, but I don’t think they use another “traditional” fire after the big fire attracts the attention of Falin/the red dragon
About marcille losing track of her staff, those panels aren't actually missing however I don't think it's done well because the shot of marcille falling happens in the background and is almost entirely obscured by laios in the foreground. I only noticed this because I knew to look for it, which makes it useless for conveying that information to an audience that hasn't already read the manga
Oh, wow, I didn't even notice and I was looking for it in my second viewing. The problem is not just that it is obscured by Laios (though that doesn't help), but that is is so far away and blurry it is impossible to tell what happened to the staff. Like, even if Laios wasn't there, I don't think anyone would be able to tell the staff got left behind. As you said, it is completely useless at conveying information if you don't already know what is happening. Thanks for pointing it out the scene is technically there though. I don't know if this make the choice better or worse, but it is interesting to know somebody took the trouble to animate it, even though it was completely useless at information conveying.
Oh that’s what happened? Wow they really dropped the ball there cause I made me tune out of the episode, it felt like I’d suddenly skipped a few minutes of scenes and got very confused.
This is probably my favorite episode so far. I love the more catgirl heavy chapters and I'm so happy to see the start of her and Chilchuck's friendship. The dad and the cat he didn't want is probably the funniest relationship dynamic.
@@Edujs23Both characters are from the eastern lands (aka Japan), Shuro being a samurai for his class and Izutsumi being a ninja for hers, is probably what OP was getting at.
The other changes were more subtle and I just assumed it was specifically to highlight Izutsumi's catlike agility with the extra smoothness but I definitely felt the misalignment on that shot of her and the ice golem where they're on different layers. Still, a nitpick in what is ultimately an incredible episode with the single funniest frame so far, *faithfully recreated* indeed.
Damn I was just looking at your "woah hey" in different languages vid, and then you drop this banger, excellent timing, now I get something to watch while eating my pizza thanks
im glad they made laios a THICK boy in the show and manga, alot of animes do this and it gets boring to see perfectly muscular, skinny and toned characters, laios is a DUNGEON ADVENTURER, not a bodybuilder so it makes alot of sense why he doesnt have 54 pack abs but still has muscular (but undefined) arms and pecs. also that boy got some tiddies on him, them things is HEFTY, gahdamn.
way too many of those character look like they need a sandwhich. I cant help but think its just a standardization to make animating them easier but i wish there was a bit of variation.
I mean, you can’t make a series about eating and not give your character some fat lol. He’s a very healthy guy and that layer of fat over muscle shows that. I love how diverse the characters’ bodies/silhouettes are in this series.
@@theliato3809 it might be because may Japanese artists are drawing upon their own experiences when designing characters. Asian folks tend to be skinner than westerners so that carries over to their art
I thinked about what happened to Marcille staff. Sad that Trigger cutout that scene, because some people were confused about this why she try to find a replacement staff.
Even in the manga I didn't make the connection tbh. Also, the anime cuts out Chilchuck supporting Laios, making it unclear as to why Marcille feels alright with going after Izutsumi
I had an another qualm with this episode, which was the end of Izutsumi's killing blow jump on the ice golem. Her landing was a bit unnaturally light and stiff. Yeah, she ain't the heaviest hitter, but that hit missed some oomph and release of tension. For an economical solution they coulda just gone with a smash cut closeup of her "charging her strike up" before another one of the arrow piercing the ice and the token.
Yeah that is also my biggest nitpick of the episode. When she lands on the golem, the animation really doesnt convey her having enough momentum to drive the arrow into the ice. It kinda looks like it just slides in.
@@maiz_kolbe5030 Yeah, that and the poor showing of what happened to Marcille with the wolf situation and her staff were the first "sloppy" instances of storyboarding and animation I've felt in the anime. It is an outsourced episode, so I hope it isn't a tell of a strained production, and the overall story is still great, but I can't lie, it has me very slightly worried.
Thank you so much for this! I was wondering why the vibes felt off during the action scenes. Turns out it was because it was a studio with a different style doing them.
well I see no one saying, but they changed the ilustration of the ending (the last one with all the party and Fallin) to add Izutsumi too!! (Made too by Kui!)
This episode felt really concise, as well as its analysis, but I guess you're saving room for the last four. The shift in style was noticeable indeed, but also how the flow changed on the second half. I guess Trigger will focus on leaving a lasting impression this end of season with the next episodes 🪙
Another banger video! Love how much extra context you provide in these videos! Even though I'm reading the manga alongside this too. Speaking of, even when i was reading the manga I didn't notice Marcille losing Ambrosia. I think its really interesting that her staff itself isn't directly important but that she could use anything to focus her spells better than with just her hands. Super loved Itzutsumi just tee-heeing the fuck off during the wolf fight. I totally agree that the unripe barometz was so much grosser in color
6:43 I also found it weird so I had to backtrack in the ep. Turns out it's in the blurry background behind Laios right after he goes down, weird choice but it's still included even if the blur and distance makes it very very easy to miss.
Your videos are super helpfull for me bc i tend to skip over this kinda details that my eye actually catches by being inmersed so much i forget someone made those details for me to notice them😂 And to help me know about all the missing pannels of the manga for more context on the why of certain scenes, like Marcille's staff missing out of nowhere in the anime. So i always apreciate your uploads on Dungeon Meshi, please keep making them ❤🙏🏻
ngl this episode felt really wonky and different to me animation-wise. but that scene of the unripe barometz being cut open was amazing, it has to be the first time i could relate to marcille's reaction to eating monsters..
Love these chapters and the food was definitely uncomfortably realistic at times (compliment). I am quite disappointed in how they portrayed Marcille rescuing Izutsumi: I really liked how she slowly shambles out of complete darkness to say to close the eyes frantically so much so that the last word is not even in a speech bubble anymore but rather a sfx... Here we have silly elf stumbles around mumbling to close the eyes before casting and it's definitely much less dramatic...
Also, isn't it like at least the third time they forgot to add the set-up but still show the pay-off? Both when Chilchuck complained about the wasting money when butchering the dragon and when reaching this floor and were surprised by the cold? Meh...
i just realised i probably don't comment enough, but maaaan, these reviews are so good! i'm literally living from episode to the analysis to the next episode this couple of months. brilliant, brilliant work!

The reason why Laios was so obsessed with seeing Izutsumi's nipples was because they took his 😢

Only realized recently, even after completing the manga, that Senshi replaces Komari and Izutsumi replaces shuro.
Who's Komari? Lol I guess that's autocorrect's fault
I dont think shuro is even close to being as Agile as Izutsumi
