  • You can grow Amla plant from seeds from fruit or frozen fruit quite easily in a pot. The Indian gooseberry seeds will germinate quickly in Spring to Summer as I have grown amla plant from fruit in Sydney, Australia. The procedure for growing gooseberries from fruit is the same for growing Indian gooseberry, star gooseberry, cape gooseberry, country gooseberry and other types of gooseberries from seeds.

    I’ve watched at least 7 or 8 videos on Amla propagation. This is the most complete and clearly explained. Thank you!

    Thank you Mr. GPH!
    I put seeds in pots one week ago after following your instructions exactly. This morning several seeds are UP! And several more peeking out of soil. No idea if I’ll get fruit but so far doing well 😄 🌱

      Fruits will grow in many many years, but growing plants from seeds is exciting. Good luck.

      Did you use seeds from frozen fruits or fresh fruits?

    • @VIpanfried
      @VIpanfried 11 місяців тому

      @@GardenTricks Neither one. Actually I’ve never eaten or even seen amla! I do consume dried Amla powder for nutritional benefit, and my friends from Kerala talk about the fruit often. I’m in the Caribbean, I should be able to grow Amla here.
      I ordered the seeds from a seed company. You could start selling seeds as well!

    Can you grow productive trees from seed or do you need to graft a cultivar on to the seed stock?

    • @GardenTricks
      @GardenTricks  10 місяців тому

      You can grow all trees from seeds. While some trees grown from seeds like Plum, Guava, some varieties of mango, Pomegranate will fruit in less than 5 years, there are some trees like Amla, mango, etc will fruit in more than 5 years, even 10 years.

      It grows to at least 6 m high and produces fruits about 7 years from planting.

      If it has become warm in night also, otherwise wait.

    Do amla grow in Tropical climate?

  • @VIpanfried
    @VIpanfried Рік тому +1

    I feel like I got something wrong.
    1. Soak for 24 hours. Check.
    2. Toss out floaters. Check.
    3. Soak seeds in 30 degree C warm water for 30 minutes before planting. Wait, what?
    At first I didn’t think about that step because I use Fahrenheit. But when it’s time to plant, I converted the 30 degrees C which is 86 degrees F. That’s colder than the air temperature today! Which is 89.
    I went ahead and planted, but now thinking Amla needs a colder climate than mine. Maybe why no one is growing Amla here. I’m in Caribbean. I had to order the seeds, which were $10 US.

      86 degree F is ideal temperature for germination, 89 degree F should also work. Problem is with seeds. Fresh seeds take less time, older seeds may or may not germinate. The seeds from market are generally very old. You have to try many times.
