This record store brings me back to a time when new music came directly out of local record shops, rather than the internet. Obviously, this is not to badmouth the ease of current global accessibility, it was just cool that bands traveled to the stores themselves and talked to the people who talked to you and other future fans.
i seen chvrches twice both time's they came to cain's ballroom in Tulsa OK, and if they ever come back it's gonna be my mission to see them again they're awesome!!
Parallel Lines. One of my favourite albums ever! Remember listening to this as a kid as we drove down through France on holiday. Instantly puts me back there, every time, nearly 40 years later.
Wow, Iain won this for me shockingly. When he revealed Black Celebration, I freaked out. Glad that wasn't shown earlier, but yeah favorite Depeche Mode album. Then he revealed Hatful of Hollow! The Smiths also one of my favs with Depeche and yes, Hatful is typically the best place to start with Smiths though I'd recommend the debut self-titled as the starter.
Why do you reckon the Smiths self titled is a better starting point than Hatful of Hollow? Hatful has so many more great tracks being that its not an actual album... and literally has more tracks on it. The tracks that are from their debut like Still Ill, Hand In Glove and Reel Around the Fountain are superior versions as well. It has well known songs like This Charming Man and How Soon is Now as well as some of their most heart wrenching like This Night Has Opened My Eyes, Girl Afraid, Back to the Old House & Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want. Its far and away a stronger more interesting and accessible batch of songs than the debut, which isnt everyones cup of tee given how dominating the punk influence still is in their sound. Tracks like Miserable Lie and Pretty Girls Make Graves are top but its not enough to match Hatful of Hollow, song for song.
@@NowhereMan7 I agree, Iain's selection wins hands down. As a Smiths' compilation, 'Louder Than Bombs' always does it for me - with the wonderful 'Stretch Out and Wait' and finishing with the haunting 'Asleep' - a masterpiece.
NIN and David Bowie was my very first concert for the downward spiral tour. Also hands down the best band I've seen live was Radiohead during the OK computer tour! Sweet picks Martin!
She probably had now but when she was young, those artists were bigger news in the USA than they were in Britain. Hence, not as influential as Debbie Harry. Eat To The Beat would be my choice though, but no-one is asking me...
... I definitely prefer all CHVRCHES stuff over their own recommendations ... hahaha ... well, maybe with Laurens collection I could go along, but the rest ... oh no ... I am really glad they are soo different ... one of my all-time favorite piece of Music: "Clearest Blue" by CHVRCHES ...
Yea, like , no women before, like Debbie Harry, like, EVER made it, like , Ever !!......Is she frikken Serious ?!!? Like, if it wasn't for those women, she would, like have never have, like made it, like !!!....... What a Jackazz comment, Like. When was this recorded, like 1950 ?!!?
Awesome that their musical tastes are so different yet they work so well together to make their own sound as a band.

I've met CHVRCHES at a record signing in 2016 and saw them live last month. Really cool people
I just noticed that the album art for OK computer has a blue and black “X” on the right side kinda like Chvrches “X” on Love Is Dead!
Yea, it definitely was their little borrow

She probably had now but when she was young, those artists were bigger news in the USA than they were in Britain. Hence, not as influential as Debbie Harry. Eat To The Beat would be my choice though, but no-one is asking me...
