Maestro Joel Navarro is most popularly known for composing and interpreting "SUWERTE-SUWERTE LANG" at the very first Metro Pop Festival of 1978 (lyrics by National Artist Rolando Tinio/ Trivia: the song was originally composed with Maestro Navarro's English lyrics and did not have anything to do at all with either "ulan" and "swerte", "aliw lang malaman ito" straight from the composer's narrative last night).
Singing Maestro's song "Manalig Ka" (with lyrics by Kuyang Maestro Arnel De Pano - wala pong bridge Kuyang sorry) and straight from my laryngologist's appointment with churchmate/Kuya/Kumpare, Dr. Frank Ang, (and thanking GOD because my vocal cords were not affected from my last stint but had to take fluimicil and rest).
It was unforgettable for all of us that gathered together to celebrate "Hanggang Langit's" victory at the 45th Catholic Mass Media Awards. The gathering was hosted by "Hanggang Langit" lyricist, Kuya Jerry Uy, at his posh home in Antipolo and was attended by composer, Maestro Joel Navarro, his wife - Dr. Amy Navarro, GRMilestone Records Exec. Producer Sir Arnold Santiago, and a fellowship of some sort with new friends, basically churchmates of Kuya Gerry's who also helped out preparing/cookng the food that we partook (Anjo, Tita Malou and Tito Ronnie, Allen and Gina). I also met Eulita Ramientos Chua, a "Kababata" from way back when in Mandaluyong and my sister's classmate in elementary. Thank you everyone for making yesterday night a special one. Thank you Kuya Jerry for the sumptuous and scrumptious dinner. Thank you so much Doc Ronnah Ong for filming, never mind the flats and woahssss (hahah! ) "I am my own worst critic" is an understatement...I stopped tallying marks at one point. haha! KEBS! na lang. Sa DIOS ang lahaaaat ng papuri!
"Manalig Ka" was a finalist at the 8th Metro Manila Popular Music Festival, originally recorded by awesome musical theater performer and Student Canteener, Mr. Dio Marco.
