Weird Update: this project is now on HBO MAX (not sponsored) so not only does the different format make no sense, but I will say things like 'gee, I hope this gets released for streaming' or something...disregard that part, and I hope you still enjoy the review!

My take from The Lighthouse scene, when Lila tries to drown, is that she tries, but then she remembers her baby (she touches her baby bump) and decides to live for them. Although she doen't know their future yet or if they will be a boy or a girl, she can't kill them because she loves them.

honestly that part made me tear up, as a mother, how about to have my second child, I can remember so many times even with my first pregnancy how hard life was, the depression, the anxiety, people treating you differently, etc… There would be so many moments I completely would forget that I had another being inside my body, times when I would want to harm myself, just end it all, and then I would get that kick, a literal kick from my son, and I would break down into tears, knowing how close I was about to be to ending myself, which would also be ending not just my life but a whole other life that hasnt even gotten an actual chance yet, I would break down crying. It’s terrifying, knowing how close I could’ve been to never getting to meet my baby because I wanted to give up on my own self, and I completely understood how Lila felt in that moment. That scene just hit so hard, because it’s not talked about enough the pain a pregnant mother goes through, and that sometimes it’s easy to forget we aren’t just living for our own selves anymore. That was a really powerful and heart wrenching scene honestly, a little triggering, but it was still beautifully tragic and raw representation of the beginnings of motherhood nonetheless.

I saw this on the day it dropped in theaters, and it *was* pretty cool to watch in IMAX. The ending almost had me in tears - I now have a little girl (seven months old this weekend), and the idea of being hauled away from her right after she was born was horrific.
If I ever meet Halsey, I'd love to pick their brain about Lila's backstory - they've said the film is pretty heavily allegorical, but I do wonder how Lila ended up where she was - I figure she wouldn't have married the king in the first place if she hadn't at least partially cared for him once.
After the movie, I was chatting with some other folks who had been watching, and we were pretty sure that the old woman in the funeral scene (1121 is the song there) is likely the late king's mother, and Lila rolling up her sleeve and showing the bruise is a way to say "Don't kid yourself, you raised a monster. Look what he did to me."

Omfg I haven’t had a place to say this, but seeing this whole film on the big screen was insane in the best way…it was so incredibly beautiful and when I tell y’all that the guillotine scene going INTO Darling and then BACK INTO the execution absolutely killed me. My jaw was dropped and tears were leaking from my eyes for the whole rest of the film…absolutely beautiful

The way I took the movie is that Lilith is representing the raw motherhood, not just the beautiful parts but also the feelings of anger and frustration and the ,,ugly" parts to it. Like that motherhood holds so much power in it that it can turn scary af. And that figure is going to survive and watch over the child. Because it's something so old and almost god like that you can't just turn it off. But that's just my take. I like that you noticed the costumes, I think they create such a big part of the story...

She was actually pregnant when the movie was filmed. It's even more impressive when you realize that. I think she was 25 weeks so the later bump was a prosthetic. She had not given birth when she did the birth scene.

thank you for your thoughts and observations... i was far too preoccupied with the costuming and staging when i saw it in theaters to actually think about what was going on :)

I know this video is a few months old, but since we don’t see the baby, maybe that clip before she was killed is what’s going to be in the afterlife between Lila & her child since the baby might have been killed as well.

I'd love a follow up talking about the music as well!! Loved hearing your thoughts on the film, when I saw it at the cinema I was a bit overwhelmed so it was mainly vibes not thoughts, and hearing you break it down was so interesting :)

i noticed in a few scenes that she matched up their lyrics to specific shots, like the lilith hands touching her stomach in the mirror while halsey sings “i’ve been corrupted”, the pan out to the castle tower while they’re singing the lighthouse, etc.

gonna expand on the movie thing by saying that it feels more like collective music videos with a narrative running through them AND give a content warning for things like bugs, scorpions, fire and high water (drowning)!! be safe out there besties :)

I don't know if someone has said it before, but it would be so cool to do a trying to stan vocaloid!! Vocaloid is really really big so it's impossible to get to all of them, but there are many very popular songs that're still worth watching. These songs can have such a deep meaning in them that would be amazing to see you dissect it.
    Some of those songs are:
    - Rolling girl
    - Lost one's weeping
    - This Fucked-Up Wonderful World Exists For Me
    - Tokyo Teddy Bear
    - The disappearance of Hatsume Miku
(I want to add a bonus, Love is War but that's probably too many songs at this point...)
I've been wanting this one for a while but was a bit scared about posting it, but I just love how you talk about songs's meanings that I just had to comment it

For the past like 3 months I haven't been getting notis on TTS and the bell is clicked so I'm a little upset....
    So tonight we STAB!
Stan...not stab. (With breaks) sorry, I got a new phone & it doesn't have all my cool internet lingo memorized yet.
If you get spammed with comments I apologize I'm planning on catching up while I work tonight.
This film was beautifully produced, and as someone who has lost a spouse and fell into a psychosis because of it... that whole symbolism of possession & then that line "am I not allowed to grieve in my own way?" really got me.
