Yes Steve, the price of chocolate is going through the roof! Last week in comments, you agreed with me about the high price of pizzas now days--currently the price of See's chocolate candy (one of our local California specialties) is $32.00 per pound!!! When prices reach a certain level, I can't justify buying that product anymore.
Steve, just an FYI, the shelf tag of $11.36 refers to the 18 eggs per carton above the tag, and that area was empty. The price per egg is 63.1 cents per egg, as noted on the tag for 18. The same green carton below was $7.42 per carton of 12, which is about 61.8 per egg. So, most folks purchased the 18 eggs per carton, which is just over a penny more. Eggs are a good source of protein for families. Whenever I see the best buy date arriving on the carton in my frig, I make egg salad (which I add to a salad or sandwich) or a veggie frittata! You also have to watch out for how a company labels their eggs (cage-free, free-range, pasture-fed, organic, nonorganic, etc.) But that's another story.
Eggs are high right now in parts of the U.S. because of the Avian Flu outbreak. Some suppliers are having problems. Normally a dozen eggs is between $2.50 and $3.00 for regular eggs. But at some of the stores I go they are up to $9.00+ right now. However some places have kept their prices down because their suppliers haven't been effected and the store hasn't resorted to gouging. Trader Joe's normally sells their regular dozen for $2.99 but are up to $3.49 today. That is the price they normally sell their Jumbo regular eggs, which they did not have at all today. So at those prices they have been running out during the day. I went first thing this morning to get some and they had plenty at the time.
Good to see you and Jim out together. Like you guys, i don't buy a lot of the expensive food items..lucky us! And, true, many non food items sneak in the cart that add up fast...TP, paper towels, over the counter meds, cleaners, dog treats, etc. But we use those things, too!! Let's face it...we can't win when it comes to the grocery bill...but we can do our best shopping sales and comparing prices! Hey..do you and Jim buy brand names or sometimes store brands at a savings??😂 Waving!
Hi 👋 Steve and Jim. I want to get a dozen eggs 🥚 on Saturday. I hope I don't have to morage the house 😂 I think you should buy brand name Raisin Bran. And see if there are still 2 scoops of Raisins in the package. And how big those scoops are. 😆 🤣 😂 😹
yeah its pretty expensive now days, Eggs around here are thru the roof as far as price goes. Always Good to see Jim. God Bless you guys and take care. 😊
Ours is about 80 to 100 a week depending on work schedules meal planning I think it all depends on what you need each week non food items TP and paper towels etc
I haven't gone yet!! Waiting on my daughter to come over and help. It's hard on one leg!!😉 I prefer Dunkin over Starbucks any day!! Their prices are outrageous!!! Happy Wednesday to you both🥰
Good morning Steve and Jim ✋🖐️ Steve my expenses are buying Coffee and Tea. It's a habit I acquired living in Europe where my dad was serving as a Marine. My dad would allow me to taste his coffee and tea and became hooked 😂
When it comes to eggs, i’m a lot like Jim. I will buy pre-hard boiled eggs. I also buy the liquid eggs in a carton. We don’t really cook with eggs, a whole lot and it just seems easier for me to buy my eggs that way. I didn’t know that they had instant decaf. I need to definitely take a look at that. I don’t drink coffee much, but when I do, it’s decaffeinated. Thanks for the tips and I hope you guys have a great rest of the week!
Yes, I think the instant decaf is one of the best deals in the store, although someone said they used to be half that price about a year ago lol! So even that’s gone up! 😳😲😩
Read and match the shelf labels carefully - the price is on the shelf the item is sitting on and not on the shelf above it - also match the label descriptions. Looking at the shelf label in the second view of the egg shelves (not the one where you pulled the carton), it was $12 for 18, not a dozen. This is similar to what I just paid for eggs at Aldi in your area - just over $7/dozen (visiting in Desert Hot Springs).
Thank you for another enlightening video or things here are slowly going up but like I said I go to Dollar General and the Amish store a dozen of jumbo eggs at my Amish store was $4 the last time I bought them and those are her chickens
Yippee, found cage free eggs 2.99 a dozen so will be eating eggs again. Great deal! I don’t get into stores much but was with my granddaughter. Always interesting to hear what others pay for groceries. I live alone and don’t eat a lot and eat simply so groceries not a big part of my budget. Fun to see your prices. I have never had a Starbucks! Not a coffee drinker, just cheap tea. If you only count actual food, sometimes groceries are not as expensive as it sounds. But things like cat food, litter, paper towels, cleaning supplies all cost a lot to.
Our breakfast coffee is decaf Gevalia. It’s an indulgence. Eggs is another breakfast food, which has gone to $4.59 a dozen. You guys save a lot not buying meat.
Hello and have a great day! Hopefully prices will come down soon! But I only buy what I need. And my kitty food and items for her, she’s very spoiled! 🛒🛍️🐾🐾❤️
Not to be a naysayer, but those egg prices were for 18 count eggs. Here in Wisconsin, they are about $5 at Kwik Trip and $5.25 at Dollar General. Coffee prices are high, but I buy when it's on sale and buy a few. Also, look for markdown areas. Most stores have them, and you can get some good deals. I use meat as a "flavor enhancer", adding a cup or so to a casserole or soup. I very seldom eat meat as a main course, unless it's a burger, or I get single boneless pork chops at Kwik Trip for .99 each, when they have a sale.
Good morning Steve and Jim! We live in D.C. and prices here are pretty high, too. Our local grocery store usually sets aside a few 1 lb hamburger meat at $5 each which helps. We also enjoy the same small Folgers pkg you bought. I like eggs but oatmeal for breakfast is cheaper, probably better for us too. Have a great day always enjoy your videos!
Things are just so high right now. But I'm guilty of buying a lot of stuff I shouldn't. I'm disabled and I figure I can't get out much and do the outside things I used to. So, I buy the things I like to eat. Thanks for doing this story. You and Jim take care.
FYI I went grocery shopping yesterday and since the presidential inauguration prices seem to be down a little. I wonder if this will continue? Also the shelves were all very full... I haven't seen that for a while.
Let us know in about a month. My guess is by the end of the year everything will probably double in price, but like I said before, I hope I am wrong! Tariffs really go into a fact, those are just taxes that Americans pay. The foreign countries don’t pay the tariffs. There is nothing we can do about it except wait and watch and say a little prayer maybe lol! 🙏🤞😄
Coffee use to be 6$ for Walmart brand and eggs are now 7$ and even coffee filters went up 3$ that's so crazy even lightbulbs gone up like 9$ for a big pack I wish eggs were cheaper and even creamer 4$ wow
One thing I can tell you for sure. When I started working after high school it was at Target in 1999. A regular candy bar like a snickers was .44 Now, it is close to 1.89 I think( I don't work at Target anymore) but in 26 years that's how much a candy bar has gone up.
Good morning Steve and Jim not to bad I thought $5.00 for a dozen of eggs was bad I wouldn't be eating them at that price if they go up anymore here we won't be buying them you and Jim both take care have a wonderful day
Hi Steve and,Jim,I,live in Melbourne Australia eggs I purchased 3 days ago from the chook farm which is local we’re $7.00 a dozen, you can see the wandering said chooks running around free, I might buy eggs every six weeks so it’s not a biggy, groceries on the other hand are just so expensive and I’ve noticed that many item like my biscuits I love are in smaller packets but cost a little bit more, they must think we are stupid, take care
Hi guys! I am stunned by the prices of meat and eggs there! I guess I shouldn’t complain about egg prices here! A dozen eggs is just a little bit over four dollars.
I think Palm Springs is inflated because it is snowbird season. Eggs in southern Calif near the coast are at around $6.00 when purchased in a dozen box. Cheaper in bulk.
Hi steve and jim live in md and if i need about everything my grocerys are almost 300 dollars or more if i dont need meats it a little over 200 very high hear
Grocery prices are high here in Australia too, I try to buy items that are on special or half the price of the recommended retail price, I do find that my grocery bill is higher if I have to buy toiletries or cleaning products, and medicines.
Hey Jim. It’s nice to see you. I was wondering what you look like. You two are a handsome pair. I prioritize coffee. I always buy Starbucks beans and have them ‘professionally’ ground at the Starbucks store. That lasts me a month. Are you getting enough protein? I had a big cancer surgery 10 weeks ago. And I had a hard time healing. I had to have daily visits from a wound ca Re nurse. It took eight weeks. I had to start drinking protein shakes. (40 grams protein each) What do you eat for protein? You both look great and healthy. The
Thanks for sharing with us Jane. Sorry you had to go through that. I hope you are OK now. Beans and a lot of other vegetables have a lot of protein. I also still drink nonfat milk and a small amount of cheese which also has protein. I should definitely look into that though. Thanks for the reminder. 😄👍
I go about every 10 days and spend maybe about $75-$80. I alternate certain items that I use. I usually buy milk, eggs, and keto bread. Prices have gone up a little, but not much. I'm waiting for them to start really going up soon. I have stocked up on a few things.😊
A significant part of my grocery budget is consumed by non-food items - things like laundry detergent, trash bags, TP. I never see you buy those things. How do you account for those things?
Yes, I include those things too. I will show them next time. I’ve never really paid attention to the prices on those, but I’m guessing they’ve gone up a lot too. 🤪
A tall cup of plain old coffee at Starbucks in store in Oakland is $2.95 (& refills are free with the frequent flier card. If you buy a bag of beans & have them grind it for your home pour over coffee it works out to 40-50¢ a cup. But 25¢ a cup is very good. Last week a dozen organic pasture raised eggs were $6.99 at Trader Joe’s (& they were limiting them to one carton per customer).
@ one of my low income friends couldn’t afford to go out to eat very often. However, can afford to go out for a simple coffee when we want to meet up. It’s when you start adding sweet sauces & espresso shots that coffee becomes very pricey.
One of the pieces of advice I give young people is to never start drinking coffee if they haven't already started drinking it. I'm a coffee drinker BTW.
@steveinpalmspringsca well I was just at Smart and Final and their eggs were $10 for a dozen, my last eggs I bought a few weeks ago were $4 to$5 a dozen. My daughter is telling me that with the egg problems , they are buying from smaller egg farmers and their more money
I had no idea. $7.42 per dozen? I purchased eggs from a more expensive store frequented by foreigners today and had them (and other items) delivered. Dozen here is $1.76. If we get 'em at the regular Cambodian market, a dozen would be $1.56. Not sure how people do it in the US. Lucky to live Cambodia!
Eggs have run up again, but we eat eggs constantly so we buy Sam's Club box of 60. Right now averages out to $3.20 a dozen. Another strange fact. The cost of eggs is higher than the cost of chicken! You can get family packs of drum sticks, breasts, or thighs for a lot less than eggs generally cost. Crazy.
Beans, lentils and many other veggies have lots of protein I also drink non-fat milk and small amounts of low-fat cheese, so I get lots of protein without meat.
I don't think Starbucks is that expensive. Almost $1 an egg is ridiculous. I did go to Target in my part of the world this weekend (San Fernando Valley). They did have a two pack of hard boiled eggs for $1.59. Cheaper than your raw eggs.
In California they don't tax food (unless it's prepared like a sushi item or pre-roasted chicken, etc). That being said, California absolutely sticks it to you on everything else. Gas tax is ridiculous.
A view from the UK. Haven't posted for while, how are you and JIm fairing?, good i hope. Just thought you might like to know what a couple of items you zoom in on cost here in the UK. The Starbucks Expresso ground coffee here for the same weight is $0.59/oz compared to yours at $0.69/oz. had to do it /oz as we here don't have the same size bags. (Deliberate marketing tactic). Gotta tell ya, those M&Ms at $4.92 for 235gms, here they are $3.39 for 220gms. You show a dozen eggs for $11.36, is that right??? or am i seeing things? 12 Large organic, free range eggs here are $5.80. Exchange rate i used was £1=$1.23 or $1=£0.81. Is food transportation costs a problem in the USA? I've relooked at the video and realised you were showing the wrong label for 12eggs. That label was for the shelf above steve so forget my egg price comparison. Just to cheer you up, here in the UK the temp is between 32f and 38f outside with rain, overcast and windy. Yup, me and Lindy have our thermal underwear on and the electric blanket's working overtime. What's been the local reaction to Trump getting elected down there in Palm Springs?
Thanks for sharing all of that with us Robert. I’m surprised that your prices seem to be lower than ours. Palm Springs is pretty much like the rest of the country. Half the city is elated and the other half is devastated.
@@steveinpalmspringsca Thanks for coming back Stevie. Anne Reid sends her love....i'm sure you remember? Just to keep you informed, the retail food industry here in the UK are playing games with the buying public by reducing the weight of their product but charging the same price. Is this the same over there? We here have the 4 seasons, you guys are big enough not to suffer this. WE have seasonal food, YOU have universal food all year round. California is the biggest supplier of tomatoes and tomato paste in the world. Florida is a very big supplier of oranges etc. So, tell us readers, why there is a price swing on basic foodstuffs, is it all down to imports?
Well, I'm sorry yto report that eggs here were $5.00 a dozen last week and $8.00 a dozen this week. I just don't understand rstand why certain items are increasing so much and so quickly? Their must be some very rich hens ou there, lol❤❤ like ve to you and Jim😊
Last week I bought eggs at Walmart and I paid $7.50 for a dozen. That is the most I have ever paid for eggs and honestly, I don't think I will pay more. I'll just walk right by them.
That’s cheap these days. I bet it’s twice that here in Palm Springs. I remember going into a coffee shop here in Palm Springs 10 years ago and it was seven dollars for a couple black coffee with nothing else in it. 😳😲
I know kids that go daily. They also just opened a couple Dutch Bros here and the line is non-stop. It is true, if you want to develop a decent retirement nest egg, cut out the Starbucks while you are young.
I thought Cali had farmers markets all year yet you shop at at Walmart and pay "retail prices". My family of two survives on a budget of $ 300 a month. We save by going to Aldi's and other local stores and only shop deals and use coupons. In the summer we grow our vegetables and can them.
The funny thing is, here in Southern California farmers markets are usually double or triple the price of grocery stores. The farmers markets here really seem to be just for the super rich in my experience. 😳😲😩
Oh gosh, I've been vegan most of my life, and everyone would say that it is so expensive to eat that diet... but now I think being a meat eater is the more expensive diet..
When I saw Trump, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Ellison and Musk on stage together for the inauguration, I just knew that there is a bunch of guys that must feel the pain when grocery shopping, and could really help bring the price of a dozen eggs down. Im sure they all know times are tough.
I live in Bishop, CA and have for 20 plus years. The prices here are insane and have been even before all the inflation. I just paid slightly less that $12.00 for a dozen Large eggs. Welcoming illegals, giving them more help than they do their own legal residents is not right. If I could afford to get out of here and out of California I would be gone tomorrow. Sanctuary cities should be illegal!
I go through Bishop enroute to Idaho. I like Schat's Bakery. The high cost of eggs is due to bird flu. I paid $3.20 a dozen at Sam's Club purchased in bulk in southern California.
So you're going there? He had nothing to do with the FDA ordering farmers to kill thousands of their chickens because of the bird flew. So next time if 3 Americans die we'll just ignore the order and not take precautions.
Your evaluation suck! To compare price you need to purchase the same article! But again you are americans! I understand that comprehending the situation requires intelligence.

Thanks for sharing those price details! Coffee is a lot cheaper than I thought!
@ one of my low income friends couldn’t afford to go out to eat very often. However, can afford to go out for a simple coffee when we want to meet up. It’s when you start adding sweet sauces & espresso shots that coffee becomes very pricey.
Hey Jim👋👋👋
Hi Steve, my mistake is, when I go shopping hungry 😮😂
Oh no!
In an interview with Jamie Diamon with regards to tariffs and inflation his reply was "Get over it". There you go.
Yep!
So just curious, what do you eat if not beef?
Mostly vegetables. You can get a lot of protein and beans and other vegetables. Also, some pasta.
@steveinpalmspringsca thank you.
Good morning ‼️🤍
Good morning to you too! 😄
One of the pieces of advice I give young people is to never start drinking coffee if they haven't already started drinking it. I'm a coffee drinker BTW.
Good advice Biarritz! 😄👍
I'm pro coffee, better that taking psych meds. Coffee and physical activity...will elevate your mind.
I just bought a dozen large eggs for about $4 in NorCal Walmart
Well, that’s cheap! 👍
@steveinpalmspringsca well I was just at Smart and Final and their eggs were $10 for a dozen, my last eggs I bought a few weeks ago were $4 to$5 a dozen. My daughter is telling me that with the egg problems , they are buying from smaller egg farmers and their more money
Up here (Canada) a dozen eggs cost $4.09, 18 eggs are $6. A while back you could buy 3 dozen for $5.
That is a steal compared to here! 👍
And I thought my eggs from Aldi, here in the UK, were pricey at £2.79 ($3.46) per dozen!
That is amazing! I hope they stay cheap for you there, we are paying crazy prices! 🙏🤞😄👍
Crazy.
Lol that is funny and crazy. 🤪 glad you found a solution for your eggs though. 😄👍
Eggs are in short supply here because of bird flu precautions. $9 AU for a dozen at supermarket🥴
If you don't eat eggs or meat, how do you get protein in your diet?
Beans, lentils and many other veggies have lots of protein I also drink non-fat milk and small amounts of low-fat cheese, so I get lots of protein without meat.
I don't think Starbucks is that expensive. Almost $1 an egg is ridiculous. I did go to Target in my part of the world this weekend (San Fernando Valley). They did have a two pack of hard boiled eggs for $1.59. Cheaper than your raw eggs.
Especially when I just bought eggs in Texas for a 1.97 😅
steve i notice the sales tax explain why is so cheap for $80.00 80.00 here would be almost 5.25
2 dollars more for my coffee at the Walmart there on Ramon.
😲
11 dollars for eggs that is very expensive
And a year from now, we will probably look back and think how cheap everything was! 😩
The reason chocolate is so expensive is because cocoa is in such high demand and there's not enough supply.
Or at least that’s what they say. 😂
I live in the same desert area. 1doz eggs, not large, just regular. $13.99
😲😩
Well, I'm sorry yto report that eggs here were $5.00 a dozen last week and $8.00 a dozen this week. I just don't understand rstand why certain items are increasing so much and so quickly? Their must be some very rich hens ou there, lol❤❤ like ve to you and Jim😊
check out a farmers market on eggs
☃️❄️
Last week I bought eggs at Walmart and I paid $7.50 for a dozen. That is the most I have ever paid for eggs and honestly, I don't think I will pay more. I'll just walk right by them.
Starbucks is about $6-7!
Large coffee with cream at Starbucks NJ $3.75 its worth it, best flavor and most caffeine. 😊
@gingin1050 $3.75 x 5/days per week x 50 weeks = $937.50 a year.
No thanks. My home brew works fine.
Life in The People's Republic of California.
🤪
Bought eggs at Costco last week for 6.99 for 24.
Wow that's a good price! 😄👍
Oh gosh, I've been vegan most of my life, and everyone would say that it is so expensive to eat that diet... but now I think being a meat eater is the more expensive diet..
I think you are right. "White" meat, chicken and pork are reasonably priced, but my favorite, steaks, are ridiculous.
That’s a good point Elizabeth. 😲👍
But,,,
Eggs taste better in Palm Springs 😂
Yes, everything is better in Palm Springs lol! 😂👍
maybe go back and look at your video at the m & m"s
When I saw Trump, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Ellison and Musk on stage together for the inauguration, I just knew that there is a bunch of guys that must feel the pain when grocery shopping, and could really help bring the price of a dozen eggs down. Im sure they all know times are tough.
😂
I live in Bishop, CA and have for 20 plus years. The prices here are insane and have been even before all the inflation. I just paid slightly less that $12.00 for a dozen Large eggs. Welcoming illegals, giving them more help than they do their own legal residents is not right. If I could afford to get out of here and out of California I would be gone tomorrow. Sanctuary cities should be illegal!
???
I go through Bishop enroute to Idaho. I like Schat's Bakery. The high cost of eggs is due to bird flu. I paid $3.20 a dozen at Sam's Club purchased in bulk in southern California.
On Earth Peace, Goodwill towards all People.
Day three of the Trump regime. Are your eggs prices cheaper?
😂
So you're going there? He had nothing to do with the FDA ordering farmers to kill thousands of their chickens because of the bird flew. So next time if 3 Americans die we'll just ignore the order and not take precautions.
Your evaluation suck! To compare price you need to purchase the same article! But again you are americans! I understand that comprehending the situation requires intelligence.
Lol what a nice person you must be! 😲😂
