Hema has some catching up to do with real martial arts, good thinking. You should absolutely plan to land on the 4th or 5th. You should study boxing leads and openings. Feint, attack, expect the counter, take an angle, then combo.
100% agree. Especially on the "take an angle" concept, totally underrated or at least undisclosed in HEMA so far. I do find that longer combos tend to leave you in the danger-zone, but the more experienced you get I guess the easier it is to deal with it
