The point about "people thinking water making people sick and thats why "they" dident take a bath often" isent true. It would when it came to drinking it, but not taking a bath. Sure people dident know what made them sick, they just knew drinking stright up water made them sick, thats why people prefered to drink ale, beer and wine, often tho with extremely low alcohol content. as the alcohol kills of most of the bacterias. Tho when it came to bathing that dosen't hold true. As water dosent HAVE to be clean/purified to get rid of dirt and make you smell less as a glorified cadaver. Its atleast believed that in cristianised Europe, the churce considered bathing as a sign of vanity and was severly frown upon as vanity is a sin. Also taking a bath was a rather big undertaking if you dident live near a lake. or a relativly clean river. (As an example London's sewage pipes all ran in to the Thames, making it literarly run brown with fecal matter. You would NOT want to take a bath in any wather down stream from london back in the day.) So taking a bath was werry often a luxery thing to do. Sure pretty mutch any one with a bucket and a well could rinse them selfe. but to really get clean, that was not an common thing untill waaaaaay later in history.
