This film captures the essence of Stan & Ollie, and what makes us love them, better than any other. When their lives are put in danger and they barely manage to escape, they could easily keep running to save themselves. But they don’t. They risk their lives all over again by going back to do the right thing, fix their mistake, and save a woman they only just met from a horrible life. They obviously are clumsy buffoons, but they are also *good people* at their core.
Not sure of that, I think that all of their films were equally awesome. Clean, moral, and downright funny. In this weird world we are in, it is great to have a source of humor and entertainment that is thoroughly moralistic and relaxing.
I wish so much that the whole world would have a chance to see Way Out West right now...Many good laffs shorten time for fighting...in my opinion they are national heroes
I think is one of their best films. It hits all their comedic strengths brilliantly. The world was a better place with these angels walking among us. I hope they are in Heaven.
Yes! My precious grandparents used to sing that song when they were still around, and all of us children loved it and tried to sing along with them! " In the...Blue ridge mountains of Virginia..."
The hitchhiking scene, at 10:00, was a takeoff on It Happened One Night, a movie which was from around that time. The idea that Stan could bring a stage coach to a halt by showing his leg. Hilarious! 😂
This is my favorite Laurel & Hardy movie! It’s so nice to see it here. My Dad loved them. He’s how I first learned of Laurel & Hardy when I was a kid. We used to stay up late and watch his VHS copy of ‘Way Out West’ in his little apartment in Los Angeles. This film seemed to get funnier every time we watched it and it’s still hilarious to me now. Some of my favorite childhood memories with my father are of us watching this movie and seeing my Dad crack-up! I lost him to cancer in 08’, so this movie holds even more sentimental value to me as the years pass… I never got to know Stan Laurel or Oliver Hardy. They both passed away before I was born but my Great Grandma owned a beach house in Santa Monica that was walking distance to Stan Laurel’s apartment. The apartment building is still there today. When my heart gets heavy and the weight of the world is too much to bear, I escape to movies like this. They transport me back to a happier time. Thank you so much for sharing this here! RIP Stan and Oliver “Babe”. I hope my Dad finally got to meet you up there in Heaven. 🌹
I agree, that look just makes the scene funnier then one would think. Not too many comedy teams are as good or have been as good as Mr. Laurel, and Mr. Hardy.
@TuckFwitter, I made that same comment some time ago, I am a big Gilligan's Island fan. Alan Hale did a great interview I had read on the show and cast, and that comment seemed to stick with me.
Wonderful entertainment. Plus it has a couple of great musical interludes with The Boys that don't feel unnecessary. Love this film. If I need to introduce anyone to L&H it's usually this one or The Music Box or Sons of the Desert.
I use Sons Of the Desert, County Hospital, or one Our Relations where they find relatives who look identical to Stan and Ollie. this one I have only seen a few times.
@@caseysmith544 Our Relations is enjoyable. However to be frank I need to watch it again because I am recalling not being wowed by it even though it looks wonderful as a film in general. Now that I am thinking about these comedy films, it occurs to me that the studios back then had the right idea about comedy features, keeping them around an hour. It's a very good running time, be it a W.C. Fields movie or whatever.
Yes, it was their favorite. It was also the favorite of Stan’s daughter Lois and Oliver’s widow Lucille. Understandably so … it’s an unquestionable masterpiece. Needs to be added to the National Film Registry ASAP.
So this is the film they considered their favorite even though I do think this is a great movie. Sound of the desert is slightly better. It’s still a great movie
This and the piano would air on new Year's Eve and Christmas.. My parents let me stay up late on new years to watch them...i was 10 .. they should air these again somehow.. on TV. A special now and then..
I had never seen this movie strangely though I had like several sets of their movies. I love when they dance and sing. My god his head in a bucket, the mule, the guy tied to a chandelier…. Such gems and such gentle souls.
Interestingly & historically entertaining -!!!😉. I don't remember the baked headed bar tenders name. Be he really enhanced the boy's performance. A classic example of hilarity . " now that you own the mine " You'll make a wonderful gold digger ".😱. Time well spent viewing this classical movie 🎥. From the privacy of my computer room along the " Space Coast " of Florida 🐊🐊🐊-!!! Wishing all viewers a safe/healthy/prosperous 2024.
This is classic Laurel and Hardy slapstick comedy at it's best they just fed off each others comedic timing they where also great in the classic Babes in toy land.
36:00 the petite actress struggles to keep a straight face in every scene she's in but you can especially see her trying her darnedest not to laugh during her fight with Stan 😹
Oliver Hardy has such a great singing voice at 29:00. When Hardy eats his hat, or tries to, in the next scene he has a brand-new hat. Now, how did that happen?
I just thought of something after all these years. Stan moves Ollie up the rope but then Ollie moves the mule? I would think that mule weighs at least as much as Stan.
I just realized if Laurel and Hardy were alive in modern times but still kept the same occupation as entertainers/comedy duo but also posted their skits on a UA-cam channel. Ollie or Stan would probably say at the end of their videos, “Ladies and gentlemen, thank you so much for watching! We certainly hoped you had some laughs as much as we did. If you want to see some more of our little fun, please make sure to subscribe to our UA-cam channel. Ta ta for now!”

The dance scene between the two of them is by far the best ever filmed.!!!!
I agree 💯❤️
They make Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers look like CHUMPS!!

Yes!!😂❤
This is the greatest Laurel and Hardy film ever made!!
Agreed. It is one of those rare films that can accurately be described as flawless.
My college film professor told us that this was the best laurel and hardy film! 3:53
Not sure of that, I think that all of their films were equally awesome. Clean, moral, and downright funny. In this weird world we are in, it is great to have a source of humor and entertainment that is thoroughly moralistic and relaxing.
It's my favorite of their full-length films.
Sons of the Desert is also top tier

One of my favourite films, Laurel and Hardy Rule the screen 🎬🎥😃
After close to 100 years in production. I finally got to view it -!!! 😉
I love Ollie's singing voice! And I dedicate Trail of the Lonesome Pine to my grandad in heaven ❤ this song reminds me so much of you always
Yes! My precious grandparents used to sing that song when they were still around, and all of us children loved it and tried to sing along with them! " In the...Blue ridge mountains of Virginia..."
Oliver was a trained singer in his youth
That cute LITTLE mule done stole the show !
One of the best performances ever from Laurel and Hardy
Yes!!! I love this one!! I had an old VHS tape of this as a kid that I wore out playing over and over.
Colorized One?
I Still Have VHS One in Colorized.
I believe this to be L&H's best feature film, as well as the best western comedy of all time! An absolute delight!
"Is it true that he's dead?"
"Well we hope he is. They buried him." 😂😂😂
They could sing, dance, act, take slapstick falls, etc. Real talent.
The hitchhiking scene, at 10:00, was a takeoff on It Happened One Night, a movie which was from around that time. The idea that Stan could bring a stage coach to a halt by showing his leg. Hilarious! 😂
Always puts a smile in my face 😂😂😂
Fun scenes, and they actually pull it off! Great Ole time music!
Thank you!! I love L&H 😆 🙌
You're welcome!
When they hid in the piano 🎹😂 Had to watch the last 5 minutes or so again!
I loved and love Laurel and Hardy- anytime- so fun and happy to see anytime❤😊

I think it's funny when Ollie looks at the camera when Stanley is doing something stupid.
Alen Hale used that move and said he learned it from Mr. Hardy
I agree, that look just makes the scene funnier then one would think. Not too many comedy teams are as good or have been as good as Mr. Laurel, and Mr. Hardy.

@stevenrussell5340 the best I would venture to say.
Me too! Followed by "mm..mm..mmmm!"
Oh my goodness I was laughing like crazy when Hardy slaps Laurel's hand with the rope🤣🤣.

I've been on a big L&H kick lately, watching all the movies and shorts I can, and I think this is the best one so far. Hits all the notes perfectly.

I dreamed this movie into being. The dance sequence is DIVINE
WOW!!! I Watched The Whole Show, merci. * Thanks for the Laughs.
Loved this movie growing up! So many memories and to this day it never fails to put a smile on my face! ☺
His laugh was and still is contagious 😂😅
These guys were so much fun to hang out with.
This is one of the best slapstick comedy feature films from the 1930s
This really shows what a great comedian, Jim Finlayson was
31:49 The fact that Ollie didn’t realize that was the real Mary Roberts right away😂
I would love to see the kids today do a dance exactly like Laurel and Hardy did today from this video! I would really enjoy it!

So cute
Who can blame her?
This movie gave James Finlayson the best role that he ever got in a laurel and Hardy film
A movie like this can be under 2 categories, Early B-Western or Golden Era Comedy.
Finlayson was such a pro.
Ollie's fourth-wall breaks will never get old!
My Dad loved this film too
THEY WERE JUST THE BEST.......
This film brings me great happiness
Chill Wills delivers the yodeling.
Towed in a hoe.
He also provides Stans vocals for a song
@@Nick-ty9us : i didn't know that!
@@castercamber he later provided the voice of Francis, the talking Mule in a series of comedy films in the 1950s

This is their best film followed by Sons of the Desert
Stan said this was his favorite film.
I can see why the infectious laughter of being tickled by Lola trying to get the deed out of his shirt and jacket 😂😂😂
@@jonathanbennaman6753 And that is one of the funniest film sequences in Laurel and Hardy film history. I share your laughter and delight.
That Was Good Tanks You God Bless You
Stan and his holy shoe😂😂😂
Oliver Hardy has such a great singing voice at 29:00. When Hardy eats his hat, or tries to, in the next scene he has a brand-new hat. Now, how did that happen?
His start in show business was as a singer, accompanying minstrel shows.
Very cool, did not know that. I guess a lot of early actors and comedians did that as well@@12classics39 Have a great day. God bless you and yours.
I heard of that. Must be great to have that kind of talent. Have a good day.
Well, Stan mentioned in an interview in 1962 that the part of the hat he ate in this movie was made of licorice. Maybe that's why it looks different.
@@Accam570 Did not think of that, but licorice makes sense. Have a blessed day,
thx 4 posting

That look Ollie gives……
Is like this is very bad idea.
Chill wills was a really great singer he later became the voice of Francis the talking Mule were they showcase, his singing skills as well
Ha ha! Kitchy koo, Stanley. Are you ticklish? LOL.
FINALLY ❤❤❤❤
Brilliant!
Love it!
29:99. Lol when Stanley all of a sudden sings with a more deeper voice, then when Ollie bonks him, he has a woman’s voice.
voices of Chill Wills and Rosina Lawrence respectively.
