  • After many weekends, beers and headscratchers, my dingo and I build finally finished building door storage in my troopy. I am not a chippy and have no mechanical experience nor trade qualification if it isn’t obvious already (just an ignorant uni student). This project was so fun to make and any troopy owner is capable of doing it.
This projected was generously supported by Dingo Brewing Co. I could not have finished this project without their beer (gods nectar). Seriously good beer.
Sam Kandray and @troopkennel_ on Instagram deserve a shout out for providing me photos of their designs and ideas.

Tip for rattles on herbs. Get some 10mm x 2mm sticky back rubber / foam and wrap it around the glass once. Just takes away that glass on glass noice and maximises space.

Good job. I've got a powerful magnet about the size of a cigarette packet. I put it in and old sock to pick swarfe nails and shit up in. I peel the sock off and chuck it in the bin. Eoukd have been good for the door.

I hope the troopy will be the beast to rely on on your journeys to come. Cheers from Estonia

Great job! A little trick for the shrapnel... I keep a couple of fridge magnets on my panels, handy to collect metal shards when drilling/cutting. A little magnet on a string works for 'fishing' shards outta the panel cavities too. Shame it can't fish out the drilled out nubs of ali pop rivets tho'. Troop on!

Great idea! I'll definitely do that next time I cut holes in my car.

Brilliant I have to see if something like this is possible with my Fj Cruiser. I was going to purchase a table but I like the idea of building it and adding the door storage. Great video

Good idea with the pilot hole in the corners for the jigsaw, you can also do that for when you're cutting the steel out of your door so you don't cut too far...if you had a time machine 😜😜
Good work I've been thinking of doing this for ages 👍👍

Nice. I think I'll fix the gas cooker to the dropdown table, then make a cut out in the door to the right side so that when I drop the table the cooker is ready to go. On the left I'll make a cut out for the oil, sauce ad spices.

Thanks for the video - just bought a Troopy and I’m super interested in these build vids. The finish looks really good, how has the door held up strength wise after a year? I’d love to do the same but I’m worried about cutting that much metal away.

      Thanks mate,
I’ve had this on for a year and the door has held up just fine. It’s only light 7mm plywood, and the storage units never hold anything heavy.

can you tell me what is the storage box in the rear panel on the passenger side? thanks

That is fibreglass butane gas bottle storage container modified to suit all the ex-hertz touring troopies. I've removed all the gas lines in the car, and plan to remove the box entirely and make a 'slide out of car' drawer to hold all my cooking gear.

With all the fiddling around, drilling and mocking around to put this table in place, how much did it cost you to put it all together? Wouldnt it been easier to just buy a folding tressle table in bunnings that cost 35 bucks????? Not to mention the time you put to put this folding table at the back of your 4wd....a 35 dollar solution ijn bunnings would have been an easier fix and fit !!!!!!!

The supplies would not have exceeded $80. Time was the biggest expense. I don't look at ways to cut corners for my projects, which is what you're suggesting. I took my time in this project to learn new skills and patience.
