Me 2 🤣 but tbh he wasn't hear to leave room for other characters 😂😂😂 cuz everyone knows he is just the best character in the entire ff14 not just dawntrail
I did like Wuk Lamat at first, but later started to resent her when we were paired with her as the other half of the group went elsewhere. I definitely wanted more time with other characters. I’m so happy we got that one-on-one time with Erenville and would have loved that with Krile as well.

@@TheCallOfTheValkyrie That's because the Scions are multiple characters with different voices and personalities. Wuk Lamat is only one person you have to look at for the majority or the MSQ. I personally like Wuk Lamat enough to want to see her again when she's less of a main character, but even I know that in the MSQ being there was wayyyyy too much of her in every zone.
Like, it could've been much better if she paired with other characters rather than the WoL, interacted with them more rather than the WoL, and let everyone else shine and not just her.

I would have been fine with Wuk Lamat if she just stayed in the city after becoming dawnservant. But I feel like the limited character growth she had in the 2nd half wasn't worth the exhaustion I was starting to feel with the character.
Bakool Ja Ja surprised me, because I really didn't expect my opinion of him to change as much as it did. But he was a big part of when the expansion started to really interest me, and I ended up enjoying the character. Erenville and Cahciua were great, and Otis was a pleasant surprise for me.
Honey B over Yaana/Black Cat feels criminal...
Totally agree with this. I would have been fine with Wuk Lamat if they left her in Tulliyolal after the ceremony, the rest felt kind of forced and...just jamming puzzle pieces together that didn't quite fit because the writers *needed* her to be the focus.
Big same agreeing with the Bakool Ja Ja thing as well. As I went through the story, he was so rude and such a pain in the a55, but like...by the end, the dude had some of the strongest character growth, and even scored a job working with the people whom he'd been working against in an effort to defend not only his home, but these new strangers who were willing to give him another chance. I found myself cheering him on during the battle scenes against ZJ's forces, and feel like his placing on the poll is rightly justified, community thirst or not. XD
Furthermore, the Alexandria stuff is definitively Scions territory. They even lampshade how it’s another dead society trying to preserve themselves forever and Alisaie is shocked it is not an Allagan/Ascian plot. They are aware the Sphene stuff is Scion territory and Wuk Lamat is stapled. For once, there is a person that can be left behind forever when MSQ creeps forward.
Black Cat makes me feel like I'm the main character again, I love her. Erenville and Krille being the top is understandable, because damn they deserve all the hugs for being sidelined in their own expansion.

I was neutral to Black Cat at first but she grew on me real fast. She's so cute and dependable, giving us her support even when we have to face her sister. Crazy that Yaana could do that in just a few short quests while Wuk Lamat just grated on my nerves until there's nothing left but resentment and annoyance despite trying my best to like her.
@@bigtimetimmyjim6486 I agree. The implications of an extremely advanced technological race just plopping down onto our planet that uses souls to avoid death instead of returning to the planet like they should was my big "okay but what about..." at the end of the MSQ.
@@lens_hunterI can’t blame you (even I feel it was better than 50% of the msq), Arcadion story used time wisely and every cutscene had a purpose (very well done for starting the first part of the raid story).
Erenville was #1 because he is just an overall good character who was utilized well whenever he became the focus of the story, which is not enough of the time. Erenville also gets a nod from me for being the only character to make me laugh during the MSQ; I think a lot of the "comedy" is really forced, but when we were gearing up to fight for the 7th keystone, the camera pans to each character to strike their battle pose, and then the camera pans to Erenville...and he runs away, I lost it. It did not really seem like something planned by a writing team, but a small touch added by a scene animator at the last minute.
Yeah the comedy on the first half are very japanese, it's hit or miss for global audience, just like hildibrand.

The problem with Wuk Lamat is she overstays her welcome when there are other characters are around and has minimal character development. It's kind of strange because I think people make a parallel comparison with her and Lyse and feels like they didn't learn from that.
I think a decent portion of the playerbase could take a break from her though lol -- would be nice if we can see more into the other characters in DT, Koana and so on. I definitely don't feel like they had enough screen time.
Edit: To build on this, I mean the other new characters. It's clear to me that they had a story to tell about Zarool and Bakool but they weren't given enough time and could have given been bigger parts.
This also applies to both Erenville and Krile who are other reasons we came to Tural. I feel like the story of Krile and Erenville should have a lot more in it than what we were given. Hell, I'd even say it'd be a better ending for a Trial if Wuk Lamat did come and help us -- but also with like the memories of the people we literally were just with in Living Memory to drive the point home.
You will never see much of Koana, someone needs to rule this huge state while the other one goes around eating tacos and looking to step into our next adventures as she mentioned already.
But no worries as soon as we go to the First and she tries to steal the spotlights with Runar, Y'shtola will incinerate her on the spot.

Meanwhile the Scions taking the place of what could have been SEVERAL new characters to get to know in this new adventure as our companions in Turaal was absolutely fine. Just like how when THANCRED has a funny scene, it's fine, a real kneeslapper, HILARIOUS even, but when Wuk Lamat has a silly scene, she's annoying.
It's a rule of thumb for this community, they want the same exact story told forever lmfao
@@TheCallOfTheValkyrie I dunno, with the exception of Krile, the scions did so little it felt like they weren't even there. I liked Wuk, however others definitely needed more screentime, not just the scions. Our solo time with Erenville was a breath of fresh air.

My problem with Wuk Lamat is less her character and more the writers' fixation on her. It felt like the scions in her presence forgot their history so we see little of them. This was fine in the first half as they intentionally took a backseat but in the latter half there is no reason at all to let Wuk Lamat lead in this world threatening disaster over people experienced with this stuff. The scions especially got done dirty.
You talking about Wuk Lamat coming at the end like Zenos did, those aren’t even in the same universe for how much better Zenos’ was. It felt unearned for Wuk as you said, and weird because the power disparity. It’s was too on the nose and cheesy, she’s literally talking to her in such a cringey was as well, it took me out of the amazing fight. Zenos breaking into Meteion’s Ultimatum, him questioning us with, how are we still not done with this despair felt great, and the moment the music kicks in and you jump on his back, I’m getting chills just thinking about it and I always do. Like him or not, that moment was executed 100x better.
I think part of the other problem is that they were writing a trope-y Shonen character arc, and she acts very much like characters in those manga/anime; Aang from Avatar, Natsu from Fairy Tale, Goku from Dragonball etc. these characters work in their shows yes, but the shows and manga also emphasize other characters that tend to provide a balance to the goofy overly positive main character. We were supposed to serve that purpose here but it just ended up being us being the gif of the bearded guy nodding and saying Yes
Imagine, at the end of Stormblood, we were fighting Zenos in his Shinryu form, and out of nowhere, Lyse instant transmissions into the fight and steals the show. We would have called that dumb and contrived.
That last scene of Wuk Lamat was the absolute worst scene in the expansion for me.
ya...that cutscene during the last fight, i too felt, was terrible. whenever i see it i'm still questioning what power is she losing control of? i don't recall her having any special power over reality that she would lose control of. also we're not in reality. it was a line that was shoehorned in to make up a reason for her to be there.
also annoying is her character development seems to be a growing sense of self importance. like just before the fight she all "i haven't said what i wanted to say" like she knows she's the main character and her words are important. And in the next cutscene she admits nothing she says matters but she has to say it anyway.
There was no power up for wuk lamat in that last fight. Go rewatch the trial and pay attention to the walls around the arena. As the queen goes into overdrive they start breaking and Wuk Lamat in that cutscene comments on how the barrier is weakening which allows her to come through.
It's a point that many people miss and mistake it for wuk lamat having an insane power up at the very end which allows her to break the barrier by herself.
TBH Koana giving up his chance at the throne to assist his 'country', as it were, should have been an auto win for him, because it shows he became someone that wouldn't be afraid of making difficult decisions for the good of his people. Just wish we could have been with Koana as he had more character development in the few cutscenes we saw him than Wuk had in the entire expansion.
Wuk just went from 'I'm gonna be the Dawnservant and bring peace to my people' (who were already at peace.....) to 'I'm the Dawnservant and will bring peace to my people' That's not character development that's just a change in catchphrase 🤣
Really the role should have switched. WL should have realized Koana was the better option and destroyed her stones for Koana. Then Koana makes WL co-Dawnservant. Instantly better.
Would love to see Koana more, hopefully post MSQ can do that
As a technophile who sometimes misses the forest for the trees, Koana really vibed with me.
I too have those moments where I have to confront the fact that technology should exist to serve the *people* (even if only by proxy) and that it has little inherent value outside of that. It's not that Koana struck me as someone who didn't care about his people, just that his ultra-high level view of how to improve their lives with Sharlayan advancements prevented him from addressing their issues on a personal level. And a good Dawnservant should be more balanced than that.
That said...while Koana did earn his spot it feels a very lame that he learned so much from Wuk Lamat only for Wuk Lamat to defer to him as the Head of Reason simply because she's "big dumb warrior"™. If anything he showed both Resolve and Reason while Wuk only showed resolve. It feels like she didn't learn anything from him.
Just my two cents.
maybe.... maybe the writers will use wuk lamat as a sacrfice to make koana the main focus between the two , and then he'll have to deal with loss again but thats fine , we love some good trauma, and also no more peace and happiness and vow of resolve words in every sentence and scene.... surely... haha... please send help, im so tired of wuk lamat.
Honey B Lovely being over Wuk Lamat makes me happy. We see her for like… 2 minutes and have a fight with her over the main character of Dawntrail. Makes me happy to be a Groupbee!
I agree. That Honey B is so high on the list hopefully tells SE two things, 1) we love Honey B because you did something right there, and 2) That so few other characters were more memorable then a raid boss means you need to revisit your writing as to why so many made little to no impression.

@@AlleluiaElizabeth it’s already a thing. I found out about it because of a comment in the theme song for Honey B. Lovely. So if you see bee looking glamours they’re probably a Groupbee. You cannot avoid the sting.

the first half Wuk was fine, it was her story and it made sense. the second half, we were firmly in Scion territory and they kept dangling the scions in front of us, making us think we were finally going to spend time with them, then just to take them away after one line. It was worse than if they weren't there at all.
Yeah a lot of the Scions ended up doing nothing or being so shallow. Which hits SO HARD when in the previous expansion they were checking up on you and actually interacted.
Graha’s little gondola scene got me so emotional for some reason and I realized I really *missed* just having these moments with our companions instead of having “the people” brought up too much.
Lol, first half? I was sick of her about 1-2 hours in.
I need her to be murdered, I'm not resubbing until I get what I want. Since the development team NEVER gives me anything I want, looks like I'm done with the game.
I feel Wuk should have taken a backseat-role after she became dawnservant, and it should have been about Erenville and Krile. I would also have loved to see more of the Scions in general, and not them just turning up randomly to fill the slots for duty support. It was just too much Wuk I feel. The story rests upon if you like her or not, and if you don't you are stuck with her for all the time. When we explored Living Memory with Raha I felt like "Nice! Someone I WANT to hear speaking his heart and not a broken record." She started to lose me after Shaaloni and had me shake my head when she was like "I wish we would have gotten through to Joraal Ja." Dude just started a fricking, and really horrific genocide for extremely selfish reasons... there is nothing to regret. Only way he could have been more evil is if he had a moustache. The final zone and how hard it was to press those final two buttons saved it for me. Sphene being an interesting vilian, with her goals being understandable is what made her for me. It's the same reason I loved Nidhogg, Gaius, Emet and Metion... the best vilians are those that make you question if you'd be them in their position.
Wuk needs a glowup like Nanamo to be less naive when it comes to "We want peace, we want friends." She needs to learn that some causes are lost ones.
I can at least understand that the other Scions are not in focus. Yes, their perspectives would have been great against Wuk Lamat but at the end of the day, it’s the story of who Wuk Lamat became Dawnservant and the Scions just witness that. What is weirder that Erenville and Krile never figure.
Sphene was maximum dumb tho.
She is obviously not happy with Zoral ja and he himself is kind of an idiot.
Sphene has a problem with 1)Ather 2)Souls and 3) other Shards, Zoral ja knows nothing about those but she more then once notice the Scions seem to be experts.

oh so i am not the onyl one who had a hard itme pressing the button on every zone , like unplugging a loved one from live support... it hurted so much. on the first one with namikka i hadn't fully realised and i didn't like wuk lamat anyway so it didn't hurt but then i realised with otis i would have to say goodbye for good :') (i used to like wuk lamat and fulyl expected first half to be about her, but the more it went.. the more i hated her, even in part 1, but i braced in, because surely she owuld take a backseat in part 2... but nope x_x )
@@Blutwind it wasnt sudden, she always was evil. she hates killing but she does it for the betterment of her people. she is shaped from misguided memories of the queen sphene, so that want to protect at all cost her people got out of control, like corrupted data, which i think is the point on the lvl 100 dungeon graphics. so she kill but while begin sad about it, but without regrets, cause it's for her people. their tech is advanced enough too to understand they probably had no other choice. there is no way for her to keep the endless alive without sacrifice. and endless should not exist. The point of krile's parent giving the key to gulool ja ja, was probably so they would die out in their own world, so the queen couldn't invade other reflections for sustenance, but zareel ja opened that opportunity, so she took it to finally have souls back. zareel ja said it, she was in desperate time, so they were probably getting low on energy to sustain the endless already.
Not sure why are Yaana and Black Cat each occupying one spot when they're the same character

I think its a good way to separate story from boss appearance though. Maybe some like Yaana more than Black Cat in their respective forms.
Says at the botton of the page it's a mistake, and "Yaana" was supposed to be "Neyuuni" the youngest sister - but since ppl already started voting they just gonna count them both as Black Cat
Erenville's JP voice actor just sounds like a normal deep and brooding guy with a relatively standard japanese accent. So idk if the icelandic accent was a factor here for this ranking.

I hate his English voice over, the rolled Rs in every single word are so goofy. wasn't a fan of most of the accents this expansion

@@SableWindthats actually erenville’s english VA’s regular speaking voice. icelandic accents are just like that. alphy’s VA posted a video featuring a lot of the VAs and when he popped up i had a chuckle because its literally exactly the same as erenville in-game lol.
@@gemagainst maybe Idk, I've looked up other Icelandic speakers speaking English, and while they might have rolled Rs now and then, it's not on every word. The only people I could find online who sound like Erenville are Americans faking Icelandic accents, and one dude who sells his channel on being a "viking" and appears to be heavily leaning on those rolled Rs, like Erenville.
I'm not saying he's faking it - could be a regional dialect or something - but it reminds me a LOT of the Spanish speakers this expansion, who seemed to unnaturally skew their own real accents, maybe for the sake of the "fantasy." I'm not sure, I just know I'm not a fan of this trend in Dawntrail (and I suppose EW as well, since Erenville and Wuk Lamat started there)
Fact that Wuk Lamat is not even in the top ten and some less important characters are above her is just *chef's kiss*. Hopefully they take very deep note of that and just sort of ax Wuk Lamat away for the future.
Its really something that the JP audience made this poll...I say this because sometimes I think that since this game is played by different cultures and perspectives that if the western audience voted this way it wouldn't be taken as seriously maybe? Because western cultures have different viewpoints but since it's people in their own backyard saying that the Poster child is not a good character...says volumes and it really stings that lesser known dare I say NPC level characters were placed in front of Wuk.

Erenville and his (hot) mom are amazing characters. The fact that the last part of Living Memory was for those two speaks for themselves since you leave the best for last in some situations.
I did feel like they rushed Krile story, i love her and i'm totally bias but i think she deserve more, specially since at least for me this was the oportunity to spend more time with her.
Bakool Ja Ja is a fun character, and it's easy for me leave behind all the shit he did cause you know that wasn't his choise, was his only option until you show her there's another way. And more since he's really into attoning for what he did and not putting the blame on his past or story.
Koana is a waaaaay better character than Wuk, and have a lot of character development. Also he's a siscon and i find that awesome, gives him a touch of stupidity and out of character that makes him feel not one direction.
And the fact that Wuk Evu and Honey B are in the top 10 is mental.
Wuk is a character that i completely despise. Was ok with him on the pre patch, but during the expansion i felt like a babysitter of a toddler that didn't knew anything about the place she was raised and lived her entire life. The first half of the msq was beyond painful. And even when people try to fight really hard the idea that you're not babysitting, you're mentoring, is like... you do nothing for her except maybe a couple of options that doesn't really matter like all the options in 14. Second half just with Erenville was so much better, but then she had to stick again with us and everything had to revolve around her. Absolutely despise her, and comparing her to Lyse is an insult for her cause even when she was super annoying on SB, if you see the background it make sense the way she is.
People talk about how this isn't our expansion, we are not the MC, and i'm totally ok with that. For all i know i could be Erenville or Krile sidekick for the entire expansion and be happy if they have a good ending in their quest, can't same the same with Wuk as the MC.
Wuk Evu is not Wuk Lamat. Wuk Evu is the formality fetish, Wuk Lamat is the main character. Wuk Lamat did not make the top 10.
wuk evu is the guy that has a thing for manners/politeness, you'Re mixing him with wuk lamat. he wasn't in the prepatch. wuk evu's humour is very japanese like, so you either like the absurd repeititive humour or you dont. i personally liked his character. I'm actually sad that wuk lamat on the other hand is ranked so high, why is she above gulool ja is beyond me.

Gotta love that mostly-comic-relief Wuk Evu even outdid the 'Protagonist'. Also, what exactly did Shale do to be relatively popular? I had to look up who that even was again
She talked normally and AT the WoL which was basically awesome compared to everyone else. Low bar, sad I know.
Shale does have a cute design. Also helps she actually talks to and interacts with the WoL, reminding us we’re still a character in the story.

i feel like huge problem Wuk Lamat had was constant sending away the scions, i'm convinced the character would feel better if you had a constant light party with Erenville, Wuk and Krile instead of rejoining with scions just to send them away a second later.
Wuk is nowhere near level of Lyse, however even tho she does grow during the story she has too many 'silly' moments as well as too many 'power of friendship' moments (like the one in final trial). It does feel like it's not the concept behind her that failed but writing of her lines.
The other part that hurts Wuk so much is constant comparison to Koana as it appears the story behind Koana's growth during MSQ feels more compelling. It seems like having Koana as the main focus with Wuk as supporting to Koana would be a better way.
It all adds up to Wuk Lamat just being a mid character, you're not thrilled to be around her, you don't mind her either but you're annoyed the rest of the cast left you so you put the blame on her.
If they took like 35% of the screentime devoted to wuk lamat and gave it to other characters (ZORAL JA FOR FUCKS SAKE), I would've like the expansion way more.

It's a crime that Krile did not have authority to activate the console even if she had the earring.
I was alright with the first half of DT but IMMEDIATELY perked up during the flashback scene.
The imagery of this Lalafel holding a baby so solemnly while a portal is blasting behind her was on of the coolest images that gave me chills.
Krile keeps taking L's from the writers...honestly what has Krile done to the devs for them to treat her this way? LOL
It felt like this was two stories that had to get unraveled and deconstructed to staple them together, which weakened them in the process. The first half felt sped up, rushed and summarized at times to fit it in the first 5 levels, and the second half quite frankly could have been told entirely without Wuk Lamat or Zoraal Ja. But if Sphene had been talking to us the whole time, it would have ended up feeling like a rehash of Emet-Selch.
Think the problem with Wut Lamat was that it was poison chalice. The fact they had so much screen time had two effects, one we got sick of them, two they actually took away from us spending time with characters we liked. Even if they were a great character, the fact they were always there is pretty high on the list of reasons why I never want to see them again.
This is pretty much my feelings. I feel like it could’ve been better if Wuk Lamat had more personal interactions with everyone rather than just shoving everyone to the side. Make them feel like a *part of the team* rather than just being constantly the focus alone
wuk lamat's presence also diluted every other character. the moment she wasn't there, it felt like characters were themselves again. with how the community (including the jp , especially the jp actually) is shitting on the writing and how much wuk is everywhere, im hopeful they wont redo this.
The part where Koana was willing to straight up game end Wuk Lamats kidnappers is the moment I was like, "Oh snap! This guy is Wild! Love it."
Bakool Ja Ja has his meme potential but he is, unfortunately, the only character in the entire expansion that had any sort of arc or development. Even if it was an instant turn.
The writing in this expansion was startlingly terrible. The pacing, dialogue, character presentation and development, etc. was worse than old tribe quest lines.
I didn't dislike Wuk Lamat as a character and I thought her VA did good. I actually rather liked her in 6.55 but the Wuk Lamat in 7.0 was a completely different character. She was presented as putting forth false confidence because she was being pushed to do something that she didn't want to do but felt she had to. He was shaking after the bird fight. What we ended up with was a modern "western" style Mary Sue. She never once failed at anything she tried. She never got knocked down a peg to learn a lesson. Her only hurdles was just overcoming the same lack of confidence in the exact same way every could of hours just to instantly succeed outright.
It felt like they knew the character had no flaws so they tried to tack on the same, gets seasick, scared of alpacas, scared of balloons every hour and a half. Her only "heroes journey" was being forced to come to terms with the fact that she was awesome all along. It feels like "modern" western character design. Rey Skywalker, etc.
In the end, it was the writing but I am concerned that this made it to production through the development and oversight process. It wasn't a mistake, it was a very bad choice.
By the cutscene after the second raid fight, you suddenly realize that Yaana is a better presented, deeper, and more fleshed out character than Wuk Lamat was even at the end and you want to know more about the story when you just wanted Wuk to go away.
100% agree with this. Wuk Lamat had no arc, and learned nothing. I could not relate to her at all. Wuk Lamat, not so much. There wasn't one thing that made me go, Okay, I get it, she's had it rough. I never once wanted to root for her. I was rooting for Koana! I wanted to be with my dogs Thancred and Urianger!

Wuk Lamat got 7000 words vs 13000 of all the others summed up as for some statistics I saw. An over exposure that made me really feel someone is always there even when I try to go to the toilette.
I feel as though Wuk Lamat's story should have ended halfway through, and that's where Krile's story should have really shot off (I also am a Krile fan Quazii). I also feel bad for Krile that her own arc was so rushed and she was sort of "pushed aside" when going to the last zone, I think she was done dirty in that moment by the writers. If I had to pick only 1 out of that list it would be Krile.

I was honestly fully expecting them to add Geomancer as a more supporty DPS caster, and to make Krile a Geomancer.
Astromancers are about deriving power from other stars, while Geomancer is about communing with and drawing power from the star under our feet; and Krile was very clearly communing with Hydealyn, while Hydaelyn was within our star's lifestream.
That aside, giving so much focus to an untested brand new character in Wuk Lamat was a very bad decision. Not giving her any character development, no motivations beyond "I wanna be Hokage", not showing any growth, making her get randomly stronger offscreen, having very poor VA work/direction; all while sidelining and pushing every other actually interesting or well written character far to the side to grow the spotlight on Wuk Lamat.
It all coalesces into a character very few people like, much less tolerate; especially when there's so many other actually interesting and well handled characters, both in DT and prior content.
I can't help but feel like Wuk Lamat was just the obsessive creation of one single higher-up whom forced the entire development to bend everything around their mary sue OC (and/or waifu), to the extreme detriment of every other character.
the fact she had to steal the show even in the last fight, utterly destroyed the mood. It was a small moment of victory, finally, epic combat, WoL badass moment, but nah. rince repeat combat mechanic of endsinger phase 2 in regular mode ( aka desperately just repeating one aoe cast over and over on your party until it's dead) but with the added debuff of having to witness wuk lamat steal the glory and delivery horrendous cheese line that would make gaia shiver (negatively). to the very last moment, wuk has been a nuisance to the enjoyment of any cool scene ... I hope they wont put all their eggs in the same character again in the future, and one as bland as wuk at that... If it really was one person pushing their agenda in the team with wuk, i do hope they get placed somewhere else, because handling this big of a deal was NOT made for them at all. the role quest and the normal raid has better story and character, put those people in charge instead lol...

Doesn't help that it was kinda in the nose we were supposed to like her but she massively overstayed her welcome and stole important time for Krille and Erenville.
Also doesn't help she butted in the last fight when she had zero business standing toe-to-toe with the Queen Eternal.
Sphene did not appeal to me at all, and we didn't spend enough time with her for me to care about her arc. I'm not familiar with the FF world outside of FF14 so none of those easter eggs registered with me. What did grab my attention were the mentions of The Preservation. It felt to me like this was set up as the next world threat, and I hope this continues into the next expansion. The Preservation could threaten Eorzea and other reflections which would give the WOL and the Scions an enemy force and a reason to visit new places.
My take from it was that I liked the vibes, but the characters genuinely weren’t compelling besides Erenville’s character arc towards the end
also there were barely any easter eggs, Alexandria is a reference to FF9 and Sphene supposed to be a reference to a character from it named Garnet (who is the princess of Alexandria) but in name only cause they obviously don’t act the same at all
other than that, a tiny bit of FF9 music that plays in the last area is a reference but that’s it
When Sphene was first introduced, I thought she was one of the Meteia (Meteon's sisters) that didn't get caught up in the despair and ended up on a shard... I was very disappointed that she was not.

I am familiar with FF9, it's my favourite FF game, which is the clear reference for the second part of the MSQ and I felt insulted by how that game memory was treated. I could go into more detail but just playing Umetsu's music from FF9 over anytime Sphene was on screen even if she's speaking the must mundane dialogue felt ridiculous to me. Otis (Steiner), his treatment not even getting to solo instance the play something that a PS1 game was able to handle. It felt insulting to me, because of how wasted the potential of FF9 and it just went nowhere other than "REMEMBER THIS MUSIC, YOU REMEMBER THIS NAME?" they didn't even try to make it into an FF14 story. They used names and themes but they all felt so separate from the story they wanted to tell.
For me, Bakool is silly. He causes mayhem and problems, he adds a bit more abrasive character to the mix, then he becomes sympathetic in his plight and reasoning. Big bully ends up becoming a big charismatic hero by the invasion point, and he doesn't overstay his welcome.
He has clear faults that had a reason for being there and he grows to be a cool dude. A bit rapidly, sure, but it took a couple ego checks while he probably had his own doubts.
Contrast that with someone who.. Gets infinitely better for little to no reason other than mild confidence boosts, and stays glued to you for most of the entire expansion, has zero faults other than being scared of various things but doing them anyway.. and is an extremely cookie cutter good person.
It's no wonder that Bakool is way more beloved than Wuk Lamat. I don't even think they cash salvage her after that final trial. Prior to it, i felt like it was possible, but after that i just don't want to see her outside of "Hi haha yeah we're in Tuili again nice to see you anyway bye". She's already gone through her entire character arc and just solved every problem she came across.
I didn't want to jump on the wuk Lamat hater bandwagon immediately but after thinking about it post msq for like 2 weeks the more I realize how much I dislike her as a character.

@@papasfritas3853 Bakool Ja Ja was literally the only reason we had any sort of action in the first half of the story too for the most part. He knew we were bored and caused trouble to make literally anything exciting happen.
Sphene - Evil, but hot. Also mildly sympathetic.
Elenesh'pya - Merits are self evident.
Cahciua - The mom we all remember fondly.
Krile - Excellent character development and story arc.
Wuk Lamat - Lyse 2.0 + Rinoa from FF8, but somehow even worse than the combo suggests.
Bakool Ja Ja and Koana are generally interesting characters, as is Wuk Evu and Gulool Ja Ja. Honey is almost certainly there for the bee memes.
Squeenix still hasn't quite realized that you can't make a "likeable" character - it has to be organic. People hated Alphinaud for being a pompous little shit, but he had actual character development that was more focused on telling a good character story than making a "likeable" character. End result, he remains a fan favorite even today.
Every time they've tried to make a "likeable" character - Rinoa, Lyse and now Wuk - they fail miserably. Yet they keep trying. Its annoying.

I finished DT MSQ a few days ago, so I'll share my comments about Wuk Lamat here (my friend group just started the Arcadian series of raids and tonight I think we're continuing them so we only met Black Cat and Honey B Lovely). Wuk started out fine for me. I liked the set up of the rite of succession fine, and was okay with being the secondary character considering the WoL was the focus for the past expac. However Wuk got grating towards the end once Alexandria got involved. I understand Wuk wanting to come to terms with Sphene and wanting to find a middle ground, but it wasn't delivered the best. Koana I absolutely love. I will protect this Baja-Blast version of G'raha Tia with my life. Erenville and Krile are great, and I already loved Krile to begin with.
Just wish ultimately Wuk was left behind for the Alexandria arc so Krile and Erenville got their moments, and maybe Zarool Ja could've been handled later, maybe post DT like how Nidhogg was dealt with post HW. Not sure how I'd change it but yeah.

Wuk Lamat coming in mid-fight was completely unnecessary, i'm already annoyed at the game taking on the abit of WoL needing to always summon helpers to fight when we should be perfectly able to handle it by ourselves. (Azem crystal was really my least favorite addition to the story since they are abusing it now)
That scene felt like a bad copy of Zenos entrance in EW and it really felt cheap (i hate Zenos but i admit that scene was cool).
I don't really mind her getting screentime, the WoL took on the role of a mentor this expansion...but that last trial really was too much.
I guess i'm just bitter at the fact that the game suddenly forced us to fight in a party canonically when we've been fine alone for 4 expansions.
When it comes to WoL needing help thats pretty much always been the case. Sure they're powerful af but they're not all powerful. At the end of the day with every each expansion the theme has been community and needing others to help. And the fact that this is an MMO and not a completely single player RPG. If you take away summoning people for trials and dungeons, you take away the multi-player element in the MSQ.
We have been fighting in a party canonicaly since SB. Nidhogg was the last fight in msq that was truly alone in canon.

I think I heard Susanoo was also solo in japanese and the adventurer thing was only in english (not sure on this one though).
The primal at the end of the EW Hildibrand Questline was also solo.

The times when it was really story centric and made sense to use in ShB and EW were cool, but I feel like I vaguely remember them saying that it was the last vestiges of its power we were using. I kinda thought it would have died shortly after we dealt with the Endsinger.
I also really miss the fun descriptions of why a bunch of other people showed up to help with fights like a bunch of your friends just happened to be passing by on a fishing trip and could help you beat up Susano.
If we beat Shinryu 1 on 1 we definitely can beat most of the latest enemies without help (Like the voidsent kings)
Wuk Lamat was just watching the same story arc as Lyse and Alphinaud, yet with less deserved payoff. Getting schooled by Bakool Ja Ja a couple feats in, TWICE, then miraculously shrugging him off a couple feats later, to then breaking down dimensional barriers a la Zenos because of the power of ~s e l f e s t e e m~ was cringe. Would be glad if she disappears into the background like other less popular nation leaders.

Imagine if Krile was Azem's fraction from that reflection, like Meteor and Ardbert. Given the quality of her echo, that is arguable xD. (of course this isn't the case, but I'd find that amazing)
I am so happy to see my favourite DT character here, Wuk Evu.
But I am also glad that my fellow players have great taste, and put Honey B. Lovely at #9, therefore I look forward to seeing Honey as a major character in every story going forward.

I am totally share your feelings about Wuk Lamat, it was a bit too much, less Wuk it might helped the character but it was overexposed, i said to my wife i like cake but i dont eat an entire cake in one sit. And pretty much i agree it was totally unnecesary and and a big miss having lamat in the final battle saving the day, totally took me out of the place/moment. Actually One of my favorite parts was the shaaloani segment, because we took a break from Wuk Lamat, at that point i thought we had enough, and i thought this is the part when the other characters are going to get the spotlight, but sadly i was wrong. Anyway content wise this expansion looks strong, and it might become the best, but lets hope storywise the team change for the better.

They could make me really really happy just by killing Wuk Lamat off the story. I've never felt that way before for any character but she is ALREADY irritating to the extreme but they had the nerve to force her on us ALL THE TIME. She quickly went from meh to "go away"... then over the course of the expansion she hit "please just die already" status.
I loved Gulool Ja Ja as well because he felt almost like a chaotic good Zenos what with his craving for a good battle the moment he gets a chance.

I had hope they delved more on Zoraal Ja, perhaps his upbringing or history that led him to do what he did, considering he differs alot compared to his siblings.

We knew he was the only son, related by blood, to Gulool Ja Ja, but that doesn't inherently mean that there's a ton of pressure on him. He was the leader of their defense force. He was stoic and strong, kept to himself mostly. If he was masking all his pain and suffering from being held to a certain standard, then he did a good job, because it didn't show. Not giving the player a bit of backstory to it, or like...maybe a CS or two where we get the chance to talk to Zoraal Ja in private and learn more about him, then maybe we could have felt a little more about him as a character before we had to take him out. I mean, we don't even have an explanation of Gulool Ja (his son), like...since Zoraal was so focused on training and fighting, when would he have time for a love life? We see no legit mother-figure. we barely explore the kid before finishing off his dad and having a dry 2 minutes where ZJ hands off his Kingly Title to the kid. This all could have been done better if we dedicated less time to Wuk Lamat's friendship speeches.
Yeah I honestly didn’t like him or Sphene at all. Sphene actually had a bit of a reason that was flawed on purpose, but Zoraal Ja is just… daddy issues.
Which sucks because his VA did a great job and I honestly thought this cool military leader would have an interesting perspective on the protection of his realm. But no. Just issues and little deprh

I personally like him as a character, his twist of fate and the irony of being the trueborn son, just that there was too much emphasis on one side of the party and less on things that could have added more flavour in the storytelling. I agree, parting with his kid seems rushed, I hope they do better pacing at the next expansion ❤️ I definitely want to see mini Gulool Ja returns.
True!!! I really wanted to know what the hell happened to him to make him go down this path. Maybe taking some of the spotlight from Wuk and put it on the "villain" for some character development instead of typecasting him into the "big bad villain"

Only thing that Wuk Lamat succeed in doing is make Lyse seem like a better written character. And Stormblood gave us better charaters then DT, we got Sadu, nuff said.
I sincerely wonder if the Stormblood appreciation is more a reactionary hatred against Dawntrail’s main story? That is, they now know that Stormblood is not the worst they can do, Dawntrail is worse Stormblood, and now people “see the advantages of Stormblood”?

Not gonna lie, I hated Sadu as much as Lyse.
Overall I think 7.0 has the same problem 4.0 had, the story felt like it should have been across two expansions rather then one. Oh, and both expansions have main characters that people are split on and that we are very unlikely to see going forward.
Perhaps it is time that the devs come to terms with the fact that Daichi Hiroi should not be lead writing any more expansions since it seems to result in characters being sent to the farm up north.

In a sea of awfulness to mediocrity, imho the only characters on that list who had any semblance of writing behind them and weren't handled badly were Otis, Gulool Ja Ja, Mablu, the cat sisters and maaaaaybe at a stretch Koana. The rest were either awful from step 1 or were potentially decent characters who got shafted by the script/writing. Krile and Erenville WOULD have been great if they weren't invisible for 99% of the MSQ.
I was somewhat disappointed that we didn't have more Krile centered content. But there's always the post MSQ quests.
Wuk Lamat English VA ruined the entire character for me. I tried to get her a chance, but that speech she gives after Gulool Ja Ja death was the breaking point for me. I clicked and skipped all of her spoken dialogue after that speech. My eyeball twitched when I was forced to hear her voice in the Trail.
Couldn't be happier with top 3. It's a shame they felt sidelined in favor of Wuk Lamat a lot in the story. I cringed whenever I got stuck with her while everyone else got to do their own thing. Couldn't stand her as a character immediately upon meeting her back in EW. She grew on me little by little for the first half of the story in DT, but then all that good will was destroyed in the second half and I just wanted her gone. Going forward, I hope we don't have to be stuck babysitting her again.
I want Erenville to join the Scions and/or Students of Baldesion. :)
If they forced fight on him it would be bad to his character. He dont have any combat experience whatsoever. Also yoshida said the scions will not expand anymore.

I feel like we’ll see Wuk lamat less considering she is a leader of her nation like Kan’e senna or Vrtra she didn’t feel like she was part of the scions, but that’s not a bad thing but it was jarring to see her bust in the dimension like zenos did, I was like wait what?
So glad Wuk Lamat got rated so low. I thought I was crazy. At the middle of the expansion she started to annoy me so so much.. not even to speak of the bad/insufficient voice acting.

I personally love Wuk Lamat as a character and her voice actor. I think they did a great job. I can agree with another commenter here though, that after Wuk became Dawnservant we should've gotten the scions together in the usual fashion.
her german voice actor is great, so i didnt have that problem. i kinda liked her after she became queen (apart from a few issues) but when she reappered again she got VERY annoying VERY quickly
I didn't like in general how they gave Wuk Lamat roles from other characters in previous expansions to Wuk Lamat in this expansion
Those previous moments felt organic and hype for those characters and PART of those characters going forward.

I couldn't agree with your last point any more. Unless something major changes in the 7.x series, I hope Wuk Lamet gets the same treatment all the other local leaders get. Just bring her back if we have to go to her area, but otherwise forget about her.
It is nice that they are trying to use Wuk Lamat as the inexperienced member of the group with the WoL playing the Mentor Role, basically being the Auron from FFX of the group, and the WoL is kept in check by being a foreigner to the lands and anything they do could negatively impact Eorzea and Wuk Lamat. The thing that kinda head scratches me is Wuk Lamat's sudden power spikes throughout the game that makes it seem like she's jumping 20+ levels in a short amount of time. She just felt like she was someone's Mary Sue and they tried too hard to make people like her and push her as a protagonist and her power spikes aren't earned as WoL is doing most of the heavy lifting.
Glad to see "Laundromat" didn't make top 10 the most boring character in all of FF14. I'm so tired of peace and happiness give me a conflict we can sink our teeth into for awhile I don't wanna just smile, nod and hug it out.

Bakool Ja Ja actually had a character arc too, so he was interesting to me, but personally, Otis was my fav even though he was a flat character. Disappointed there wasn't more Otis. Something tells me we'll see an homage to Beatrix though, seeing as Sphene (Garnet + Brahn) and Otis (obvious Stiener) were clear homages.

Wuk Lamat got way too much screentime. She was not great, she is pretty much generic Shonen protagonist #infinity, if they didn't shoehorn her into everything, she would have been far more tolerable. The second half of the game should not have been one zone of exploration followed by more babysitting Wuk while her face was shoved into everything. They VASTLY overestimated how much people would like her. Also her powerup was just WAY too far. Even in a world where emption power ups are cannon, she went from like a 300 to an over 9000 way too fast.
Honestly I think the issue is Wuk feels like the kind of character you should have met and had this story with in ARR not at this point where you have punted entire pantheons in the grundle and can solve the core crisis of the story in like 10 minutes

@cizzymac I don't think you understand what a Mary Sue is. As someone who grew up in the age of terrible fanfics and OCs where Mary Sue trope got started, Wuk is far from it and Y'shtola is closer.
Mary Sues are special snowflakes that are all powerful, all loved and can do no wrong while also being attractive and desired by almost everyone she meets. If Wuk was truly a Mary Sue, she wouldn't be just a Warrior class, but a special class similar to Y'shtola (Sorceress) and G'raha (All rounder). But no, she's a normal warrior that's died multiple times in the trusts I've run. Meanwhile Y'shtola pulls off mechanics perfectly because she has a special power to see them.
Next, Wuk is not perfect. Her strengths are that she's willing to ask questions to understand people and Unga Bunga strength. Everything else she sucks at to the point she hasn't done anything notable and people did NOT care about her when announcing the claimants. Most even left. At the end she chooses Koana to join her BECAUSE she KNOWS she's dumb with everything else. Koana has everything she lacks. A Mary Sue wouldn't need that. A Mary Sue would be both powerful and educated with no real flaws to speak of. Sounds like a certain cat Scion, no? Her being "blind" rarely even matters.
Wuk isn't even my favorite character, not by a long shot. But to call her a Mary Sue is just plain incorrect. I see it's mostly guys who say this too who haven't read female oriented fan works where the actual Mary Sue title is warranted.
Mablu should've definitely been ranked higher than Wuk.

There's a bit of a misunderstanding I've noticed people have had when it comes to the meeting Gulool Ja Ja had with the WoL. During his conversation with them, even though he mentions that Lamat needs to grow to be able to rule, that's only one part of it, because he says right after that every one of the claimants need to grow, or they won't be able to rule effectively, and that is why he did the rite of succession the way he did. He hoped that at least one of the claimants would grow to be a ruler and fix their weak spots when it comes to leadership by the end, and he also said that if no one grows into a ruler by the end, then he wouldn't adjudicate the throne. Too many people, from what I've heard, think this was solely about Lamat, when it was actually about all the claimants.
Personally, I feel neutral about Wuk Lamut but I prefer NOT to travel or interactive with her that much. She's 1 dimensional character with a bad character development. I know it's only 1 expansion but look back at Elpis in Endwalker. With only 1 map I can feel the bonds I forge with Hermes and Hythlodaeus. This cat woman can't even forge a bond or make me feel her compassion in the entire 7.0 MSQ (I even like Wuk Evu more than her.)

Great insight and poll data. For any reasons you dislike Wuk Lamat, I can only imagine Square Enix Creative Studio 3 trying to figure out "How did we get it so wrong?".
Since Yaana and Black Cat are just two different names for the same character, she got 643 votes which puts her in 12th place, not far behind Wuk Lamat.
Wuk Lamat is the only FF14 Villain I couldn't beat.
She actually made me unsub to wait for a few patches to gather my strenght and come back for Dawntrail later.

@@RavenL1337 I sadly feel the same and I believe they won't sell any DT Story skips in the near future but even worse, I presume they will sell a Story skip for ARR-Endwalker, since that's a story arc which came to an end and Dawntrail would have been a great starting point for new players, if it wouldn't have been what it is.
This is actually one of the worst issues Square Enix will have going forward since they got themself into another ARR Situation all over again.

I hope this shows CBU3 that they need to give Wuk Lamat the Lyse treatment and relegate her to cameo roles only going forward. We need more Erenville and Krile. Lots more. I hope those two get the focus in the 7.x patch series.
#19 Is Ketenramm (just spelled wrong), and I'm glad he ranks so low. He really should have died, I don't know in what universe being slashed from behind counts as being "knocked out". If you lose consciousness from a slash, it's because you've lost a lethal amount of blood, not because your head got bumped and you wake up hours later. 100% guarantee he would've been rated higher if he died.
And why would Zoraal Ja leave him alive anyway? The less witnesses to his scheme the better.
Erinville being the most popular JP character would have nothing to do with his English VA. Unless, did they get a Japanese speaking Icelandic VA?

Does Erenville have an Icelandic accent in the JP dub? My japanese certainly isn't good enough to discern a difference. Edit: It also makes sense that Wuk Lamat wouldn't be a major recurring character given how the story plays out. I think regardless of how popular she was it makes more sense for her to play a role like Raubahn or Aymeric where they show up for certain moments but aren't out adventuring with us. Whereas Erenville certainly could continue to return freely.
The entire expansion was filler episode and they didn't even have the common courtesy of adding a beach episode!
How do so many people like Bakool Ja Ja?!?! He was an easily punchable character throughout the entire story and had no redemption arc! He was really bad... Then all of a sudden he was good...
Krile and Erinville got way too little screen time. Would have been way better story if it focused on Krile trying to find the golden city instead of Naruto from Temu...
because he was at least entertaining to watch, unlike much of the main cast.

While Bakool Ja Ja’s shift was a bit fast, the sheer *character* he has when compared to nearly everyone else is huge.
The sheer imagery of standing in front of a mass grave of your dead siblings and saying you will be the last. It’s so good.
@@sanddry738 the problem is, most of bakool ja jas scenes arent his scenes. except for a few, they mostly are there for wuk lamat.
Honestly krile was done so dirty in this expansion, iirc we were told she was going to play a big role in it but she was relegated to the back ground 95% of the time and the one time she had the spotlight to be something only she could do, it got denied and had to be overtaken by gulool ja...
