Hey everyone, I hope you enjoy taking a look around the beautiful Sandos Caracol Eco Resort. What would your favourite spot at this resort be? Mine were the adults pool, the beach and by the beautiful cenotes!
@Cummins Chaos we did actually, but back in 2013. We really liked it and thought the food was better and definitely had nicer rooms than the one we had. But I did like the property of Sandos better.
@@TheAverageTourist thank you for the quick response. During lunch time do they have lunch shacks set up like they did it grand sunset princess? Or just a building with buffet? Thanks. The price is much cheaper right now for sandos. That's the only reason we're looking at that. Did you stay in the adults only section? Or see the rooms there are they nice?
@Cummins Chaos they had a snack bar by the main pool or the Select Club lunch restaurant for adults only or the buffet. Snacks were limited at the snack bar when we were there, but it was nachos, hotdogs and hamburgers, and different fried foods each day. There was no fruit at the snack bar when we were there. And we stayed in the Royal Elite rooms by the main pool. They weren't very nice and we had access to the adult restaurant and pool.
We are considering this resort. However, on google reviews, there seem to be complaints that the beach was "ROCKY". What was your experience there? I didn't see a rocky shoreline in your video - wondering if the rocks are only exposed when out in the water? Can you let me know please?
This was the first resort I ever been too and it made me fall in love with Mexico. I went back in 2015 when the hotels looked different and the water park was just being built. I was around 11 years old and im going back again this year during my 19th bday 🇲🇽💙
This resort has it all! It seems like there’s something to suit everyone; fun, adventure, shopping, relaxation, beaches, animals and an adult only section too is always a nice option at big resorts. Love that there’s even cenotes to visit within the resort too!
Seems like an amazing resort, watching this video makes us realize how much we miss a resort holiday. Can't believe it took you longer than a day to travel the entire resort!
Would you recommend this resort ? I read some reviews on tripadvisor and alot of them were negative. Like long wait checking in and out, lukewarm water in shower, difficult to make à la carte réservation (have to make them at midnight on the app), food not good at all…. I love how it looks like it’s surrounded by a jungle
I wouldn't personally return. But I did enjoy elements of it. The food was just ok, nothing special, but the Select Club or adults only section had much better food than the buffet and most a la carte restaurants. I did like the pools and that there were a few options and an adults only pool. The beach area was nice, not too much seaweed on our visit. The entertainment was pretty good. And the property was beautiful. I did love the property and jungle and walking paths. It really depends on your travel preferences. If you saw my room tour, you'd know we didn't like our room and thought it was pretty grimy. Overall, I think this is for families with kids or lower budget expectations from a resort.
@@TheAverageTourist thank you for your honest answer. I just watched another video (more recent one about 3 months ago) and the UA-camr strongly did not recommend this resort. So it’s off my list now. Too bad tho cause it looks wonderful especially all the trails, cenote, the animals…. He showed a clip of the beach and it looked awful
Talk about a place that is everything and a bag of chips. Wow this place looks awesome. I'd love to stay here and commute with the nature that surrounds this resort. So many animals. The surrounding forest area is gorgeous. I so want to experience a Cenote.
God I absolutely missed this holiday went when I was 8, I remember I dived into the shallow section of the activity pool and got a black eye🤣🤣 So many memories from this holiday
Can’t believe how big this resort is! It’s so beautiful! Can’t believe it’s also got it’s own app, very cool! I like the adults only sections, the wildlife sanctuaries and wow...even cenotes in the resort 🤩 The colour of the water is amazing 💙💚 so cool that you had the suspension bridge to yourself! The river cruise is so romantic and beautiful! Wait...there’s even a water park?!? Great tour of the resort!
Glad it could be helpful! Yes you can take a tour to one of the ruins, or to an off resort cenote, or even a boating tour/catamaran. You can also take a cab into Playa del Carmen to go shopping and explore around the city.
Thank you for this great and thorough tour! Our family is so excited to visit here in 4 months. I wonder if you can answer a few questions for me... 1 - were all the restaurants open, and were you able to get all the reservations you wanted? 2 - how were the mosquitos? 3 - when you say "adult only"... does that require a special band? or, just no kids? (did you stay in the adult area?) 4 - did you find friendly, engaging staff?? did you feel like there was enough staff? Thanks for your help!
All of the restaurants were open, but a few opened mid week when we were there. We were able to get reservations every night no issue, but we did make our reservations the first night we arrived for the whole week. Mosquitoes were pretty bad especially in the cenote and jungle areas. By the pools and ocean they were fine. We had select club bracelets so that's that's the adults only section. I think you need the bracelet to use the facilities in the Select club areas but I'm not 100% certain. We stayed in Building 5 which was technically a Royal Elite building. It felt like there was enough staff everywhere except the reception and snack bar. They were all very friendly though!
Ahh this resort is huge and beautiful! I love that there are cenotes on the property 😍 we would really enjoy walking around all of the paths. Aww and there were animal sanctuaries too! A suspension bridge? This tour just keeps getting better 😀
Oh wow! This one is really huge! Lot's to do. I love that there are restaurants to choose from. The sports bar looks nice. Those fishes in the river are massive :) Cool that they have adults-only facilities :) Oh, I love the petting Zoo. It's so fun to feed animals :) Look at those cute donkeys! Such a diversity of pools! That's great that there is an app with a map for this resort. It would be easy to get lost there, haha :) Thanks for the tour! Cenote Cristalino looks great to me :)
Thank you for this amazing tour !!! We’re going in April. May I ask how Many minutes it takes from the Family section of the rooms to the beach ? Thank you again, Kim from Quebec City.
I just discovered your very informative videos. As we are planning to go to this resort shortly, I am so thankful for being able to watch these. One of the important decisions that we must make is whether to upgrade or not. With a standard room and price are you restricted as to which restaurants you can eat at? Do you think that upgrating would be worth the money? We are seniors by the way. We enjoy birds, wildlife and exploring. Thanks
Thanks for the video , very insightful. Do you know the budling or room name that you guys requested was ? I love how close it is to pool/beach. Thank you.
We're looking at booking this place and this was so helpful! Did you end up with the Select Club or Standard/Family Room when you booked? Wondering if the upgrade is worth it (not going for Elite Club though!)
We upgraded to Select Club and it was absolutely worth it for us. However they gave us a Royal Elite room (the adult pool was closed for maintenance for the first half of our week) and I think from what I saw the rooms in the family section and adults only section would have been nicer.
How nice that your room had such easy pool access. That looks so relaxing! What a super nice resort! Loved the romantic boat cruise and the water slides. I like the idea of an all-inclusive but I don't think we would take full advantage of it because we like to go out to explore the city too. We'll have to give it a try one day though!
cool video , i have a question when its a ALL INCLUSIVE resort is all the food and drinks free???? as in i can eat/drink as much as i can or is there a limit...............ive never been to a all inclusive before so im doing my research
Thank you for the video! I have a few questions: How accessible is the resort for someone who is not very mobile? I.e in a wheelchair or using a walker/cane? How was the food in the restaurants? You mentioned the snack bar wasn’t much to brag about but how about the others?
Did you ever get a reply? My wife is also wheelchair bound. My daughter is getting married at this place. So I was wondering if you went or received a reply.
I’m wondering the same! Wanting to book, but need to know how I’d get around, not being able to walk very far, without a cane, and sometimes a wheelchair. I’m hoping we get an answer soon.
Hello, we are heading to the resort for our honeymoon in January. I am wondering if we need to bring our own snorkel mask sets or if they are provided fir use in the Cenotes. Also did it cost to use the kayaks or any of the on property activities? Do you know if they have a laundry facility we can wash our clothes at? Last question lol, do they offer currency exchange at the resort? Everything looks so beautiful, thanks for the great video and the suggestion to add their app for the map is great!
Hi! I went here a few years ago and it was amazing, so great choice for your honeymoon. They do have a currency exchange and a laundry facility. However, you do have to pay for the laundry. I believe they did have snorkel mask sets but I'm not sure. You'd have to ask that to them to be sure. Have fun!
Hi, great video, resort looks amazing, I stayed in occidental at xcaret so looking for something similar again. This looks like the spot. Is there an extra charge on the water park? Going with teenagers, they probably be here everyday.
Hi, really enjoyed your tour. I'm confused as to the difference between Royal Elite and Select Club when it comes to restaurants. Do you know if Select Club guests can dine at every restaurant except Los Lirios? Also, I've heard there is no adults only option for dinner. Do you know if that is true? Thank you!
I believe that the Royal Elite is a timeshare/membership kind of program. So they get to eat at all of the same restaurants as regular guests, but also have the Los Lirios restaurant for breakfast and lunch and a private pool. Select Club can dine everywhere - but not at Los Lirios for breakfast or lunch - that's only for RE.
We didn't take any specifically to go to Mexico. And yes they have lots of mosquitoes especially if it's rainy and hot... this resort has a lot of foliage and jungle areas so bring heavy duty mosquito repellent.
Lots of wildlife here... hows booking for excursions like snorkeling? Restaurants reservation? Hows the show ? Every night ? Is the kids allowed in river tour? Is the water park included as well? Thank you :)
So much great wildlife! Booking excursions is super easy there are 2 spots on the resort where they sell them, by guest services in the lobby and by the sports bar area. Water park is included. Kids not permitted on river boat tour. Reservations for dinner are made at guest services any time but I recommend doing them all at once as soon as you check in.
Yes it does cost extra for the adults only/select club. We stayed in the Royal Elite building, and I think aside from the convenient location I would suggest the adults only/select club rooms by the adults pool. They seem to be updated.
Hey I'm going there in March and wondering if they offer any fish or shrimp food at Los lirios resturant as we don't eat meat cause online the menu says they do.
Hello, are the cenote, bikes, water park and restaurants included or are there additional charges or requirements to be higher status to get reservations?
They were all included as part of the all inclusive package. If you wanted to eat at the Los Lirios restaurant for breakfast and lunch you needed to be staying the the Royal Elite category.
@Jessica Garcia I haven't been tobthe Barcelos unfortunately. It depends what you'll preferences are. I didn't find the food to be great here and our room was very dated and dingy. But I hear there are nicer rooms. The resort property and amenities were really nice with lots to do.
Is it possible to upgrade to the select club when you are there (we are both in our 20s) and have already booked without the select club. If so how much is it to upgrade, can’t find anything online. Cheers
I don't recall how much it would be but you can upgrade on site pending availability/capacity. We "upgraded" to a royal elite room. Though I would say the only upgrade about it was the location.
Was any of the hotel wheelchair accessible? I have been recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. We didn’t want to cancel the holiday for the kids. I’m now worrying I won’t be able to keep up x
The pathways are mostly accessible from my memory and the golf carts drive around using them as well. There are ramps to get into the various buildings and restaurants, but you will need a ground floor room as there are only stairs to the second and third floors.
@@TheAverageTourist thank you for replying, as it was an older post I wasn’t sure if u would. I have emailed the hotel to advise them of my condition and hope they accommodate us. We have been notified there will be light construction to update some rooms but it won’t impact our holiday. Let’s see how this goes haha thanks again. Stacey
You could definitely get turned around - but there's usually someone around to point you in the right direction and there are maps everywhere. I felt safe at this resort.
Thanks! Tipping at the bars doesn't seem expected, but at the restaurants it's more common. We personally tipped when we had good service and to the bar tenders/drink servers we went to often.
There weren't any extra costs unless you wanted to go to the spa or use those facilities. The cenote swimming and water park were all included on our visit. And the river boat ride, but recommended to tip the boat operator.
Overall we made do. The Select Club and a few of the a la cartes were good and that covered us for breakfast, lunch and most dinners. And now that they are through the pandemic the food might even be better than when we went and they were having supply chain shortages.
Masks were required when you were walking around the restaurants and buffets but not when seated. You also needed a mask to go to the bar and order drinks. Otherwise... there is hand sanitizer around
I loved the resort the food was great the pictures do not do justice to what it really looks like. The staff is amazing 🤩 they treated us great the service was fast and everything was clean. The service at the bars was super fast, it is a family friendly place and has many activities I wasn’t able to explore it all I need to go back.
I have a friend who is near there now. This place is big. Do they take you everywhere by cart? The beach looks very welcoming. I like the downloadable map. Those come in handy. The main Cenote looks amazing.
I'm not sure what it was called there was a QR code to download it at the resort. There's also a Sandos app that allows you to check in and links you to the different resort mobile sites.
Great video. We went there 6 years ago and loved it. Are the Covid-19 protocols really strict? Do they make you wear masks everywhere? 😷 Thank you for your response.
Thanks! No they weren't strict on the resort except for in the restaurants, buffet and ordering drinks at the bar. You had to wear a mask. But there was no social distancing really and outdoors everyone was maskless 👌
In general it was fine, but nothing to write home about. We found the Select Club breakfast and lunch to be the best. And Los lirios was good too for dinner.
Hello! I know it has been awhile but by any chance do you remember your room number? My family and I are booked and we'd love to stay close to the pool like you did. Thanks!
Depends what you like. I think Xcaret was much better for my travel style. The rooms were newer, food was better, and activities were included off the resort. But the price is way higher than Sandos.
Thank you! Yeah the beach is definitely rocky and while we were there we noticed quote a bit of seaweed, but they cleaned the beach every day. If you want to go swimming there I'd bring water shoes.
It was good in the adults only restaurant for breakfast and lunch. And most of the a la cartes were good. The buffet was not great, and it was definitely not a resort I'd recommend for foodies. But that being said we always found something to eat.
There's quite a few negative reviews on expedia in relation to this resort. Would you say they're mostly not true? Apparently food is bad, and there are lots of unkept/derelict areas. Thanks!
I didn't love the food when we were there. However it was during the pandemic (October 2021) so it may have gotten better. We found a lot of families were eating in and around the main pool so there was some gross soggy food floating around some days and our room was awful. But the grounds were quite nice and we really liked the adult pool area.
Sandos caracol is full of fun activities full of nature and foliage and cenotes. But don’t be fooled they are not what you think. If your American then you’ll probably get a ok treatment but if your national your for a treat. The ride to your room in the golf cart is one of the few things I liked at this resort. The food in the all inclusive is umm 🧐 were can I start it’s awful as well as the snack bar and room service will make you miss McDonalds Big Mac for sure, it’s mediocre at best. The swimming area is always full of food and little critters jumping on your table trying to steal your food, I let them have it they seem to love it😅 the beach OMG not in a good way. Your in for a treat as well with the beach area. Man I wish I had done more research. My best recommendation is to stay away for sandos caracol not worth your time and money. I have to say my next trip will be in the beautiful island of Cozumel thats called intercontinental presidential Cozumel that’s what a call 5⭐️hotel. Good luck
Thank you. I have looked at so many resorts and then look at reviews to find they have dolphins. I hate seeing them in captivity. We are looking at booking this resort for maybe the month of June. We prefer quiet. Not sure if this resort is quiet and if thats a good month to visit x

Really helpful!
Thanks!
Very informative video! How was the food? Subscribed!
Hey
I'm going there in March and wondering if they offer any fish or shrimp food at Los lirios resturant as we don't eat meat cause online the menu says they do.
They had fish options but we didn't try any.
If you’ve been to Barcelos occidental xcaret and you had to choose between the two Sandos or occidental which would it be and why?
@Jessica Garcia I haven't been tobthe Barcelos unfortunately. It depends what you'll preferences are. I didn't find the food to be great here and our room was very dated and dingy. But I hear there are nicer rooms. The resort property and amenities were really nice with lots to do.
Hello, I have a question, how was the beach at the resort, I heard you need to wear water shoes, it’s that right ??
I would recommend water shoes
What time of the year was it when you guys were there ? I’m thinking to go around march..
We were there at the beginning of October.
Love this 😍 how was the Beach?
I am french what is select club ? Its for only people adult in hôtel ? Its a free service ? I dont understand
Hello bike rentals in the hôtel is free or i need to pay ? Thanks
That’s perfect, fingers crossed they have availability. Thank you👍🏼
Looks like a nice resort to stay at.
Stacey
You mentioned an app for the resort in this video or the food video. What is the app?
There was a qr code to scan at the hotel.
How is the safety there and is there any chance of getting lost and not being able to find your room since the place is soo massive?
You could definitely get turned around - but there's usually someone around to point you in the right direction and there are maps everywhere. I felt safe at this resort.
Thank you so much! This video was helpful! Did you book this trip through a travel agency? If so, do you mind naming it?
Yes, me! Lol I'm a travel agent
Great video. Is tipping expected at the bars and a la carte restaurants?
Thanks! Tipping at the bars doesn't seem expected, but at the restaurants it's more common. We personally tipped when we had good service and to the bar tenders/drink servers we went to often.
What are the extras? Is there a cost for any of the resort activities?
There weren't any extra costs unless you wanted to go to the spa or use those facilities. The cenote swimming and water park were all included on our visit. And the river boat ride, but recommended to tip the boat operator.
Was any transportation inside the resort, asking because the other resorts from the same chain "Sandos Caracol" has transportation inside the resort.
There were golf carts to go to the RE section and to deliver bags/pick up. But it wasn't an official shuttle or anything like that running.
And Overall How was the food ?
Overall we made do. The Select Club and a few of the a la cartes were good and that covered us for breakfast, lunch and most dinners. And now that they are through the pandemic the food might even be better than when we went and they were having supply chain shortages.
What do people with mobility issues do around the resort?
There are paved pathways and little ramps to get around. Or golf carts if you can flag down a ride
Hello, how are the security measures for COVID. I'll go with my baby but I'm a little worried about that situation. What can you tell me about that?
Masks were required when you were walking around the restaurants and buffets but not when seated. You also needed a mask to go to the bar and order drinks. Otherwise... there is hand sanitizer around
Last beach with the sunset is at the resort ?
Yep, right by the beach bar.
Any idea if there was any child-minding services available? So that parents get away for a bit without having to worry about the littles.
What is the name of the special resort app?
Is their a club or disco in the resort?
I loved the resort the food was great the pictures do not do justice to what it really looks like. The staff is amazing 🤩 they treated us great the service was fast and everything was clean. The service at the bars was super fast, it is a family friendly place and has many activities I wasn’t able to explore it all I need to go back.
I have a friend who is near there now. This place is big. Do they take you everywhere by cart? The beach looks very welcoming. I like the downloadable map. Those come in handy. The main Cenote looks amazing.
No you have to walk. You can get the occasional ride if you flag someone down. But primarily only luggage pick up and drop off for check in and out.
Do you remember if there were bike rentals for children as well?
Yes there were smaller bikes available not for toddler age though. Some had seats for adults to peddle young kids with them.
Hello! Great video! I’m coming in 1 month :) what is the app ?
I'm not sure what it was called there was a QR code to download it at the resort. There's also a Sandos app that allows you to check in and links you to the different resort mobile sites.
very helpful. thank u. next time, allen should go on the rides with you. with peace and love
Happy it was helpful. Yes I'll try to convince him next time!
HI5 buddy, good vID!
how was the food in general?
In general it was fine, but nothing to write home about. We found the Select Club breakfast and lunch to be the best. And Los lirios was good too for dinner.
what resorts are next to the resort
The Fives is next door on one side and then a smaller hotel on the other.
Hello! I know it has been awhile but by any chance do you remember your room number? My family and I are booked and we'd love to stay close to the pool like you did. Thanks!
It was 503 I believe. I did a room tour - it wasn't the nicest room but a good location.
How was the beach? Is it swimmable?
Not at all. Gross seaweed and rocky
It was pretty rocky and the seaweed wasn't too bad but there was still quite a bit.
Is this resort better than Xcaret Mexico ?
Depends what you like. I think Xcaret was much better for my travel style. The rooms were newer, food was better, and activities were included off the resort. But the price is way higher than Sandos.
Well done video! what do you think of the beach quality- I have heard it gets a lot of seaweed and pretty rocky...is that true?
Thank you! Yeah the beach is definitely rocky and while we were there we noticed quote a bit of seaweed, but they cleaned the beach every day. If you want to go swimming there I'd bring water shoes.
specifically in that hotel because there I have my reservation
Might be going there in summer but do your have to wear masks
Why would u not show a glimpse of the rooms??? They are what I'm most skeptical about, judging from the pictures on the internet.
I did a whole video on my room... check out my sandos Playlist 👌
How was the food?
It was good in the adults only restaurant for breakfast and lunch. And most of the a la cartes were good. The buffet was not great, and it was definitely not a resort I'd recommend for foodies. But that being said we always found something to eat.
@@TheAverageTourist thanks for the response!
And the rooms?
Separate video showing our room
I was looking to get married here, but one of the travel agents said they can be difficult to work with large
groups.
Im such a good resort
There's quite a few negative reviews on expedia in relation to this resort. Would you say they're mostly not true? Apparently food is bad, and there are lots of unkept/derelict areas. Thanks!
I didn't love the food when we were there. However it was during the pandemic (October 2021) so it may have gotten better. We found a lot of families were eating in and around the main pool so there was some gross soggy food floating around some days and our room was awful. But the grounds were quite nice and we really liked the adult pool area.
thanks ¡
Ok. Am I the only one who saw the random animal crawling under the map in the beginning when she was talking??? LOL!!!
Those guys were everywhere!!
You have to take a covid test?
We did when we went during the pandemic.
Good luck
I am looking for a resort that DOESN’T have dolphins. Am I right in thinking that this one doesn’t?
Correct. There are no dolphin habitats on the property.
Thank you. I have looked at so many resorts and then look at reviews to find they have dolphins. I hate seeing them in captivity. We are looking at booking this resort for maybe the month of June. We prefer quiet. Not sure if this resort is quiet and if thats a good month to visit x
We went in October and it wasn't too busy/noisy.
Capybaras?
