I was a commuter student for 3 years since it was only 30 minutes away and i saved a lot of money with tuition. However, my uni recently closed down so I have transferred to another school that is a little over an hour away so I'll be living on campus. I totally agree with your cons. You lug a bunch of things just to last the day, I would carry around a lunch box, laptop, headphones, books (textbooks & reading book). I ended up developing a herniated disc from the heavy backpack. I barely made friends because once I was done with classes, I drove home so I never participated in the activities they provided on campus, especially if they were at night. So I am excited to get the actual college experience that comes with living in dorms. Thank gosh, I'll be living in the apartment style dorms, so I share the apartment, but have my individual room. Im super introverted and alone time is so important for me.
I'm in the same boat as you being an only child...... but I lived in a dorm my freshman year (only)! Not a pleasant experience, but it was also because my roommate and I were random and didn't share the same ideals and morals. It really jus depends on the type of person you are!! Pros and cons to both, definitely.

Only child life!! I'm currently an RA and junior in college so I live alone in a room large enough for two people, but my freshman year I had to live with a roommate. It was definitely an adjustment as I truly value my alone time. If I wasn't an RA, I definitely would live off campus :) Great video!

I will like to add to what u said about many people who get meal plans and live off campus dont end up using it caz they are not there to use it
If you do a major like architecture that require u to be in studio or on campus for long it comes in helpful
But for me I still wouldn't get it because I'm jamaican and I dont like American food that much
So also take into consideration if you are an international student or an immigrant.. u might prefer to cook for yourself
And if u spend time doing architecture, art, graphic design etc. u might end up being on campus alot longer than other commuters
For architecture I was on campus from 8am to 9pm during the week plus weekends and holidays

Hi Allison! One of the cons you mentioned was not having an immediate community if you live off campus. I really wanna live in an off campus apartment, so do you think I would still make friends if I joined clubs and stuff on campus? Thank you!
Sofi Herrera hey! I'm going into my last year of college and I would say if you put yourself out there in clubs and really searching friendship it won't be that hard! Just don't be afraid to put your self out there or invite people to do things!

ThegamingChild same. But I’m thinking of living off campus so I can have my dog with me and get used to being alone. Plus I do not like sharing a room with anyone. I’m too much of a “loner” to have someone around me like that all the time. I think it’s better to live off campus. Plus you don’t have to share a bathroom. I’m a freshman in high school but as always I’m worrying too much about my future 😹😹😹
