Anyone else here in 2021 and still learning from this man? I had no idea he passed years ago, let alone in a motorcycle accident which really struck a chord with me since I'm an avid rider. Ride in Paradise!
Love your videos! Consider using a chisel tip on connections with that much solder. The larger tip acts as a heatsink to prevent fluctuations in temp from the heating element to the solder work. edit: also consider popping out and switching the balance leads to get brown to be ground in order to know 100% which side is ground in the future
Thanks dude, it worked for me. I am so glad I saved this awesome 1500mah LiHV 6S. The only difference, the balance lead solder point was so hard to melt, my soldering iron kept dropping temperature and I ended up solder-repairing the cable itself.
Agreed. I always worry about apply hot air to shrink the shrinkwrap. Does this ever damage the lipo? Would you do this to a puffed lipo? I presume that you wouldn't try it at all if there is some puffiness... would really like your opinion though.
That was so helpful!!! And I think your video is the only one of its kind on UA-cam! You explained everything so perfectly and why you did other things. It couldn’t have been any better! Thank you
You can stretch shrink tubing bigger before shrinkiing it . Needle nose pliers stuck into small tubing and then spread the handles . That will fit over an sma antenna connection.
More great content, thanks. Just one suggestion, when you said "blow hot air" down the heat shrink to get the condensation so that I will slide, maybe you want to clarify for others that you are breathing hot air from your mouth as opposed to using a hot air gun or something. Just thought it could potentially catch someone out 😉
This is a very excellent educational vid on the construction of these batteries... they're expensive enough that I wouldn't consider cutting the heat shrink off the packs at all, but this broke things down very well!
that red or brown is the ground? so why is it connected to the positive lead? that red and brown is the hot the blacks are the ground or the fallowing positive on the next battery. That red is the positive lead wire and the fallowing wires are all in black cause they are connected in series and also act as ground in the batteries connection sequence.
I have a 3s lipo 2700mah battery - when I put it on the charger it appears to get a full and balanced charge. when I test it on a battery checker using the balance plug - nothing shows up - completely blank if I test it using a esc / motor tester using the ec3 plug all appears well. I've tried several different battery checkers that all work on other batteries - so that's not the problem. It seems to be a fault with the balance plug somehow - why it works when charging and not with a battery checker I don't know. I think the battery would be safe to fly with on my rc plane since the balance lead is not in use when flying but I don't have full confidence in the battery since I can't check the charge with a regular battery checker. What can the problem be ?
Definitely do make another for all the guys still curious. Only thing I did different was use a table vise to gently hold the motor in place while I tapped the bearings out with a punch.
RIP bro. I'm sure your looking down from heaven and thinking that you should have told everyone to tape off the solder joints that weren't being worked on, and to use flux for that last stubborn balance lead joint.
my wires got chewed up in the spur gear and ripped in half. How do I know which wire connects to which port on the balance plug? And do I need to use solder or can I just wrap the wires round each other, since there's very little current running through them?
i been rebuilding lipo's for 5 years this very amazing video instead of markers on top of the shrink i right down the info on paper can cover it with cleartape on the cell before i do shrink on the battery wow dident think anyone else would think use hot glue under main leads great mind think the same thats awsome aswome
you've burn the brown wire a lill bit. but I've got a question. I've got 2 battery types ( 2cells). both with different colours at the balance ports. does it matter witch colour the cables have? 1 battery: 2 reds 1black 2 battery: 1 red 2blacks till now I've only charge battery 1. can I charge them both without worries? thanks for your help
when i make 18650 packs i use my cheap 40 watt weller with this almost solder tip for soldering stained glass just the small tips dont hold heat to well
Kinda related question, is there a downside in using 12AWG (too thick?) battery pigtail in my quads , I fly 4S 30A blheli_s , emax 2205S 2600kv. Thanks
@David i have a drawer full of those lol, keep telling myself that they will totally be useful for something one day whaha. in any case it'll def be a let's-not-do-this-indoors operation. stay safe 😁
Use your phone to take a picture of the lead layout before you take everything off. Now you have a reference. That goes for anything I'm doing. Especially flight controller wiring (Don't have to reinvent the wheel and figure it out from scratch that way.)
Hay man so I have a venom 2cell 30c 5000mah lipo in a hard case and I opened the case because my power wires and balance wires are damaged and I really need someone to fix them and you do a really good job. So I was wondering if you could help me out with this. I'd even pay ya and ship it to you and pay for return shipping I don't want to spend another 54.00 in another lipo. Do you think you could help me out?
Still learning from this Man . RIP.
very sad
What happened to him?
what???
Wow it’s been almost 2 years since his passing and I still find his videos relevant and helpful! Thank you J.D.

always hits hard when you google something and a project blue falcon vid is the first thing that shows up.

If you are making a new battery , what can you use for wrapping around the pack

Yeah, I was wondering where the condensation came from, that makes sense now lol.
This is a very excellent educational vid on the construction of these batteries... they're expensive enough that I wouldn't consider cutting the heat shrink off the packs at all, but this broke things down very well!
You can 'wet' any contacts that don't soften quickly with a flux pen. Great video to save batteries which have lead damage only.
OMG just found out he passed away how sad. RIP bro you'll be so missed
It is better to swap brown and red wire to have red on positive balance lead !!!
I am so gutted you are no longer with us rip Jc

Great vid man ty! I just replaced all the bearings on my Emax Rs2205 motors using your method from your old channel and it went well, too!

There's no downside. But if your battery leads are 14ga then its not needed. If they are 12ga then its fine.
Damn...I think I'd like like to hear the story of the exploding battery. Sounds intense.
Yes please. Tell us about the explosion.

Miss you buddy...
If you want to replace your t to a xt60 why not just remove the t instead of all the wires? Why replace balance leads that are good?
Maybe as a demo for us
Very dangerous situation....your positive balance lead had the insulation melted down to the wire exactly where the next terminal is
