- Not sure why this is called a Pineapple twist, just has been as long as I can remember!
Made from 5/8" square but can be any size.
This is my first video with the new HD camcorder, definitely see the difference.... #GaryHuston #Blacksmithing #Farrier #ASMR #Horseshoeing #Fabrication #Ironwork #Hoofcare #welder #repairs #horse #farriery #engineering - Розваги
At such high temps the surface of the iron oxidizes extremely quickly and flakes off as the metal is being worked. As Gary said, it is called scale.
Btw, Gary, thank you very much for this video! I tinkered a little with blacksmithing several years ago and just got back into the smithy today for the first time in around 5 years or so. I will be attempting this for the handle of my next rail road spike knife.
Looks good.
Again Thanks Gary
COOL video! thanks for sharing!!!
I have been watching various vids on Blacksmithing, but never found one which shows a person how to skilfully make decorative patterns as you do. Cheers.
Man, nice job. Thanks for the demo.
Very nice. I agree that with the end done as ball (or other shape) would make a very good looking handle.
That was awesome.
Thats more than a Decoration, A knife handle with this would be excellent, great taction for gloves and tools handles. thanks for the video that looks amazing.
This is probably the best tutorial of a pineapple twist I have seen on video. Well done sir.
Simple, yet look beautiful! Thank you!
WOW thanks for showing this
I love this. It looks so cool. I've never seen this anywhere else. That's why I watch this channel. I never know what rabbit you're going to pull out of your hat.
Love it... Great vid.

Very nice video, thank you for sharing. I can't wait to try this.
pretty awesome! The video was great, too, I felt well informed from it.
Most beautiful twist i've seen!
Great video Gary, I do enjoy your work and this wasn't what I was expecting. I thought you were doing a basket but I really like this for a nice handle, thanks again.
Gary, very nice tutorial. Thank you very much. Nicely done. I have a large wooden mallet and a block of wood that I use for straightening all my twists.
Very cool! Thank you for the tutorial.
I'll have to try this one soon! Thanks for sharing
That is so clever. Thank you for another great video. You explain really well
amazing work, such a beautiful effect. Never seen it before, I
want pineapple twists everywhere now
Very nice, great looking.
wow very nice ty for sharing
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
This looks incredible, Once I start getting decent if I can get this technique somewhere near what you are showing here I know I will be using it often in any decorative pieces I do for friends. Thanks for sharing the knowledge
That is illegaly cool!!! Really outstanding trick. I imagine that on a knife handle or other projects. Thank you a million! Great work, great skills thanks again for sharing.
Very nice. And egregious endeavour would be to make a flatware set with that handle design.
@garyhuston its where you cut notches on the corners of the stock and twist it,then it seperates and its called a cube twist
This is awesome! I'm going to try this
thats awsome i love that it look great thanks fo sharing that with us all
Thanks!
that is beautiful!
that came out nice. good job
No, not all the way through, just a couple of mm will do. Glad you like the channel.
Amazing
its called a pineapple twist because it looks some what like the skin of a pineapple when completed you did a fine job!
@garyhuston With the cubed twist, you just cut a center line much like what is done
with the pineapple twist but instead of twisting it, just take your
chisel and cut a groove every 1/4" on two opposite corners. After you get done cutting all of the
slits then you can go ahead and twist it however many times you want to.
I usually only do a half twist or full
good idea...thanks...
muy bonita figura y que sencillo es hacerla, claro después de ver el vídeo, porque antes de verlo no sabría como fue realizado. gracias.
@SoftwareCommercials Sorry, I'm being really dumb, still not really got it, can't find the picture!
very intresting thank you :)
Excelente lo voy a intentar!
Looks really cool and like it would be good for gripping!
@SoftwareCommercials i also heard it called a spiral/step twist because they look like steps when twisted accurately and properly.but yes a bunch of litte "cubes" staggered
nice!
I DO THE PINEAPPLE TWIST ON MY KNIVES BUT THEY DONT LOOK THAT GOOD , GRET JOB SIR
Sweet!!
That looks great, their are jig that can make it a lot easier on you like a chain a cross the anvil it keeps the stock from jumping.
muchas gracias por mostrar tu arte, voy a intentar hacerlo
nice info
@SoftwareCommercials What does a cube twist look like? Never heard of it before...
Not only is it beautiful but functional as well, very nice work! :)
I can see why you would call it a pineapple twist
Probably a blacksmiths supply company, I got mine from a local secondhand machinery dealer 30 years ago!
Pineapple twist Damascus
wow....that old boaster chisel is awsome, they dont make em like that anymore........id say the pineapple design is called...such, because it has the same natural fibonachie sequence....nice job.
Hi just wondering would it be better to use a soft face hammer like lead or brass when using a chisel like this?
Onur Caglar No, you would end up ruining the hammer.
Brilliant thanks for the advice garyhuston if you want please check out my smithing video although it is a fail. Deffo learning from your videos.
Its a better idea to use a sacrificial steel hammer when using chisels or punches. I use an oil drilling hammer.
+Hot Iron Art why, hammers are meant for hitting things.
What fuel are you using? What is the regulator for?
I did a small stainless steel knife with this handle in one of my other videos.
thanks for the great vidi!
i was just wondering, you dont slice all the way through like a basket? just an indentation befor the first twist? or am i miss understanding. sorry. just not sure,
very happy i stumbled across your channel! extremely useful stuff. knowledge is key
thanks
It's called a pineapple twist because it looks like a pineapple.
Good job, though. I always loved this twist, even more than the basket twist.
I actually used this as crosspiece for a large camp knife. It looks really cool.
Photos, video?!
garyhuston
¡Great!
genial!!!!! capo!!
Beautiful. Is the chisel hand-forged or store-bought? Largest one I can find is a brick setters chisel, and the steel isn't very good on it.
cool
Well I see you write proper russian. Anyway, very nice job, im not in to forging or stuff like that but i really like this idea. Looks very good. Ill definitely have forging shop when I retire some day haha
That is amazing!! Wow!! How would you do this if you wanted to make the pattern go say, 2 feet of the length of bar??
Perfect, what about a cube twist?
I could do this twist on one of a railroad spike knife handle, thanks for the info :)
Claim: use the pineapple or the 'decorative twist' for a knife handle.I know about the bad balance but will be a beautyful decorative knife.
nice handle for something or fence top
could you do a video on how to do a cotton mouth knife handle? i cannot find an instruction video on how to do this anywhere. many thanks
It Becomes very xdifficult to concentrate on your video when thres anvil nois in the background and I like you vids
Very sorry, had another vid in background playing on another TAB.😁
Bellisimo
@garyhuston The best explanation I can find is this youtube video
Forging a Fireplace Tool Handle.mpg so if you search that you can see.
wow
That is fucking cool
Можете вы спросить этот вопрос на английском языке?
I get mine from a steel supply company in 20 foot lengths....
where do you got that big chisel from?
very nice work btw :)
The local hardware store it's just an ordinary bolster.
Called a masonry chisel in US.
Iron oxide then... why I didn't find it out by myself? Thank you guys :)
That ahs falling down from iron while you were forgeing is that carbon? Or maybe pollution from metal?
now do it on a foot long taper...
that shit gets wild
Just a store bought 4" bolster..
Well done, honestly. But, is it just me or do those hands not fit the voice in the video?
can any one help me???? I built a forge I got the info. on the internet and I can get my steel now to an orange color I need to get it white or wheat,,,,,, but some times my forge flame will spit and sputter can any help me with this problem my regulator goes to 60 pounds so I could sure need some help??????? thanks and keep pounding
sweet anvil.
Suckers are sure expensive.
They are but what other major tool in the shop lasts your entire life and probably the next generation as well!
Scale.
Я понятия не имею, что Вы говорите
It's called a pineapple twist because pineapple skin has raised diamond shapes just like that.
Kaitlin Grey no shit huh? 🤔
Все еще никакая идея, о чем Вы идете!!
