No... No... you spend real money to get a "reward chest" that has the potential to give you anything from 10 more seconds to a new hat or color swap for your character, etc. It only lasts for that one round, though.
doesn't seem like a bad game, but the art style combined with the gimmick doesn't seem all that appealing to me. kudos on the developer for being creative, though.
Hm seems like a bit of a balancing act, I could see that mechanic getting extremely frustrating if handled less than ideally later. Worth a look probably.
Jim, i just wanted to thank you for showing us all the interesting games good and bad, to help the gems shine in the cesspool that is the indie, so that we ourselves can experience something we may have never seen, your a true ster, thank god for you!
Devolver Digital - In addition to having one of the, if not the, best awards show presentations, I really like the games they publish - even when I don't exactly like them.
I've purchased it yesterday, almost as soon as it was available, then I beated it in less than two hours. HOWEVER, the game has a New Game + mode which increases the difficulty A LOT, from changing some critical elements of the world map to... well, something *else* I don't want to spoil. So it's nice to see there's more game after the game is finished.
Devolver Digital has such a good eye for up and coming indie studios. A concise, well executed vision is all I ask for, and they rarely fail to deliver.
I think a neat little feature to make this game better would be to leave corpses of your past lives on the screen. Trying to squeeze as much as possible in the time limit is giving me flashbacks to Majoras Mask. There's nothing more satisfying than really hitting your stride on a run and nailing 3 or 4 challenges in a single run.
This game gave me stress flashbacks to Majora's Mask, and that game gave you 3 (in game) days to play with (whose progress could be ocarina-manipulated).
It's worth mentioning also that this game is also available on itch and GoG if you're like me and prefer not to have to boot up steam to play a game, or want to keep an installer around in case of a broken update.
It's a shame about how cellphone games turned out... Stigma and all that. I was there with you in spirit when you were optimistic for phones becoming a great platform... I say this because, while I'm def going to buy this anyway, I'd pay a little extra to have this on my phone because it'd be PERFECT for my 15 min breaks at work.
@Jim Sterling I don't know if you take game recommendations from youtube comments, but there is a strategy game called Comet Crash 2 on PS4 that's essentially a well polished tower defense RTS. Probably the most polished game in the sub-genre. There is a sizable solo campaign that, personally, gives me similar satisfaction to figuring out puzzles in Portal that do a much better job of showcasing towers and units and their uses than the original game on PS3. Local coop/pvp is good fun, but I still haven't met a soul to really test the online modes. Even if you don't like it, it would at least bring some competition my way and for others that enjoy the game.
How many hours would it take to truly complete the game though? The concept is extraordinarily interesting, and strangely enough, it actually is very reminiscent of Zelda II, since all you do in that game is die, and develop your skills, level up, and acquire items to make the trek back to your next temple as smoothly as possible.
I bought this game to give it a try. I love the idea behind it, I was expecting something similar to the Chromie event in WoW where you need to go and solve a bunch of different larger goals by going in, failing but learning bits and pieces so next time you know where to go, what to do and can shave off time until you complete the larger goal of the area before time runs out, ultamitly working towards a final run where you can overcome all the challenges in a single run by learning and optimizing what you're doing. Unfortunately, the game really didn't feel like that to me. Because they really don't give you any information, and you spend a lot of time bumbling around like you would in a top down zelda game just kind of tinkering with things to find what works, I never really felt that push to stop, plan or approach the game with any real problem solving skills. It just felt like a normal Zelda game that killed you every 60 seconds as a minor inconvenience. Since you keep all your items and upgrades as you go, you never really lose progress, or need to learn from your last run (Aside from locations.) The whole gimmick of the game more or less boils down to you needing to find the most efficient route to get from your spawn location to where you want to explore next, exploring that location until you die.. Respawning, continuing exploring until you find all the things then moving on. Not my jam. :(
Thanks for Jimpressioning this one. Trying to find out if it's worth the 10bucks, especially when I already have Half Minute Hero. I'm not a huge fan of all the Zelda-like games being made lately. :/
This game has a really good price point. It's nice to see individuals in the industry willing to cut a game short when they've run out of ideas and offer it at a reasonable price. Beats the alternative of repetition with the added sting of being too expensive any day.
Another one for the wishlist, thanks Jim. I bought also "Squirm" brilliant! 😁😀 Oh.. when you say PC would it be helpful perhaps to say Windows, Linux etc? My PC runs Linux you see. Anyway both squirm and this are available. 😀
I've bought or added to my wishlist pretty much most of the games you've recommended, I wouldn't have found them on Steam otherwise. Squirm and Squidlit are quite lovely
Wait, isn't there another Zelda-esque game coming out with a similar gimmick? Or was that perma-death? Either way, in that game you also restart at the beginning with the things you've acquired in previous runs.
I love these jimpressions, for these little indie darling games. I don't see the steam cleaner that often any more, i feel like hes been buried by the pile of shit that is steam direct. but his legacy carries on with these and the direct to videos highlighting good games. Also love the little bit about it being a unity game straight away. Great to showcase the better side of Unity. Tl;Dr, Positive Jim, Best Jim!
Will you do a Jimpressions on Super Tony Land? It's a clone of Super Mario Maker that had a successful kickstarter, though I'm not sure it's available for public access yet.
seems interesting but i dont know if its something i want to spend money on, i mean like you said if you like it you might replay it but i find with most puzzle games once you know the answer you only replay it once or twice to see how fast you can do it knowing the proper way
Adding in an arbitrary timer seems to me like to be more like an artificial lengthener since you have unlimited lives. There's no point in thinking strategically about how to spend your time. You could brute force everything, kind of like Jim is doing in the video, and still come out just fine. I mean, I like time limits in games when they're used effectively, but I don't like games wasting my time. That's really what it looks like from the footage shown.
ManOutofTime913 My point was, all games require players to bumble around and learn the systems, before any real thought can occur. Jim's video appears to cover this initial adjustment period, where Minit answers brute-force attempts by saying, "No no, that's not how we do things here. Don't give up, here's a trinket." If I have Minit pegged right, the game will lower its tolerance for such behavior as it continues. I'd like to play a demo to see if it has any neat tricks up its sleeve.
He also said that it was a very short game at least going off other people's information. I'm just saying, something like running to the slow-talking man feels more like busywork to satisfy a gimmick rather than a legitimate gameplay challenge, at least to me. If that's the first impression the game gives me, then I'm not as inclined to give it a chance.
Oh for sure. These kinds of games get one "slow-talking old man" joke, and they're better skipping those altogether. If the game's super short, ah well, not my cup of tea, either.
Ello Jim, I don't have a Twitter account so I'm gonna bug you here. Ever heard of "Crate Creatures"? They're basically U.S. bootleg Boglins - they even come in a barred crate - and their commercial jingle is clearly just a Ghostbusters cover. Just wondering what you thought of that.
so its like half minute hero, but instead of focusing on micro adventures and figuring out how to better use your time, this is moreabout completing short tasks in a minute so you can do something else next time... its almost like majora's mask lite.
'sixty second spurts' (giggle)
DevolverDigital
God damn it. I'm seeing so many dodgy jokes in the comments that I wish I'd thought of myself. That was beautiful, mate.
A representative from the publisher makes a jest about ejaculating and the top comment remains "I like mints".
I'm disappointed with this timeline.
Honestly the thing I am most hyped for at E3 2018 is the Devolver Digital conference. And fingers crossed Jim Sterling is involved!
Whole Minute Hero
was that on 360? I remember a similar game to this.....
no it was on PS vita, plus one minute hero was far better then this black and white game
half minute hero was on 360, I was thinking of that.
Guitar hero
That’s what she said...
Needs an in-game store where you can purchase extra 10 second bonuses for real-world money.
Only if it takes at least eleven seconds to navigate the ingame store for each purchase.
A Real Money Purchase in a Game that is supposed to LENGHTEN playtime, instead of shortening it...? HERESY! BURN HIM!!
No... No... you spend real money to get a "reward chest" that has the potential to give you anything from 10 more seconds to a new hat or color swap for your character, etc. It only lasts for that one round, though.
I fucking love the humor of this game, like that slow talking NPC :D Thanks for bringing this up, Jim!
don't like whole dying and starting all over mechanic though, its like dark souls but on timer like wtf
How is it like Dark Souls?
Nix because you die all the time in that game, I've heard.
Legend of Zelda: The Minit Cap
LybrikVladmir
Wow. That's such a terrible joke. I wish I thought of it.
I lost it at the fish lying on its back saying "Land is the best."
doesn't seem like a bad game, but the art style combined with the gimmick doesn't seem all that appealing to me. kudos on the developer for being creative, though.
Hm seems like a bit of a balancing act, I could see that mechanic getting extremely frustrating if handled less than ideally later. Worth a look probably.
Thank God for Jim Sterling!
Jim, i just wanted to thank you for showing us all the interesting games good and bad, to help the gems shine in the cesspool that is the indie, so that we ourselves can experience something we may have never seen, your a true ster, thank god for you!
Interesting premise, but an entire game built around constant time limits would annoy the crap out of me.
still, I love the concept regardless.
Cute little game. I do appreciate seeing these, Jim. :3
Devolver Digital - In addition to having one of the, if not the, best awards show presentations, I really like the games they publish - even when I don't exactly like them.
I like seeing these otherwise less noticed games seeing the light. Needed now that steam is a digital flea market.
Switch over to GOG. I discovered the game instantly since it's (was?) at the front store !
MegaDimension that sounds decent for the price point
Watering cans are very useful in all situations.
I'm digging the music for that initial overworld area.
Next step!
Can we Pack an rpg into just 10 seconds?
10 seconds? Not yet BUT there is one that has a 30 second limit called Half Minute Hero. It's great
World of Warcraft is on it's way there. Give it another expansion or two and you will just buy a token and beat the game.
Check out Half Minute Hero, like Ashuraman said. There's games that have come close with time limit stuff ;)
It already exists, its called Minesweeper. You play the role of the fool, trying to cross the minefield. And you won't last 10 seconds...
Tales of Credit Scroll
Devolver Digital has such a good eye for up and coming indie studios.
A concise, well executed vision is all I ask for, and they rarely fail to deliver.
I really love hearing about these cute, little, wholesome games that barely anyone knows about.
Good to know their is an audience still. I'm working on a cute little wholesome game
So its like Majora's mask but instead of 3 days its 60 seconds, pretty cool
I think a neat little feature to make this game better would be to leave corpses of your past lives on the screen.
Trying to squeeze as much as possible in the time limit is giving me flashbacks to Majoras Mask. There's nothing more satisfying than really hitting your stride on a run and nailing 3 or 4 challenges in a single run.
I like mints.
You're the top comment... somehow.
I chew Minties.
You're everywhere and always on top comments
I hear "I like mince"
I like tits.
the water is nice and warm here....... described the channel perfectly:)
"We've got a Fleshlight here which, you can probably guess what that's used for"
The Jute Box is what they used to sail onto England's shores and conquer the nation. It's like a primitive kind of ship.
So it's actually Majoras Mask? :)
Full Cooperation that's what I was thinking. Mini Majora's Mask
Matt Badham Loved Majoras Mask! This seems like a really cool and over the top take on that concept. Makes me eager to play it!
Had the same thought. Not that there's anything wrong with that at all.
Oh, I love these Commodore 64 style graphics!
I just bought the plush from the Devolver Digital store along with a steam key. I love DD published games!!
oooooh that clock sound ...ooooooohhhhhh
We need the sea of thieves jimpressions ASAP
All that and a Jukio Kallio soundtrack to boot. Thanks for the recommendation Jim.
Watched you talk about this game. Saw Dodger play it for 5 mins. Bought it immediately after.
its like an extreme version of majora's mask
For anyone wondering, it's out on the Switch now!
These self concious moments in ur monologue are killing me X.X
This game gave me stress flashbacks to Majora's Mask, and that game gave you 3 (in game) days to play with (whose progress could be ocarina-manipulated).
Dying every minute to run back each time would drive me bonkers.
*"When 72 Hours to Live (at a time) Just feels like too much."*
Eh? :''3
It's worth mentioning also that this game is also available on itch and GoG if you're like me and prefer not to have to boot up steam to play a game, or want to keep an installer around in case of a broken update.
I had no idea this was a Jan Willem Nijman (1/2 Vlambeer) game. Nuclear Throne was one of my fav games so I gotta check this out.
So...
Anybody else happen to stumble upon what happened at the UA-cam HQ the other day or are we all gonna let ourselves forget about it?
What happened?
Someone finally got fed up with UA-cam demonetizing them and shot up the place before taking their own life.
...Oh
The little swordsman looks like a tamagotchi. I can't think about anything else (will probably check it out though)
1:00 Ah yes, the starting area. The area you start in. The area chosen specifically for starting the game. Minit's starting area.
It's black and white Jim! Entirely monochromatic! Are my eyes broken? o.O
@Jim Sterling I don't know if you take game recommendations from youtube comments, but there is a strategy game called Comet Crash 2 on PS4 that's essentially a well polished tower defense RTS. Probably the most polished game in the sub-genre.

Legend of Downwell
It's a cool take on a "rogue-lite" formula.
Progression after each run.
Short, simple, to the point.
Great video for a first-look!
Just started and finished this today. Loved it!
The game goes in sixty-second spurts!? No wonder Jim likes it! (lol)
Definitely seems like a cute little puzzle adventure, might give it a try.
You know what, at first I thought you meant “sloppy seconds”, but this one actually looks good
I love the artstyle. I'll probably get it on a sale.
How many hours would it take to truly complete the game though? The concept is extraordinarily interesting, and strangely enough, it actually is very reminiscent of Zelda II, since all you do in that game is die, and develop your skills, level up, and acquire items to make the trek back to your next temple as smoothly as possible.
Not a fan of the black and white myself. Would've liked this game in more colours, looks fun!

Not my jam. :(
Doctor: You have 60 seconds to live.
Me: *Runs to the lighthouse, picks up the Fleshlight, pounds it, dies.*
I am reminded of the film with Tom Cruise Live, Die, Repeat Edge of Tomorrow.
The timing aspect is also reminiscent of Harvest Moon/Stardew day/night cycle. Kinda. Maybe.
A Jim Sterling video clocking in at under seven minutes? Wtf is the world coming to?
Thanks for Jimpressioning this one. Trying to find out if it's worth the 10bucks, especially when I already have Half Minute Hero. I'm not a huge fan of all the Zelda-like games being made lately. :/
This gimmick was introduced with Half Minute Hero. You could at least name drop that game, unless you're unaware of its existence.
This looks interesting! The main character reminds me of a cute Tamagotchi. :3
This game has a really good price point. It's nice to see individuals in the industry willing to cut a game short when they've run out of ideas and offer it at a reasonable price. Beats the alternative of repetition with the added sting of being too expensive any day.
this game is really fun, just a tad short imo. what is has is so well done that it left me craving for more.
Hey Jim, did you see that "Firefighter: The siumlation" is coming to nintendo switch? hooray!!
Another one for the wishlist, thanks Jim. I bought also "Squirm" brilliant! 😁😀
Oh.. when you say PC would it be helpful perhaps to say Windows, Linux etc? My PC runs Linux you see. Anyway both squirm and this are available. 😀
So it's Tamagotchi meets Zelda meets Half minute hero?
Watched a streamer play this, kept getting distracted and kept forgetting things, beat it in under two hours. But it has a new game plus mode.
I've bought or added to my wishlist pretty much most of the games you've recommended, I wouldn't have found them on Steam otherwise. Squirm and Squidlit are quite lovely
(You should have compared it to Majora's Mask too. The time aspect is so rarely explored these days)
Jim is best boglin boy!
Wait, isn't there another Zelda-esque game coming out with a similar gimmick? Or was that perma-death? Either way, in that game you also restart at the beginning with the things you've acquired in previous runs.
re hash I think you might be thinking of sword of ditto. I think that's the title. Game looks great
J Millz that's the one!
Also published by Devolver Digital, that one.
Wonder what speedrun times this get's, fun concept.
So, it's like Half Minute Hero? I'm in.
I love these jimpressions, for these little indie darling games. I love the title, Jim :D
i wish i could be entertained by games like this lol would make my life a lot easier. i enjoy watching you play em though jim XD
Welcome to *Minit to Winit* !
What a fucking great idea. I would totally dig this on the Switch, not so sure on other platforms. Maybe I'll try it on PS4.
So it's basically like one minute hero? I actually liked that game, so maybe this will be as fun to.
it's really reminding me of Molecule Man, a 1986 game with similar graphics and a similarly punishing time limit, except Molecule Man was the worst
Will you do a Jimpressions on Super Tony Land? It's a clone of Super Mario Maker that had a successful kickstarter, though I'm not sure it's available for public access yet.
Is there gonna be a Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy edition?
In every screenshot of this game I've thought the sword was a little hat.
seems interesting but i dont know if its something i want to spend money on, i mean like you said if you like it you might replay it but i find with most puzzle games once you know the answer you only replay it once or twice to see how fast you can do it knowing the proper way

ManOutofTime913 Well, consider that the fastest way to beat any game is to throw it into a trash can.
You can't do that to digital games, though. You have to uninstall them. Or better yet, just don't buy them in the first place.
ManOutofTime913 My point was, all games require players to bumble around and learn the systems, before any real thought can occur. Great video.
InB4 "Why isn't this on the Switch?"
someone here who can actually give me a hint for the north chamber of the secret temple? im tryin for hours and dont get it ... amazing game btw!
so its like half minute hero, but instead of focusing on micro adventures and figuring out how to better use your time, this is moreabout completing short tasks in a minute so you can do something else next time...
its almost like majora's mask lite.
Wasn't there also a co op rouge lite game called thirty second hero?
Are we ever going to get a Zelda game on the switch?
I expected a Zelda game within the first year...
TheLinkoln18 I appreciate the clever jab, but come on BotW wasn't that bad. Not bad at all if you ask me.
doctorwhooves mlpfan whoa whoa whoa, I love Warriors to death, but Hyrule Warriors is as close to being a Zelda game as Mario Kart is.
doctorwhooves mlpfan actually it's closer to Zelda 1 then the other games that came later.
If only the devs choose a different art style. I'd love the game if it was released on Gameboy back in 1995, but not today.
Though Jims glasses, not everything is black & white
This looks so rad. No switch port : (
The last game I saw on such a short time limit was Don't Shit Your Pants
Looks neat, hope it comes to Switch!
