Good trivia. I was in the away end that day behind the goal. I can’t see anything but a Boro win they are bang average and I know they’ve won 4 out of 5 games but no Sunderland player gets in the Boro team, they press high which suits us. They have their 10th choice manager and lost their best player. They’ll finish mid table. I’m more confident beating Sunderland than what I am beating stoke at home the following week. If we have not improved in the next 5-8 games of where we are struggling at the minute then questions need to be asked at the coach’s it’s not the players.
I think at some point we will smash a team. I think we will get better and already have more points than we had at this time last season (not difficult I accept). Our first team is not not settled yet and we have yet to click but it will come.
Just wish we’d be a little more physical up top. If we struggle to move players when the opposition are loading the box, then we need to learn to physically move them to create spaces in key areas. I’m not saying throw people about, but make it hard for them to mark key areas. Seems like a basic suggestion but I just don’t see it happening, i see players stationary with nowhere to go.
Players like Hackney and Azaz need to start chipping in with goals, Matt Clarke spends more time in the oppositions box trying to score goals. Prestons goal when do you see us cross the ball and somebody running into the box and put in the back of the net.
Love the podcast guys - always look out for it on a Sunday. Gotta disagree on one thing though. The "its the players" argument no longer really washes for me. When the same failures consistently crop up over a long period of time and the playing personel changes then you need to look at the things that remain the same... Its time to start talking about the coaching. This is a high quality squad, options all over the pitch - yet Boro consistently demonstrate the same failings game in, game out and have done so for 2-3 seasons now. Do not have a killer instinct and ship soft goals time and again. Add in a lack of any in-game, proactive management. Watch them go on 7 game winning streak and then draw/lose 5... They are predictable, pedestrian, repetitive. To do what Man City do, you need players who rarely make errors,l rarely give up the transition and can unlock tight space through sheer excellence. We dont have those assets yet we dont seem to adapt to what we do have. This is the Carrickball pattern. Forget about us being nearly there, its gonna click soon etc etc. It never does for a consistent period of time. Certainly not for long enough to mount a serious challenge. This is probably the best championship squad ever assembled by a Middlesbrough management team and the conversation does not seem to be had around whether Carrick and Woodgate are in the process of squandering it
It’s very rare you see consistency in football to be fair and I’m surprised you think this one the best boro sides in the championship. Even better than 15/16, 17/18 and 97/98?
Wasteful as always however we have to keep a very similar side I’d love Sol to get a chance but it’s not the keeper I just really like him But up front I’d say Doak ahead of Jones Conway has to start either with Latte Lath like the Akpom Archer situation Id even like Gilbert to get a chance on the left hand side we need a winger also potentially Hamilton Morris Hackney in the middle and keep the back line the way it is But using the young lads from the start and giving Gilbert a chance in the 10 isn’t a bad idea but like I said I’d start Conway But I have to say i think I’m 100% correct on Latte Lath he had his golden time towards the end of the season and got his goals but he’s not a great striker at all he’s very attacking but need not an out and out striker and if we did truly get offered 20 million we made a big mistake not taking it I hope I’m wrong but I’m almost certain he’s not the player we thought he was at the end of the season the season could end with Conway & Gilbert or Forss as our main strikers But keep the faith we’ve got a great set of players and I do also believe as much as I absolutely adore him as our manager and did as a player Carrick does have to take some of the blame for our results
Slow build up side ways and backwards passing . Clarke and Dieng messing about at the back. We never get the ball out to the left, stop start football. Frustrating to watch, poor home form again.
The worst thing for me is People Blame Carrick for Us Missing our chances
The game against Sunderland may just be the spark we need.

The referee came to the ground on the P.N.E. team coach.

@@BoroBreakdown97/98 was way better. Merson was unstoppable
He was so good he got called up for England
Wasteful as always however we have to keep a very similar side
I’d love Sol to get a chance but it’s not the keeper I just really like him
But up front I’d say Doak ahead of Jones
Conway has to start either with Latte Lath like the Akpom Archer situation
Id even like Gilbert to get a chance on the left hand side we need a winger also potentially Hamilton
Morris Hackney in the middle and keep the back line the way it is
But using the young lads from the start and giving Gilbert a chance in the 10 isn’t a bad idea but like I said I’d start Conway
But I have to say i think I’m 100% correct on Latte Lath he had his golden time towards the end of the season and got his goals but he’s not a great striker at all he’s very attacking but need not an out and out striker and if we did truly get offered 20 million we made a big mistake not taking it
I hope I’m wrong but I’m almost certain he’s not the player we thought he was at the end of the season the season could end with Conway & Gilbert or Forss as our main strikers
But keep the faith we’ve got a great set of players and I do also believe as much as I absolutely adore him as our manager and did as a player Carrick does have to take some of the blame for our results

Boro have ALWAYS had bad refereeing. Paul Durkin was a cheating bastard.
