Hi Karl, I was working on 482 as a Software Engineer at a well known Company with headquarters in Silicon valley. I also applied for a 189 visa in Feb this year. The company did a few rounds of restructuring and I lost my job last month. Now I have just 60 days to leave Australia even though I have applied for a 189 visa, my bridging visa will not be activated. I have been applying for jobs over the last few weeks and all employers tell me the same thing "Let us know when you get your PR" or "You are the perfect candidate, if only you had a visa". What a shame, I am having to wrap up 7 years of my life and will have to start a new life back in my own country till I hear back from immigration. Could you please cover this as well in your video this week? (Commenting from a different account to stay anonymous)
It’s interesting the top 20 occupations in demand for each state. I was looking into my occupation for NSW “program/project admin” and in the last few months they have barely granted 190 visas in the dynamic reports… Might it be because a lack of apps or they arent approving?
Funny that no state has listed agricultural occupations on their lists. I work in this area in SA and I can tell that there's a major shortage on workers. In addition, the priority areas regarding visa 408 and some states priority areas for this fiscal year include agriculture so that's quite surprising for me.
Huge thanks for sharing the JSA report and links! I just want to share my personal pain of dealing with occupation lists. I've been working as a DevOps Engineer for 7 years, 3 of them in Australia. DevOps engineer role is still not included in the Home Affairs and ACS lists of _existing_ occupations, while constantly cited by various sources (JSA this time, NSC before) as being an emerging occupation and/or with a shortage of workers. After multiple applications 2 years ago, ACS only agreed to assess my skills as corresponding to a Systems Administrator. While true to some degree (SysAdm is a typical entry point for DevOps), SysAdm is neither emerging nor in great demand, hence not included in the 189 visa list and almost all the time in the lowest priority for 190 visas too. Quite a sad situation to have a job that exists in reality but not in the ACS/DoHA papers.
Yes the occupation classifications will be updated soon I hope to include many occupations that are not accurately reflected in this ancient list now. Fingers crossed. Thanks for your insight
New and emerging occupations like this which doesn’t really have a defined list of responsibilities really show the weakness of the current occupation list, where each occupation has a defined duty list to follow along. I mean, take electrical engineer as example, it can work as electrical engineer but with heavy emphasis on software programming for electrical engineering purposes. How would skill assessment body assess this kind of work experience? Software engineer? That’s just nonsensical and very restrictive. We will see how they decide to handle this occupation list thing in the migration reform.
Very similar situation for Data Scientists at the moment. It falls somewhere between Statistician and many of the Software and Application programmer job codes that are in great demand. The ABS added it as an occupation in December 2022 so hopefully it will appear on some lists in the upcoming refresh
Finally we hear some sensible suggestions on how to make international student graduates more competitive in the local market, such as enrolling recent international graduates to apprentice program. For too long Australian citizens and PRs have been spoiled by all the privileges they have on job markets. It is time for talented and/or aspiring international graduates to shake the job market and start building a career Australians don’t bother to take. And thank goodness protection visa processing change is on the way. That should stamp out a lot of BVA holders just wanting to stay in Australia but unwilling to commit to a legitimate pathway to stay in Australia properly. The housing pressure should ease a bit when those “failed to depart” depart, especially in big cities since easier to hide compared to small towns.
I'd argue that using a student visa under false pretences to migrate is putting the student in a far more privileged position - no proven skills or capability, but a free ticket to a better country. It has also been abused through fake education institutions, marriage to a local, and endless bridging visas. Whereas the skilled migration stream is very competitive, hard to obtain and costly.
@@hannesRSA unlike protection visa applicants, student visa holder has strict conditions attached, and their arrival can bring some eco boost to the country. We can call it “cautiously welcome”. And no, there is no such thing as “free ticket” for student visa, as the cost is considerable compared to a token $45.00 for protection visa. The whole point of stamping out protection visa applications with no ground is to reduce the number BVA holders. Other categories may also follow. As of Aug 2023, stats show there are 188k Bridging visa holders. Removing those non-genuine protection visa applicants is a very quick way to help easing housing crisis as those spots will be available for legit people.
@@estellebright2579 I know protection visas are too protective.. e.g. if I commit any crime, maybe even by accident, in my first 5 years, I'll be deported on a Skilled visa. Plus there are sponsored skilled visas where the employer can abuse the employee because they're reliant on doing 4 years work. I know a couple of cases where the student visa grants someone who is not even studying, a way into the country which would not be possible via legal channels. They did get protection, even free housing, cash jobs, and more hours worked than is allowed.
@@estellebright2579 just to be clear I agree with your posts 😀 Actually I am looking for an avenue for someone who is willing to work hard to get a job legally, but it is a bit hard due to age. @@hannesRSA yes, those complacent Australian citizens should wake up to competitions abroad when it comes to training skills and apprenticeships. What I want to say is non-genuine protection visa applicant BVA holders are like the low-hanging fruit to stamp out before anyone else, as most of the time their claims are not based on well-founded fears anyway.
Hi Karl, Just wondering if there are any changes in the pipeline for skilled, work and business visas. The Albanese government had announced earlier that there will be a major revamp of the points tested skilled visa model and LMT requirements. Do you suggest me to change my Anzsco now to Registered Nurse (Aged Care) instead of NEC for invitation as I have above three months work experience in the aged care and I am continuing to do so. Also, will they gonna issue invitation to NEC for RN or no? And is 189 invitation going to occur on October or the referendum result going to play major role in 189 invitation round and migration overall. Also, why they don’t realise skilled people living in Australia and working in their nominated occupation is not going to add burden on housing so why not to issue invitation to them? Also have 75 points for 190, do you think I would get invited from migration QLD in upcoming round as I am working as an RN in aged care on regional QLD. And may i consider of doing Skill assessment for my partner too for 189/190 visa as civil engineering draftperson or my points are enough for 189/190 invitation. Could you please share your opinion?

I will choose ICT (Software engineering, Hardware engineering, Cyber Security, Machine Learning etc) as the top profession. because This profession influences and upgrades other professions. In the near future, Doctor replacement AI Robotics introduced and Professional Doc will administer the robotics. Same for Professors and politicians. We have driverless Vehicles, Fuel Free Vehicles Mostly parents raise their children for future professional ICT or Doctors. Easy to have more Professional drivers with the help of driverless vehicles. (Now add-ons available to plug and use the vehicle as Driveless) Robotics with AI help, are better Doc / Nurse. So no need to hire 100 new, hire 10 to manage 100 robotics base systems.

They have got their priorities completely backward, they should give you guys PR first and then if we need more bring them in on 482 visas and let them prove themselves too and then just continue that cycle of events.
Hi Karl thanks for the informative video.. what questions or querries can the DHA or CO ask from the applicant at the Further Assessment stage..
Lots of things, no specific list
Hi, my experience has been in Clean Energy finance (enabling skills for clean energy) research and designing innovative financial instruments and almost at the end of PhD in Finance (focussed in climate change) from Australian Uni (fully funded industry PhD) and working for an Energy Financd think tank. Previous background is MBA and Btech (Electronics and Instrumentation) ...any hope for PR as per current priority for clean energy and enabling sectors push?
Thanks

Hi Karl,
I submitted my 190 visa application on 7th of March this year hoping that I would receive my visa in 7months time (i.e. this month) but haven't yet. Just confused about what's happening with the process. If you could shed some light on this, would be amazing!
Same, lodged March, Electrician, 6th on the list!! Not heard a peep 😢
What will be the chance for Pharmacist in this financial year
Not great I think due to the lower numbers, more chance next year
@@ailsaustraliabut the pharmacist is still on the priority list. So If they prioritize the healthcare sector the same as last year. Hopefully.
Thank you
Your welcome
The jobs and skills list also looks misleading , they say primary and secondary school teachers are in top 5 shortage but when you look at state wise data , these occupations don’t feature in any of 5 states top 20 job openings . Anything I am missing Karl !
Yes interesting and perhaps reading the full report will reveal
Take care of your health too Karl😊
Thanks!
Great video as always.. thank you😊
Thanks Hasitha
As a UK qualified electrician, why don’t Australia recognise our certification and allow us to get an Australian license instead of making it incredibly complicated and expensive to achieve?
Because they want you to spend money and time to show you are really woth of the citizenship.
@@ojoaomotta I’m not asking for citizenship, just to have my skills recognised, several Australian site induction individuals have stated that uk qualified electricians are probably more qualified than most Australian electricians, not saying I am but it would be nice to be seen as an equal instead of being financially penalised just because i’m not Australian
Amazing content Karl as always! with actual news and facts! Anyways, I have recently lodge an EOI for 190 visa in South Australia and under Skill Assessment Section (first question) to nominate an occupation, does that answer fill my current occupation I am nominating for the visa or the qualification/occupation which was skilled assessed? Current occupation, Production Engineer but skill assessed positive for Chemical Engineer. Appreciate your response Karl!
You should put the occupation title that your skills assessment is in.
@@morron6666 Absolutely right! It HAS TO BE the skill assessement one!
Thanks for the positive feedback! When it asked for your nominated occupation that is usally the one you have the skill assessment in. Make sure your EOI lists all your work experience so they can see your background

Hi Karl, please try and propose to remove the IELTS academic requirements for Accounting skills assessment. For PR, Ielts general is only required. People who studied, worked and lived in Australia should not go through skills assessment.
I doubt if that will have much effect, try the PTE
Can we please get some updates on partner visa applications 😢 I am struggling with the department 😔

Waiting from 2020 January for a 190 subclass visa offshore. No updates till now. Life is spoiled. Can't think about a life status change because of point loss issues. What I need to do to get a CO contact

My question - I applied for a 190 visa grant in April or this year for Victoria after receiving my invitation for the occupation of marketing specialist. How much time do you think it could take for my visa to be processed? Any direction would be helpful!
Hello Mallika
Can we connect even I am planning to apply for marketing specialist can you guide me for the same?
Rumour has it that new points system will be introduced in November/December, any comments on this Karl? And do you think Australia will take inspiration for New Zealand in making their new points system (where they have removed English Language points).
Have they, I did not hear but will take a look. They could but nothing has passed in legislation drafts yet.
@@ailsaustralia Thank you Karl, also is there any chance of increase in state & territory allocations?
Hello Karl, I really appreciate you bringing us fresh content regularly. I have a question regarding the priority list. I received Victoria invitation 190 under Transport Company Manger in January and applied. in federal in April. I see my role isn't in the list but Truck driver is. Will my roles be considered for grant in priority or it is strictly going to be tuck drivers?
Your occuation will not be considered a priority at this stage unless they change the Direction 100 which outlines occupations most needed

It may or may not, probably will remain just on employer sponsored for now
Are medical laboratory scientists no longer in demand?

Hi Karl, thanks for Amazing informative content. Can you please make a video on moving state from Tasmania on 491 visa who got there nomination in 2023 as its written on the nomination ‘You have to live in Tasmania for 2 years after visa grant’. It would be great help for those who are planing to move from Tasmania to other regional areas.

What do you think, since truck drivers appeared on the list (not official list but they are recognized as the occupation in demand) do you think that we can expect some changes in the future where truck drivers will be able to get a work visa-permanent visa to Australia?

Yes indeed that could yet be possible
we don't need anymore people in australia realistically I dont understand why u would even want to move when its expensive to live u dont get paid enough and ur gonna be stuck in this cycle of doing the same thing everyday no holiday leave thats only for teachers we have a housing crisis on top of that our fertility rate is so low we dont even have the next generation of Australians when our country is turning into a immigrant country what is australia and where r Australians from born and raised aussies
I have been in Australia for a 3 months ,l have a degree but still no work.
The rent and cost of living is very expensive
Hai Karl, do you know why most of the 189 invitations from 2022 Dec who lodged in Dec and January is still waiting while DHA randomly pick only few applicants from that round and a massive number of grants from may invitation.
These days 12 months for a non priority occupation is the norm for 189
Hi Karl,
Have submitted EOI for RN NEC 25499 on June and still waiting for the 189 invitation on 70 points.
I's just wait and see what happens if the first couple if invitation rounds once they begin. If you have a second skill assessment you can put up two EOI's. Best of luck we need you in Australia
Good morning Carl
My question is about TRA. Processing times are stated as 120 days. Our 120 days have come and gone and still no answer. Have you heard how long it is taking to process MSA skills assessments? We submitted our application at the end of May. Cheers.
at least 6 months these days it seems sadly
@@ailsaustralia thank you for your reply. It is very frustrating at the moment for skills assessments and visas. Once we get our skills assessment, all going well it’s good news we then need to apply for a 494 visa and not sure how long that will take to get approved.

Not yet but Im sure it is coming, stay tuned
I will choose ICT (Software engineering, Hardware engineering, Cyber Security, Machine Learning etc) as the top profession. because This profession influences and upgrades other professions.
In the near future, Doctor replacement AI Robotics introduced and Professional Doc will administer the robotics. Same for Professors and politicians.
We have driverless Vehicles, Fuel Free Vehicles
Mostly parents raise their children for future professional ICT or Doctors.
Easy to have more Professional drivers with the help of driverless vehicles. (Now add-ons available to plug and use the vehicle as Driveless)
Robotics with AI help, are better Doc / Nurse.
So no need to hire 100 new, hire 10 to manage 100 robotics base systems.
Thanks for your comment and opinion
What about external auditors?
They get invited in normal times but these are not normal times
Hi Karl, I have a question. If you apply for a 190 visa through the South Australia graduate pathway and haven't received it yet, can you later change your employer to one located in another state and work remotely?
I wouldnt go to that country at all since there is a housing crisis and big crime rate all over the country and its not enough pay for living especially with inflation ur paying over 200 for food
@@ritaa1359 I have been living in Australia for the last 4 .5 years and hands down, its an amazing place to live, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. I honestly don't know about your comment about crime rate, Australia has one of the lowest crime rates. Inflation is high, but so are the salaries, software engineers here with around 2 years of experience make around 100k per year, which even after income tax and other expenses is a very good income.
yes, the housing crises does agree, but I think things will get better with time. It does take a little time to find a good house, but you do find it eventually
That is a question you will have to ask them I'm afraid, but perhaps it is best not to
