Immigration should have been stopped 30 years ago if they were concerned with sustainability and social cohesion. Both political parties have been importing masses of poor people from 3rd world countries for short-term economic gains. It's time to invest in the education of our Australian children to give them a chance to fill the 'skilled' positions.
Australia is doomed without emigration. First, educate yourself then open your mouth. With an average age of around 40 and population growth of 0 who do you think is going to do all the work.
@@Vikee41337 Maybe you should educate yourself before opening YOUR mouth. There are enough people already here, and allowing masses of people from poor countries is making things worse. We can encourage Australian students and graduates into certain skilled jobs. We can allow short-term, temporary visas for work, but the people have to return home after a few years, so they are not a burden and adding to the aging population. There can't be neverending immigration; it's unsustainable. Australia will end up a third-world country with insufficient housing or healthcare, our forests will have disappeared, our animals will be extinct, and there won't be enough water. However, you obviously don't care about protecting our beautiful country.😞
@@Vikee41337It’s immigration not emigration and no we are not “doomed” without immigration. That’s a fallacy promoted by the corporate media to prevent people questioning mass immigration.
What rubbish. The Labor party has facilitated increased immigration at every chance it got. It disallowed deportation of New Zealand criminals, it granted residency to holders of temporary protection visas, it made citizenship pathways for student visa holders, it eased rules for student visas from Vietnam and India, it granted citizenship to Tuvalu residents in the event of climate catastrophe, immediately accepted palestinian and Israeli immigrants in the middle of their war and released dangerous detainees into our cities. They're getting pushback from their own voters and now have to grow a backbone.
Don’t be disingenuous. The LNP has always ramped up immigration too. John Howard oversaw a massive spike in immigration. He was happy to import a huge pool of cheap labour for his corporate masters.
@@johnmatthews8810 No, Labor isn't reducing immigration to "normal" levels at all. Half of the present intake is still far too high. We need a moratorium on immigration altogether for several years, then a return to the average that we had in the second half of the last century: 70,000. Our fresh water, our arable and and our wildlife habitat haven't increased at all since the last century, which was only 23 years ago.
Only way they could get such a large number of buildings built would be to get transportable buildings built and preferably do it themselves. As in using the army to build them and install onto blocks of land. Extremely unlikely that will happen ever.
If large numbers of homes are going to be built cheaply, they will be the slums of the future. Why must we build houses for foreigners at all? Just cut immigration to nothing.
I don't want any more of our country covered over with roofs and roads. I value our open spaces and I value our rare and precious flora and fauna. We have destroyed enough of it already. Is her way to distract Australians about the inflation in houses and food prices.. lazy Politicians blame immigrants for everything to distract their incompetence
We have a per capita recession. That means that the ratio of GDP to each person is shrinking. Household disposable incomes were diminishing before COVID and diminish still. If you flood the nation with foreigners you can get an increase in GDP stats, even though there is less GDP per person.

3:30 if those mentioned highly skilled migrants are good and will help to shake up our economy again, then why did they find it is difficult to use the current migration system? Because even a fresh graduate can still apply, fullfil the requirement and eventually gain PR afterwards. _ I personally feel unfair for those who are waiting for their applications to be granted due to this major adjustment of the system. What's the point of them working and helping the country in last couple years?
"Helping the country"? They are helping no one but themselves. Mass immigration since the Howard govt has resulted in a greater share of GDP going to capital, at the expense of labour. We have more homelessness and fewer people own their own homes. Household disposable incomes have diminished and we are in a per capita recession. Before mass immigration we never heard about "skill shortages".
Are this migrants being sent to rural areas to build infrastructure there taking the pressure the major cities or are they all moving to the cities and making housing even more unattainable?
Labor the out off touch party. $5000 fine for illegal strike to a worker is un issues for all workers in Australia. They can't control the Palestinian that got here and they want more? If they didn't sack those with a brain who didn't take the experiment we wouldn't have so many vacancies. I don't want an overseas trained nurse. I want an Aussie. Stop forcing Aussies out
If overseas-trained nurses could work in Australia, then you'd have solved your shortage issue ages back! Nope, overseas-trained nurses and doctors however, qualified or trained in some of the best medical colleges aren't permitted to ply their profession here (unless they are from Canada or the US or the UK I think); it's because your system doesn't allow it; and of course for obvious reasons which is pretty much respected (else you'd never know what you'd get for such a sensitive sector); that's why you have qualified nurses from South Asia, spending their life's savings to undertake their nursing courses all over again here in Australia in a bid for permanent residency and to of course become part of the workforce. It's a huge sacrifice. In any case, letting in such a number (upwards of 600K) in just a year is preposterous! I am a doctoral student here; way past your so-called "productive or economic threshold" age, and I hold no interest in continuing here after my studies; I just want to give my kids a nice experience here - enjoying Australia, getting to experience Western schooling for at least 3-4 years, get me that PhD - a lifelong aspiration; and then it's back home; but with all these fallouts (the rising cost of living and the rentals), it's making our experience here a tad unsavory. But it will be interesting to see how things pan out as not everyone seems to be aware that international students (at least the ones who attend proper unis here) pay in a year what an average Australian would ever spend in their entire educational life; they and largely their spouses form an integral part of the workforce here, with huge tax contribution, a substantial part of which amongst others go into funding Aussie retirees! International students who do their postgraduate degrees in universities here including myself often wonder where are the actual Aussie students? Are they not into studying, or are they busy robbing stores, car-jacking, invading homes, playing fisticuffs at school, and engaging in hide-n-seek with the rather funny justice system here??
No, we are the DESCENDANTS of migrants, like everyone else on the planet, including the indigenous. But modern migrants come to use hundreds of millions of dollars worth of infrastructure and public services that have taken generations of taxpaying to provide. Our forebears did not come to a rich country as recent migrants do. Our forebears made Australia rich.

NOT 100,000! The average intake over the second half of the last century, which was only 23 years ago, was 70,000 pa. Our fresh water, our arable land and our wildlife habitats have not increased since then, so we should NOT be growing our population.
Just one question ! Since those students generate income to the country and bring in hard currency …. Why dont u solve the real problem by building more houses . A 100 condominiums in Melbourn with 1000 unites each will solve all the problem …. Easy
So I had done some research about this.. apparently one big issue is that most of the land in Australia is owned by the ultra rich. So there is very less land available for suburban construction. I may be wrong with my explanation, but it's something like that! I'm in Australia now since more than a year and I've been worried about the housing crisis ever since.
And who is going to pay for the water and the sewerage? Students don't generate as much income as is claimed. If they work in Australia, the money that they spend on fees and living expenses is NOT export income. They compete with Australian students for the part-time jobs.

I’m studying masters in civil engineering I see so many people changing their courses to something lower but we genuine students will also be affected when they cut off post study work visa period
The whole purpose of the student visa and post study visa system was to acquire new skills and knowledge to take to your own country. It was never meant to be a pathway to residency or work. Australia does not need civil engineers who just graduated from uni. We need senior engineers with years of infrastructure experience. But then again Australian employers must pay the market rate for such highly skilled migrants.

Obviously because of the mind-blowing educational cost. I came in 2022 and my Master of Social Work costs 65k for 2 years. Whereas my direct juniors have to pay 75k. Its preposterous, especially since the Indian rupee is significantly of lesser value compared to AUD. I work 7 days a week and still is struggling to pay rent, bills, fees and survive. So before jumping into a conclusion like that, it is the high fees imposed on us by the Aussie unis that force us to indulge in labour, which unfortunately makes it harder for Aussies. The situation sucks for both us and Aussies. But it is what it is. Good day.
And why no one addressed the education point, why do we need to import talent?? Simple because Aussies focus on being a plumber, electrician, builder or any other trades leaving to immigrants to run the country

You must stop chinna from immigrating, and completely stop all foreigners buying properties, farms, industries.
Agree. Shut down the chinnese before it’s too late like here in the USA
Foreign buyers make up 1% of property purchases, it’s not the big issue you think it is, the real issue is migration (demand) and builds (supply), though demand is the bigger issue imo.
@@Mick_UnfilteredActually, there are stunning numbers of Chinese buyers who buy and hold properties for their relatives overseas.
Great Questions Hamish, someone’s got ask hard questions and hold government accountable 💪💪👍
I thought Andrew Giles was the relevant Minister? Has he been demoted? Why is Clare O'Neil doing all the media?
99% of houses sold in my area are to new migrants!
The normal permanent immigrant intake is what was the average in the second half of the last century, which was only 23 years ago. That was 70,000 pa
What makes you think any politician or political party is going to start listening to any expert now let alone the public?
Why would people bother catching an illegal boat here now. Its easier just to get a visa and fly in. How could immigration possibly sufficiently process 10,000 people a week. Working M to F thats 2,000 people a day. Ridiculous, there must be many who don't qualify but are welcomed in. Just much more unsustainable pressure on health care and housing.
Is this too little / too late?
Both
The problem is in the rootstocks!!!! Now AAT cases will start increasing and getting clogged in the system where all these temporary migrants will get another 2 years of time to live by the time Tribunal Judge gives them a date to hear their appeal 😂😂😂😂!!!! Problem is not happened with labour or liberal government , it happened with bureaucracy.
With an average age of around 40 and population growth of 0 who do you think is going to do all the work.
immigration is good for economy dummy. you think Australia would have advanced if there where no migration?
Yes it’s because Australia is a corporate paradise masquerading as a workers paradise. Anything corporations ask for, they get.
😂😂😂😂We have to eat Vegemite Steve 😂😂😂😂.
Don’t be disingenuous. The LNP has always ramped up immigration too. John Howard oversaw a massive spike in immigration. He was happy to import a huge pool of cheap labour for his corporate masters.
@@johnmatthews8810 Agree. Both main parties want a "Big Australia" but Labor seems to want it asap.
@@dfor50 No, Labor’s walking that back now. So it’s only the LNP that still wants a big Australia.
I don't want foreigners to come here and stuff up Australia the same way they have stuffed up their own nations. I have seen what Asians have done to Asia and what Africans are doing to Africa.
What a joke.
Both governments have dropped the ball. No affordable accomodation . Train australians not import .
Governments not fit for purpose
Maybe we wouldnt be so desperate to import Doctors if we used our universtities to educate our own kids rather than flogging off all the positions to foreign students.
We wouldn't be desperate for doctors if we hadn't imported millions of foreigners to compete with us, for the time and attention of Australian trained professionals.
is the Migration Strategy directly linked to more inaccessible & unaffordable housing 🤔
100%.
yes, and now less people to build the houses
Of course it is!
Yup, which is the only reason why both the LNP and now Labor have opened the floodgates. Australia for Australians first!
I guess, enough money has been pumped into the Australian economy from international migration, that's why they are making changes. When money runs out they ease the rules again. Don't worry International Students and migrants.
We have a per capita recession at present.
Well done Australia..as always you show the world how its done. lets hope soon you stop migration completely
Please fix the interest rate low not the international student
Great minister
😂😂
I’ve just written this comment to announce u that vice versa all the benefits which prepared by the previous government, I planed to come there by 188visa. Unfortunately, it seems that the Australian new governors are not interest in capital attraction which makes Australia very unsafe for us as the entrepreneurs to inflow our capital. If any changes happen it will makes huge disaster for the next government. Pls revise the priorities.
Well said minister !
Good for YOU in Australia. Thank God your Government finally came to their senses on immigration. Why do you make it so hard on people that speak, read, & in write English to immigrate to Australia? I looked into that and l almost have the $100,000 US Dollars l can deposit in the Bank there. Does anyone know how to make it easier. I will not compete for a job, or beg for public assistance. Thank you.
Why are you wanting to come here? You would be competing with Australians for the use of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of infrastructure and public services that have taken many generations of taxpaying to provide. $US100,000 won't go very far.
Why not make your own country better with your savings?
HOW MANY of them each of these politicians will HOST AT THEIR HOMES first ???
Net zero immigration in Australia
I think they could invest in graduates from Australia at least in the government funded jobs.
Why all the political jargon?
close the border
Its deliberate!!!!!
Takes years for these muppets to do something… and then blame someone else
Yeah I would say there's some negative effects like a Australians not being able to rent a f****** unit and and like our own Australian population that's living on the streets and intense because we have no houses maybe think of those
Doctors will close practices if NHI is implemented
South African doctors and specialists have announced that they would rather close their practices than work under the government's National Health Insurance. Do you need any more doctors in Aus. You can pick & choose among our best doctors now.
The regional system is completely broken, visas take a long time and people give up and return to big cities or apply in other countries
Labor the out off touch party. $5000 fine for illegal strike to a worker is un issues for all workers in Australia. They can't control the Palestinian that got here and they want more? They don't respect any Australian authority. To get trade training for a person in Australia is so difficult. Instead they bring people that they aren't 100% and come to train on the job.
Too late for the ALP!!!!
What about jobs? Unemployment is still very high amongst migrants.
Whats the point of implementing these rules now brining loads of cash from student and ruin their life i was planning to study never done a dodgy thing here paid taxes everything even a real financial document before coming here now i need to go back as i dont want to work in kitchen instead i want to study nursing now i need to go back.
Sorry that’s happened but our priority should be Australians, when there are 80 applicants for 1 rental property we are clearly full and need to make way for Australians to live not foreigners.
@@Mick_Unfiltered Its not because of immigration its because your government granted more visa than needed in the year after covid , for example if the train is fully packed then you remove immigrants or you add up more train services . Also the granted visa were for fraud people who showed fake financial documents that time i know people from my country.
Thankyou for allowing free speech in the comment section
These people just want money. There’s a lot of highly skilled local people jobless.
I thought international students would fill in those skills shortages ?
If they didn't sack those with a brain who didn't take the experiment we wouldn't have so many vacancies.
I don't want an overseas trained nurse.
I want an Aussie.
Stop forcing Aussies out
If overseas-trained nurses could work in Australia, then you'd have solved your shortage issue ages back! Nope, overseas-trained nurses and doctors
however, qualified or trained in some of the best medical colleges aren't permitted to ply their profession here (unless they are from Canada or the US or the UK I think); it's because your system doesn't allow it; and of course
for obvious reasons which is pretty much respected (else you'd never know what you'd get for such a sensitive sector); that's why you have qualified nurses from South Asia, spending their life's savings to undertake their
nursing courses all over again here in Australia in a bid for permanent residency and to of course become part of the
workforce. It's a huge sacrifice.
In any case, letting in such a number (upwards of 600K) in just a year is preposterous! I am a doctoral student here; way past your so-called "productive or economic threshold" age,
and I hold no interest in continuing here after my studies; I just want to give my kids a nice experience here - enjoying Australia, getting to experience
Western schooling for at least 3-4 years, get me that PhD - a lifelong aspiration; and then it's back home; but with all these fallouts (the rising cost of living and the rentals), it's making our experience here a tad unsavory.
But it will be interesting to see how things pan out as not everyone seems to be aware that international students (at least the ones who attend proper unis here) pay in a year what an average Australian
would ever spend in their entire educational life; they and largely their spouses form an integral part of the workforce here, with huge tax contribution, a substantial part of which amongst others
go into funding Aussie retirees! International students who do their postgraduate degrees in universities here including myself often wonder where are the actual Aussie students? Are they not
into studying, or are they busy robbing stores, car-jacking, invading homes, playing fisticuffs at school, and engaging in hide-n-seek with the rather funny justice system here??
😂😂😂😂Joke of the labour Govt big plan, and big Aussie asking Aussie nurses where they don't pay enough 😂
So how many carpenters have we brought in?
Generation of European migrants calling others as migrants. Hilarious 😂
Em chestam atla undi veela double standards 😂😂😂
The people who made Australia a first world country - Europeans. Correct. Read a history book.
Instead of blaming the international students, why not stop immigrants sneaking illegally through boats etc, giving rise to crime.
AGREE
Stop students who bring billions into country and work hard and pay tax..Bring more refugees & Asylum seekers who love to live in centerlink money all their life like a leech...
Labor is making the Rental Crisis worse. Labor is causing homeless rates too skyrocket.
The LNP made the rental crisis and the housing bubble much worse during its disastrous nine year tenure from 2013 to 2022.
They were the most incompetent government since federation.
@@johnmatthews8810 I agree 100% both the LNP and ALP have caused this insane Homeless/housing/rental Crisis.

Build infrastructure like roads rail bridges hospitals where necessary including regional. they ve been neglected....
NOT 100,000! The average intake over the second half of the last century, which was only 23 years ago, was 70,000 pa. Our fresh water, our arable land and our wildlife habitats have not increased since then, so we should NOT be growing our population.
WE JUST WANT YOUR MONEY; WE DON'T WANT YOU TO SHOW UP ON YOUR DOOR/////
No idea. 😢
Im 54 old you said i no longer can work even when i speak other four languages. Why so

Do your post study work in your own country.
@@PraneetCastelino purpose of post study work visa is to gain skills and experience and it is a pathway for future (whoever is planning).
Eg for PR some occupations you must have Australian experience some companies don’t even consider other country’s qualifications and experiences.
It is important what we learn in Australia and what we work in Australia to get a job in Australia.
There is a reason Indian and Chinese are the highest intake.. They are coming from an over populated country 😅

Good day.
Agree. Indians with fake papers are replacing highly skilled workers . A lot of local engineers loosing their jobs.
And why no one addressed the education point, why do we need to import talent?? Simple because Aussies focus on being a plumber, electrician, builder or any other trades leaving to immigrants to run the country
