This channel is GOLD! I found you today and I'm taking a trip down memory lane. The funny part is my tackle box is full of the same lures as yours. I bass fished until the early 90's, which is when I found musky fishing. So, I haven't bought many new bass baits and I fish all my 80's and early 90's baits. My old school casting setup was a 6' Berkley Bionix with a Shimano Bantam Magnumlite 2000 GT. I love your boat and everything about the channel!
I remember when rapala bought out all the good lure makers, i still have a heap of wiggle warts, mag warts, hot n tots, magnum tots and a fair few others like producers double dowers, jensen hotlips. I rate them over any new lures, especially the metal bibbed as they tend to dive on impact. Awesome channel man
Think on a trip to Florida....I would love to get you on some aggresive Florida bites....Roland Martin Marina is 30 minutes from my house....My treat on a day fishing...think about it
Excellent content. I have all pre-Rapala Wiggle Warts from 1982, about 12 of them in perch. I also have a ton, (about 15) 1979 Rebel Deep Wee-R's in various patterns, had to switch the original front hook to short shanks because the flaw of that lure was the trebles hooked together.
I heard that Rapala for a time made post-Rap WW05 Warts in Mexico using the old molds and plastic. The retooling story I heard was to a 2pc. design (separate lip and body then glued together) the originals were also 2pc but centerline split and glued up as 2 half units. So pre-Rap (99') might not be a strictly correct demarkation.
I too have a behemoth of a tackle box just about to big to heft over the side of the boat i usually put together a smaller more manageable box and always find myself wishing I had brought something I left at home.
Great video! The lews bb1 is the best crankbait reel ever produced. I bought one at a fishing swap meet a couple of years ago. Will be using tomorrow 🙂
That tackle box is astonishing to say the least. It is just too wonderful to use and should be put on display in the IGFA museum. The question is how many lures fit in that thing? I bet TacticalBassin ain’t ever seen one of those monsters. When you opened it up; it looked as big as a dining room table. The few Wiggle Warts I have left are the bigger ones. If you use them a lot the bills grind down and then they are done for. I quit using the old ones when I realized they were selling for big bucks. Wiggle Warts were popular for Walleye fishing along with Hot-N-Tots. They use the large ones on down riggers for Salmon, Steelhead and Walleye fishing Lake Erie. I doubt you want to lose any because they cost a fortune to buy old ones still in the box. The bad thing about vintage tackle boxes is if it rains hard they fill up with water. And if your fishing in the rain you are screwed. You either take everything out and let it dry off or all your hooks rust. And that thing is one giant nightmare you don’t ever want to see happen. PS: the rod and reel outfit looked to be a Lew’s Speed Stick and a BB 1 Lew’s reel. That was one top of the line outfit in the day. That outfit was big money at the time and in that era Boron rods were the only rods that cost more. You need to showcase that outfit. If you have any original Big-O crankbaits they were even more treasured than Wiggle Warts. Named after Big Otis who tested the first ones. (Made By Fred Young) then made from plastic by Cotton Cordell. The signed ones are priceless in unused condition.
Gizmo Carr I still see the Mag Warts, but always wondered what hey were for. I have been pining for a Fred C. Young original for some time, but haven’t been able to hook one yet. I do have an original Fintail Shiner, and I can bet you know what episode I am saving that for...
OK, Gizmo we need your help! Just used a new, old bait, an 8-1/2-inch worm from "Butch" Harris. He also had his name on a crankbait called the Fac-Bak. I heard he is in the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame, but info is scant. Know anything about him???
@@RetroBassin Don’t know much’ but found this information that might lead to more. I will look for more and see if there is more about him and the lures he promoted. Mid-Atlantic Gateway: Gone Fishing Again: Butch Harris Lures www.midatlanticgateway.com/2019/03/butch-harris-bass-lures.html
The pre rapala wiggle warts are easily my favorite crankbaits but I rarely fish them because I'm so scared to lose them but when you crank down with an old Abu Garcia 5000 on a Bass Pro Shops Mean Green Stick it's an amazing experience
If you have a swimming pool it is easy to tell the difference between the pre- Rapala wart and the new Storm version. The “ pre “ is a true hunter very erratic. The new Storm version is much more tight wobbled. They both catch fish! For the record……Old or New both baits need tuned a bit to run straight. Best method remove split ring from line tie , attach snap to your line run baits in pool or lake, keep rod pointed straight at bait….retrieve several times. If bait runs left, undo snap , and slight bend line eye to the right. Reattach snap , and re-test….repeat process till bait runs straight. You can then carefully re- attach split ring if desired……You now have “ A Digger “. Rob
I wish I knew what I learned later about wiggle warts later in life. Use to pass them up! However I do have an extensive collection of storm old school original rattling chug bugs.
There’s a wiggler replica called brads wiggler, which from what I’ve seen is much better and more similar to the original wart compared to the storm wart. They don’t run for too much either
Yeah you can just stay away from bull shoals, those are all my fish!. Lol. No worries though, damn lake has been 30 feet high all year. I can't even launch.
So cool. Can’t believe we used to carry those big ole boxes around. But it was done with pride. Till a plastic worm got into one of the trays. You should feature the Sonic or the old Punkinseed
I'm trying to see if something works. Can someone just say something to me. I haven't been getting notifications from UA-cam. I want to know if the changes I made works.

how much are they worth . i have 2 of them fire tiger the 2 wiggle warts that i have are all original like hooks & split rings. a few scratches but other wise in great shape. i wonder if some one reading this or you would like to buy them . i never used it but it got a few scratches on it just being in my box with another lure next to it from the treble hooks .right its like over 20 years old . any way keep up the good work your videos are great. talk to you later. oh the 1 has a scratch on the top about 1/2 of a inch long from a treble hook . thats all and the other 1 is missing some paint on the bottom near the bill not much .like 1/2 long by 1/4 of a inch wide. they shine like new no more scratches. how can i send you a pic.
I dunno what state your in but here in Michigan we have a old lure we still use today called the K&E Magnum Basstopper in Pumpkinseed or purple w/white stripe, absolutely slaughter largemouth on them. My ol’ mans secret lure for decades now.
The box open is too big for the frame! hilarious!

Another awesome video! I see you’re using the Lews combo. You need to a video on old school Lews tackle.
I think of you every time I bust it out LOL. I actually picked up few old Abu's that I will have on the water shortly...
