    Hello Stephen,
Quite a few years ago when we bought our home, I discovered an old cast iron pan in the basement. As I was a cast iron newcomer, I asked around until I found out it was a BS&R #8. We had a new glass top stove, so I soon discovered it wobbled on the burner.
But somehow, it had been beautifully seasoned!!
So I cleaned it up, used a little crisco on it, and I now use it daily. Nothing sticks.
I call it my Elvis pan- because it rocks and rolls, just a little.
Recently I found your channel on UA-cam, and it’s teaching me a lot.
So keep up the good work!!

That’s a good point. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. That’s a time-tested statement.

I like purchasing my cast iron from eBay. I have never been scammed on there. Ebay prioritizes customer service, so if there is a problem and the the seller doesn't make it right, eBay will.

On ebay, it's usually not the buyers who are scammed... it's the sellers. And it's for exactly the reason you said. Ebay doesn't care much about the sellers. And on top of not caring about sellers, ebay takes like 15% of the sale price. That's why a lot of other marketplaces popped up for selling stuff.

I purchased all of my cast iron when I lived in Michigan. Griswold and Wagner. Hard to find here in Texas.

Do you have any special methods to clean up and reclaim real cast iron skillets and dutch ovens? I found my mother's and her mother's cast iron skillets and dutch oven when they were lost. They now are a rusted disaster and I know these can be recovered but I want to do it right to preserve them for the next generations to use. I'm almost 70 years old so you know these are very old. I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks. 😊

Sometimes rust can damage cast iron beyond repair. It will eat pits into the skillet. Somewhere in Stephans podcasts he shows how to strip an old crusty skillet using easy off. I tried it and it works great. There are steps to follow and it does require elbow grease. I was extremely pleased with the results. Be sure to get the easy off oven cleaner with the yellow cap.

@@annaburns5382 i have found pitted cast iron sitting in the woods filled with rainwater. i restored them and even with the pitting it doesn't affect how they perform. nothing sticks regardless. and i restored them by soaking in vinegar a few days, followed by a lot of elbow grease with a stainless steel scotch brite pad.

It depends how bad the rust is. If there is a lot of rust, using the electrolysis method is best because using vinegar won't help much.
