He was super poor like everybody else growing up, he always took up for the other kids who were not able to defend themselves from bullies and no one really ever had a bad thing to say about Mickey. Bailiffs are court staff. They are not personal protection. Protection is provided by a deputy and who would have expected something like this to happen.
As a layperson, the reporter is foolish to say she can't see "any other outcome" or whatever. A very obvious and likely alternative is a "crime of passion" charge, given what we ALREADY KNOW happened just before the shooting, namely regarding the phones.
Law enforcement and judges should not be closely associating. When I was a law clerk to a federal judge, at a pretrial conference one of the US Attorneys and I started talking about a shared interest and he invited me to lunch, I declined politely because it could create a conflict of interest for a judge's clerk and a prosecutor to have a close relationship. Any judge who can't recognize this appearance of impropriety, that person shouldn't be a judge.
I'm like 90% on board, but the way you worded the ending seems to leave room for interpretation regarding what "recognize his appearance of impropriety" means. e.g. If my fat and ugly female friend decides to accuse me of groping her at a party just because she doesn't like my politics and considers herself "somewhat of a powerful witch", does that magically turn her childish lie into my "appearance of impropriety"? If so, nah.
