    Just grabbed an MPC 2000 (Classic) and I think this is a good option to add. Thanks for covering this because like you said there is not a lot of info out here.

    If your gonna use the usb floppy emu... Just save your sounds as either .SND or .ASP files & yea you will need to trim them to save space.. Its not that bad.

    The one that I got from mpc stuff is actually zuluscsi. If you make your images for zuluscsi 512mb max you won’t have to deal with partitions you can’t see on the computer. Moving files is even better cause Zuluscsi doesn’t keep you in fat16. And you can see everything from the computer with the zulu

      Hey brother. Do I have to format the scsi2sd drive on the mpc? Every time I go thru the disk settings and scroll to get to the scsi section it freezes up with the wait........

    I was thinking about grabbing the floppy to usb emulator for my 2000xl but this looks a lot simpler than having to open the machine and risk messing something up. Hopefully this works on the 2000xl I plan on getting one this week.

    • @Swellthekid
      @Swellthekid  Рік тому +1

      Definitely better than the emulator. And it does work for the 2000xl. I recommend getting the scsi to sd. Thanks for stopping by Lex

      Don’t get that usb floppy emulator! Get the ATAPI (sd or compact flash) usb is a pain in the ass u gotta make 1000 floppys to use it and it’s complicated. Im returing mine & getting the hot swappable sd atapi reader

    My 2000 still powers, but the floppy drive is toast, so i can't load any sounds or make beats. If i purchase this unit will i be able to sample sounds to make beats? Thanks!

    • @Swellthekid
      @Swellthekid  6 місяців тому

      You will have to reformat the scsi drive in the mpc and add the OS to the scsi so the mpc has a boost file to operate on. Idk how you would be able to reformat the drive without booting up the mpc 2000 with a boot disk first. I would honestly consider getting the floppy drive replaced and then getting the scsi.

    We’re do you save your samples ? what partition? B is beats A format D is drums S=sample? my bad I’m new I should be getting my adapter Monday my xl collecting dust

    • @Swellthekid
      @Swellthekid  11 місяців тому +1

      You can save to whatever partition of your choosing on the card reader. I dont save samples separately. I only save my drums separately and beat’s separately. The other partitions I use to split up beats by feel etc.

    Just coming from an outsider asking this question. I've always been a guitar player first and foremost and have only in the last couple years started using a Roland TR-8S and a MC-707, as well as Maschine MK3. I've always kinda liked the MPC 2000XL just cause I like the way it looks. From watching lots of videos about this machine, it seems as though newer machines have far surpassed the capabilities of the 2000XL. Once you honed your sampling and chopping skills on the older machine isn't it easier & faster to just use a more modern piece of equipment? It seems like a lot of extra work to use the older machines. I'm just curious why people continue to use the older machines when the newer machines can save a lot of time. Is it just the way the older machines sound that you like or is it something different?

    • @Swellthekid
      @Swellthekid  8 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for the comment Mrku5iz8I! The way the 2000 sounds is why I still continue to use it. It’s also just simplicity of work flow. A lot of my homies have the newer machines and they are dope. It’s really just about what you’re looking for. If you’re wanting to record live instruments then I would recommend a more modern machine for all of the awesome internal FX and processing tools. The old machines are more for the old school fat sound of Hiphop. You can also achieve this sound with the modern machines with a little more work in post processing. All of the older MPC’s have different sounds. Kinda like guitars have different sound. It’s really about what kind of sound you’re trying to achieve.

      The bitdepths are different. The converters are different. The swing and quantization is different. The circuitry like DSP is different. Usually someone who is tapped into production gear, they can tell the sound of a 2000xl. It's distinguishable. There are legacy parameters on the newer mpc gear but that's just for the software stuff not hardware. The filters are different too. The dynamics and timbre are different.

      Because it's not about convenience. I love my MPC 200, because of the sound. I have a friend that still uses the MPC 3000 & that unit is a dinosaur, but the sound is amazing. Imo the 3000 is best sounding MPC of them all.

    • @Swellthekid
      @Swellthekid  6 місяців тому +1

      This is true. The 3000 was made when akai was still manufactured in Japan. They were made with better parts and Akai was still ran by Roger Linn. The mpc 2000 was the first machine made without Roger Linn and was manufactured in China. That's why these machines tend to have lots of problems.

      Where can I get a cheaper one? I bought the scsi sd card reader only used it twice before my adapter port broke off. I don’t feel like I was using that much force but it broke right on off. Thinking about buying another one, guess I’ll just have to be more careful next time.
