Dan you should recieve an award from the Queen in the Honors list for sharing such great info but not just sharing it`s the way yu do it so easy to follow and also enjoyable as many experts in the field just bore me to tears while others like to use alot of mumbo jumbo to make thm sound better than wha t they are. I have yet to see or hear a CCIE anywere who has the same talent as yourselfs. Your alsoi better than all my colllege lecturers combined.

Yeh that's right the local interface is the interface on the device you have run the command from, which is receiving the CDP updates and the remote id is the remote device interface which is sending them. I strongly suggest anyone doing the cisco exams, have this stuff nailed in.

Actually the local interface is for your device and the Port ID is the interface of the other device

I believe you have your Local Intrfce and Port ID backwards. The Local Intrfce is the port on the device in which you are running the command from. In this case the router that you performed #show cdp neighbors comman; the port that is connected to the switch is Fa0/0 and the port on the switch is Fa0/1

Great stuff, thanks! The fact that CDP sends out info about the platform such as a 2960 Switch reminds me of why they said in a lesson one time to turn off CDP in segments where it's not needed. I seem to remember it's needed for VoIP though, but not sure.

why this command never shows a host connected too ?
There is even a category for host as "H" in the 'show cdp neighbors' table !

What if I have a nonmanaged switch in between two cisco switches? Will show cdp neigbors show them as directly connected? What will happen?
