Thank you so much, I have a ccna class but your explanations always answer all my questions. So thank you for helping me reach a goal for a better life.
I'm refreshing my memory on IOS CLI for NAT and have to say that your videos are absolutely fantastic. Well explained without overdoing or overcomplicating it. Thank you!
Lol I'm doing the same... my job right now is too much Servers and not enough IOS CLI.... refreshing my memory right before I hit the job market and this was much needed because although I knew how to NAT the issues was with the inside and outside Global which I understand perfectly now thanks to this guy. Big Salute. P.S. I hope you find a way to get your hands back, that was a tragic ending =[
This is the best explanation of this concept I have seen so far. Very easy to understand. Thanks for providing this valuable resource. My CCENT exam is tomorrow.
Thanks a lot for the clear and concise explanation to the supposedly simple concept that Cisco made so confusing!! I'm talking about the outside local and outside global terminologies.
Great video and good quality, but one thing I was missing as a starting networks magician is showing the common mistakes and how they look like as well. Like if you put some wrong IP or put the nat type wrong way around, wrong way in and out.
Please do!!!, I have learned a lot with your videos, I love the way you explain is just so easy to understand. And if possible can you do a video explaining how to configure BGP?
In other words, if it's a global address, it's a publicly assigned address (per the ISPs). If it's a local address, it's a privately assigned address. Inside means it's your network. Outside means it's someone else's network.
Nevermind. I had posted something about you putting the wrong router. I was wrong. I was using ? to see the command options as I followed along, and when you do ip nat inside source . . . it doesn't show those commands from the interface prompt, and it won't read the command unless it's completed all the way. When it's fully completed, then it reads the command and applies it. I assume this is a convenience function, and that the command is normally done from the configuration prompt, not from the interface prompt. I assume that normally the interface prompt requires that one types the ip nat inside command, and then backs out to the configuration prompt and types the ip nat inside source ..... command. And I presume this is why in the show run, running configuration, it shows ip nat inside at the interface and ip nat inside source ...... in the general configuration after all of the interfaces are listed.
Awesome Series Videos!! I added modules to the "The Cloud" but the traffic does not pass through the gateways (YourRouter and Company) when the "The Cloud" is in between I tried to connect YourRouter to Company and the traffic pass-through
I liked your videos but one of my question before applying NAT translation command to company router do we have to advertise the networks through router EIGRP/RIP or not?
great video but you don't show the ip routing technologies you used so I'm having a real hard time getting it to work. would also love to see NAT with vlan
I learned more in 5 minutes then a whole semester at community college. Sadly the teachers here are just horrible for networking stuff. They have no idea how to explain ANYTHING to somebody who doesn’t already know.
Am I missing something here Dan? Unfortunately, I cannot get the webpage at 9:54 so, am I correct in assuming that an access list will have to be created plus IP routes on both routers?
Hi dan when you are doing the 1 to 1 pat or dynamic do you have to individually assign the extra ips to the outgoing router interface with the secondary ip command etc.. ?
Hi Sir. thanks for the super clear video, I've got a question about the g0/0. Because we have two public ip addresses, we don't need to have two network interfaces? Also I ask you why in the static translation setup we need to write first the private ip address if the request comes from the "outside" ip address, the translate doesn't should be from external to internal because of the request?
CAN Dan or anybody else help with this?:?????? I am following your lab using the provided file in the description. At 8:54 after ip nat inside, the next command is not recognised? I am still on the g0/1 interface but 'ip nat inside' is all i can write in this command - it does not accept 'source static etc.." Can anyone help me with this?
In the video you do an example of NAT conversion only on port 80. How would you go about testing that the NAT config ONLY converts port 80 requests? Debug command? Or can it be done with the "virtual" PCs in the Packet Tracer program?
I downloaded the PT, but it is compeltely messed up. Think it might have to do with the PT software updates. I myselve am using 7.3.1. I tried dragging the messed up aprts to a better location, but it stays bad looking,
Hi I tried to set static nat using outside instead of inside, but it is not working if IP order is swapped in relevance of outside point of view. I expected that if outside is used then first must be public IP and then must be local IP. Why IP order is the same regardless of using inside or outside key word in nat command?
IDK how he was able to do that on the conf interface mode. I'm trying to figure that out myself. *But I do know* that that command is used in global config and it works that way... which is the way i thought you're supposed to do it. And now I'm confused too >_>
Does the "Cloud" do anything in this exercise or it just representing the Internet? It has no config and sits on the cross over cable. Im troubleshooting connectivty between the two routers as it barks about interfaces not being on same network and dropping packets
Well never mind. If you put the wrong mask and no gateway on honeypot, all sorts of chaos reigns.. Gateways and masks are the basics and should e checked first before thinking you have a more lofty issue.
DAN if you can... It'd be nice if you could do an example of NAT... Where traffic is traversing ONLY ONE... NAT router !!! Because the nomenclature changes AGAIN in such a design! Inside Local/Global SEEMS to remain the same.... BUT Outside Local and Global seem to be INVERTED!!! HELP! lol
Inside Local/Global...Outside Local/Global... CISCO WOULD BE BETTER SERVED USING WORDS LIKE.... Source Local/Global..... and Destination Local/Global WOULD BE LESS CONFUSING!!! :-/
I've watched about 100 of your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge of these concepts.
That's great Michael, thank you for your support and feedback.
yeah to dans like a first aid, when ever I have confusions i just watch his videos and go to his lessons from his website. thanks dan . kudos!
Thank you so much, I have a ccna class but your explanations always answer all my questions. So thank you for helping me reach a goal for a better life.

I study Cisco CCNA in the module three and all your videos are excellent. Thank you so much and greetings from Costa Rica!
That is great, right on time!
Yo aquí pariendo con nat/pat/ y un poco con ACL.
Danscourses, your videos are the best.
Bro!! I have been struggling with this topic FOREVER! Thank you so much for your explanation!
I have my ICND1 exam today watching these as last minute revision on the subjects Im less sure of. Great video, thanks! Fingers crossed for my exam!
Yeah!
Packet tracer generally is a confusing mess to me and you're making it so clear you're saving my silly ass.
You are one of the best online teacher I have ever come through... Thanks a lot!!!
You came through him? Graphic..........
Dear Dan, you're so nice and so clear, may God bless you
you are awesome and a great teacher inspires me!
i always watch your videos and ...its amazing that i can i understand you better
for me u the best .....better than ma lecturer
This is the best explanation of this concept I have seen so far. Very easy to understand. Thanks for providing this valuable resource. My CCENT exam is tomorrow.
Thanks Dan.Im currently dowing my CISCO and all your videos are of really helping me.Thanks so so much.God Bless u.cheers
You are my angel !!
I am electrical eng. and forced to study this course !!
Thank you for providing clarity on this topic.
Dan,
That´s the perfect channel for learning about network simulator, I am learning a lot with you on packet tracer simulator.
Thanks for your contribution towards Network Newbies like me.
Passed CCENT /./ Thanks Mr. Dan your videos are great.
That's great Don, good job and thanks for reaching out!
That was the nice way you have explained... you have cleared my NAT doubts. Thank You
you Make Cisco looks so easy Dans Thank you
You have my gratitude Dan. I've learned a ton from your videos!
It's cool.. This is the best way to learn
You're explained really simply way...
I thank you Vishnu!
Thanks a lot for the clear and concise explanation to the supposedly simple
concept that Cisco made so confusing!! I'm talking about the outside local
and outside global terminologies.
Good explanation of out/in local and out/in global.
thank you
Hi, Sir you still the best for ever
I'm working towards my CCNA and your videos resolve any questions that arise from studying the Cisco CCENT/CCNA ICND1 and 2 books.
Thank you David for your encouragemen and support
Awesome! Thank you. i got my ccent coming up in less than a month.
Great video and good quality, but one thing I was missing as a starting networks magician is showing the common mistakes and how they look like as well. Like if you put some wrong IP or put the nat type wrong way around, wrong way in and out.
Wow !....this is so lovely. you are a hero and blessing Sir !
this guy is a genius
I like the way you explain everything. I wish i had you as teacher. But unfortunately...
Thank you, I will have to post more resources then!
Please, do so. Your tutorials are excellent. Thanks for making them.
Please do!!!, I have learned a lot with your videos, I love the way you explain is just so easy to understand. And if possible can you do a video explaining how to configure BGP?
introductory BGP is now included in the CCNA and I will be making a video on it

Welcome back Dan, long time no see :p
great video but you don't show the ip routing technologies you used so I'm having a real hard time getting it to work. would also love to see NAT with vlan

hi Dan.what are the preconfigured IP addresses for the routers?are there static routes there?thank you
Thank you so much , i have question , how to configure "The Cloud" ? without config cloud how to connect both site.
That's just what I needed to know, thanks.
Excellent!
hi Dan...it would be very useful if that cloud would be plugged and a scenario made based on it.... and not just for visual understanding
Very useful video. It helped me a lot. Thank you so much.
In case anyone wonders - the "Cloud" is just an image over the crossover and only represents the internet.
Great explanations, thanks, so clear now, hahah
Am I missing something here Dan? Unfortunately, I cannot get the webpage at 9:54 so, am I correct in assuming that an access list will have to be created plus IP routes on both routers?
In your second example, If router operates on layer 3 how it can understand port 80?
That’s what PAT does, it’s a variation of Nat so it attaches a port at the end of the packets
How does the company router have two IP addresses on the 0/0 interface? Thanks appreciate the videos
Excellent ... Well done ...
Hi dan when you are doing the 1 to 1 pat or dynamic do you have to individually assign the extra ips to the outgoing router interface with the secondary ip command etc.. ?
I like this guy!
hi dan, very helpful video, but seems your website is down so I can't download the packet tracer file:(
This was really helpful, thank you!!
do we need to configure something in the "your router" ?
more than amazing... thanks a lot
Great video thanks for your effort
Thank youuuu so helpful!!

Can anyone help me with this?
thanks for the help man. really appreciate the easy way you explain stuff! can I just ask what software you are using as I'm just starting with Cisco!
Andy Waters it's called packet tracer
In this video Packet Tracer 6.3
In the video you do an example of NAT conversion only on port 80.
How would you go about testing that the NAT config ONLY converts port 80 requests?
Debug command? Or can it be done with the "virtual" PCs in the Packet Tracer program?
Easy try reaching the same ip address using https which will test port 443 and it will fail without a translation rule
Ahh good call.
Thanks for the videos and response.
Can't access the website link, or any part for your web site.
How do you simulate public IP addresses that are configured on a modem, like what you would have in real life?
I downloaded the PT, but it is compeltely messed up. Think it might have to do with the PT software updates. I myselve am using 7.3.1. I tried dragging the messed up aprts to a better location, but it stays bad looking,
Hi Dan, where i can get the packet tracer config video ?
why first "ip nat inside" was put in interface and second in configuration? Current version of Packet tracer doesn't allow to put it in interface
What if we have a DHCP server inside a NATed environment. Will it be able to assign IP to hosts which are outside the same LAN? Please help.
Hi I tried to set static nat using outside instead of inside, but it is not working if IP order is swapped in relevance of outside point of view. I expected that if outside is used then first must be public IP and then must be local IP. Why IP order is the same regardless of using inside or outside key word in nat command?
On pc0 i got requested time what should i do now
Thank you!
What simulator are you using?
The website link no longer works. Does anyone know where his files can be found online?
They are routable but ISP's block those addresses
i couln't understand how did you configured 2 public IP addresses on g0/0 of company router
@danscourses
where can i find more videos
of this guy his very good
iam getting an error when trying to click on the link to get the file ?
Help. I can't seem to type the "ip nat inside source static" part of the tutorial
IDK how he was able to do that on the conf interface mode. I'm trying to figure that out myself. *But I do know* that that command is used in global config and it works that way... which is the way i thought you're supposed to do it. And now I'm confused too >_>
Im confused about the inside global and inside local and at the beginning you type in ip nat out and ip nat inside.
it is confusing. inside global is your wan interface (ip nat outside) and the inside local are your lan interfaces (ip nat inside)
Thank you for the response I got it now. It's so easy to understand your video tutorials 👍👍👍
Does the "Cloud" do anything in this exercise or it just representing the Internet? It has no config and sits on the cross over cable. Im troubleshooting connectivty between the two routers as it barks about interfaces not being on same network and dropping packets

god bless you sir !
Many thanks!
That stuff is amazing! would you mind sharing CCNP stuff?
Sure! its in the works
Private ip addresses are routable
Thank you
Muy Bueno.
HELP! lol
and even i am not able to download a file
thanks
sirr kuch smjh nai ai...NA level prr itni mushkil lab
Cool.
Whai is the name of this simulator
Cisco packet tracer
Shouldn't #2 be called PORT FORWARDING !?
nice
👌🏽
Sound is not good
This cloud is fake! It is not attached to the routers! Now I reach the other network xD
whats up with the sound
veri gud me now know
Inside Local/Global...Outside Local/Global...
CISCO WOULD BE BETTER SERVED USING WORDS LIKE....
Source Local/Global..... and Destination Local/Global
WOULD BE LESS CONFUSING!!! :-/
it's like they are just out to find the most outrageous naming scheme :)
Your reply helps
Shouldn't #2 have been called PORT FORWARDING....
If #3 is ALSO PAT (Port Address Translation) !!!????
Yet ANOTHER confusing aspect of NAT!
The meraki dashboard is hopefully easier 😅
