I always come back to this video to admire the limit performance of even the pedestrian 525i wagon. Notice how the body squats on all 4 wheels under braking, instead of leaning forward like most cars. Also, the braking distance is exceptional, even by today’s standards. BMW was truly at the top of their game back in the 90s!
One of the prettiest sedans they built. I've owned a E34 for 9 years, and still love looking at it too. "Very handsome" - as one admirer said. "Beautiful car" I've got from a teen as well. Solid, quiet, durable, sophisticated, handles very well, respectable mileage and very reliable.
Love this! One of my favorite retro reviews so far. It's still gorgeous in my opinion. And it's amazing they had panoramic like sunroofs way back then. On a side note, what's with the former obsession with "oil pressure" & "volt meter" gages
Sad to say I bought a crossover, a 2011 Acura MDX 3.7L, it is a fun crossover though, has great pick up, and full time AWD. Gets like 16mpg though, due to the full time AWD and it likes to rev so I rev it. I have wanted a cts-v wagon myself, I own an 08' cadillac STS now, and that is very similar to the CTS but slightly larger. If they bring back the CTS-V wagon, I'll trade both my cars in to get it, it does everything I could ever need it to do, but from the reviews I seen, it get single digit MPG's if you drive it with any sort of spirit. zech007
The Bimmer of course. The Volvo is FWD, the Audi is an exotic car. Allergic to neglect, and technically fragile. The engine's thermals for instance. But most of all, the BMW 530i has a V8 from heaven. And it was available as a manual, unlike the 540i. Secret insider advice: Mercedes W210 E430 Estate. Rare as fuck, and faster than anything mentioned above. The W210 has a bad rep for rust, keeping prices low. But most has long been repaired or replaced under warranty. Mechanically it's nuke proof.
@1:18 The 0-60 time at 11.5 seconds seems kinda slow. The E36 325i with the same M50 engine does it in 8 seconds. I realise the 5 series is heavier but still. Was it an automatic?
0-60 in 11.5 seconds!!!? What auto box did that car have.. a 2 speeder? lol Still looks quite smart after over 25 years though. probably more reliable than new cars too.
0 to 60 in 11.5 seconds lmfao it should be more like 9 and a half seconds, this right here is why you should first learn how to drive a car and then buying a bmw, in Germany we say, if you want an automatic buy a mercedes ! BMW is for car enthusiast so manual is always the way to go ! (atleast for the older models)
Funny how a TV Team is not able to set the recording volume to the right level. I cant watch that, with the oversaturated sound, that clipping kill my ears.
Naj, sedan manual version of this made 0-60 in 8.6 seconds .... the 540i V8 version made 0-60 in a little over 6 seconds ... this version M50B25t was a model with low power, 192 ps and 2.5 ccm inline six is not big power output ... but BMW is not known for fast 0-60 times, its is for speed on track.
I wouldn't say 2.5l inline six with 192bhp was bad for 1992 standards. Ok, it was not fast, due to the automatic trans, and weight, but not slow either. This engine in the sedan and manual trans made the E34 go 0-100 kph in 8.5 seconds, and it was very fast going from 60-100 kph if you needed to overtake someone. Timeless car, amazing looks, amazing engine reliability and amazing exhaust note. I still see E34's almost every day on the road due to it's build quality 30 years ago.

I just picked one of these beauties up a couple of days ago. I can't stop looking at it. I love these cars!

Vincent Sumait How’s she going so far?
2 things, how much and 1 year update please
Those are the best feelings in the world!

+prl08 Just one of those 'peace of mind' things, keep an eye on how its doing. I prefer to have them as well.
The things I'd do to get one of these in a 5 speed trim....
There's a few out there for sale that have already been 5-speed swapped, otherwise you can swap one yourself- it's pretty darn easy.
The volt meter is one of hidden OBC options.
Flat handling, no dive on stops, cruise at 100mph+ all day, and carries the goods. Saw a sweet old 540i Touring the other day!
I'm so glad that i own a 525i Touring in darkblue metallic.
Lazurblau metallic?
Orientblau? Regardless, hay blue bmw wagon buddy 👋
@@rocketsalad yes Orientblau
@@bloodshoot1115 well then wassup orientblau touring buddy :)
I grew up my later school years in citrus heights and lived down the street from the guy that owned that chevy master deluxe! such a nice car!
My friend's mom had one of these when new. The ride was very BMW hard and controlled. Nice car.
777jones Yeah, BMWs don’t hide the road from the driver, you really know what’s going on under the rubber.
Touring wagons need to make a comeback. Cadillac needs to make a wagon CTS-V for the 2016 model!
***** Tell your friends! There seems like very limited demand in the states, so we don't get them.

All my car friends love it, it's the non car people that are like, "who wants a 640hp station wagon mom mobile"
***** Wagons are a dying breed because of Crossovers... General consumers demands boring cars.

"Mom mobile" I've heard that too. Yet every mom drives a crossover. How is a sporty wagon a mom mobile then? People are nuts. :)
I LOVE how you included the COTW at the end of this RR!!!!!!!
Y does this look so beautiful now? Simple elegant lines
I have this car now in 2020 omg 😱 wow I should drive it like this now lol
Are their any videos of the 5 series from 1980-1989 the E28 body style?
please post the e39 review 528i! Thank you
During the 0 to 60 test, the engine did take forever to max out.
Love these‼️ I want a V8
Okay fellow viewers: 850 Turbo wagon? Audi S4 wagon (five-speed)? Or 530iT (five-speed)? It's such a hard decision. I think I'd choose the Bimmer.
850 is FWD, the B5 S4 is a bitch for maintenance but would be the fastest. The 530 unless you have the money to keep up with the 2.7tt
The Bimmer of course. The Volvo is FWD, the Audi is an exotic car. Allergic to neglect, and technically fragile. The engine's thermals for instance. But most of all, the BMW 530i has a V8 from heaven. And it was available as a manual, unlike the 540i.

No US E34 Tourings came with manuals.
Here's a MotorWeek Retro Review of the BMW 525i Touring Wagon from 1993.
@1:18 The 0-60 time at 11.5 seconds seems kinda slow. The E36 325i with the same M50 engine does it in 8 seconds. I realise the 5 series is heavier but still. Was it an automatic?
DigitalDrifter yes auto I imagine it probably 10 if manual but the normal 525i manual goes 0-60 in 7.5 seconds
2:49 The rear end unloaded rather sharply? The video so other wise.
0-60 in 11.5 seconds!!!? What auto box did that car have.. a 2 speeder? lol Still looks quite smart after over 25 years though. probably more reliable than new cars too.
4-speed auto, GM 4L60, and boy whatta fun-sucking dog that box was 👎
motorweek has so many bmw E34 tests lol
+incyphe still waiting for a 540i review :p
Love it, got my eye on a white one
***** do you have an 80's Mercedes videos like 560 sel or 300e?
0 to 60 in 11.5 seconds lmfao it should be more like 9 and a half seconds, this right here is why you should first learn how to drive a car and then buying a bmw, in Germany we say, if you want an automatic buy a mercedes ! indeed.
11.5 swecond 0 - 60? Wow. How about posting the e34 540i 6spd road test if you guy's tested it.
Is that Gustavo Fring?
Wasn’t there a 530i touring available for the U.S. market then?
not in 93' i dont think
We didn’t get the 530iT until 1994, and even then we only got 481 of them from ‘94-96
E34 Touring: Great car? or _GREATEST CAR?_
I love the e34s but damn that is one slow vehicle lol
M51D25 💪🔥😎💨♥️
Behind the C-pillar, you mean...
that is some flat braking
Bunu da izledik
Wow--3800 pounds.
Funny how a TV Team is not able to set the recording volume to the right level. I cant watch that, with the oversaturated sound, that clipping kill my ears.
SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AltaSonata your slow
Could be the slowest Bmw ever?
Naj, sedan manual version of this made 0-60 in 8.6 seconds .... the 540i V8 version made 0-60 in a little over 6 seconds ... this version M50B25t was a model with low power, 192 ps and 2.5 ccm inline six is not big power output ... but BMW is not known for fast 0-60 times, its is for speed on track.
11.5 sec 0-60!!??? the camry was even faster than that🤣🤣😂 and the es300
On automatic?
Pleased Don,t Jag
Mobil impian
That was slow by 1992 standards. And expensive by 1992 standards. I'd pass.
That's probably chalked up to the automatic tranny.
At least the handling and braking is superb.
pbfloyd13
Automatic transmissions have come a long ways in 22 years, that's for sure.
I still see E34's almost every day on the road due to it's build quality 30 years ago.
old BMWs lost full 1 to 2 seconds in 0-60 just due to automatic transmissions. You had to be drunk to buy an automatic BMW !
I dont believe its 0-60 times with m50b25 is more than 10 seconds. What a bullshit
M50b25 isn’t exactly known for being a fast engine, especially the nv 😂
