Thank you for gathering and producing this footage from your friend. The Underground in 1999... this is the Underground that I was infatuated by, that was more important to me than anything else at the time. A quarter of a century on, and nearly 20 years into a life sentence there, my feelings have evolved somewhat. Some aspects still fascinate me, but if you turn a hobby into a career it is possible for the hobby to suffer somewhat.
Yes, Ravenscourt Park would be the same; there was a time back in the 80's when all Piccadilly Line trains stopped at Turnham Green on Sundays, but this was discontinued, with only an early morning/late evening Piccadilly service remaining. Chiswick Park would have been even worse, as you only had the District Line trains to and from Ealing Broadway, not the Richmond ones.
It was nice to see the sights and sounds of the old underground trains and seeing guards on the trains again and how new the jubilee line trains looked, thanks for the trip down memory lane and have a great weekend
It seems quite nostalgic seeing the '59 Stock again, amid all the commentary in places elsewhere about the 1972 Stock on the Bakerloo now being the oldest!!
Love the wheel spin as the driver motors up just around the 1min mark. Happy memories of driving these beasts in the days when the Northern 4 different stocks - 5 if you count the couple of prototype 56 units.
Really nice to hear that you inspired someone else to purchase a camcorder and go and shoot some scenes. It's because of people like you and Jon that we have as rich a record of public transport (and life) as we do. Thanks for digitising them and sharing them with the masses.
My pleasure.... it was seeing a friends cine films from the 1960s that inspired me to get a video and get filming, so really, we can go back to an even older generation of enthusiasts....
Thank you for posting this. I remember catching these to Caledonian Road at 11. New Jubilee Line trains looked straight from Back To The Future at the time!
The '59 stock is still in use ( ! ) to transport rail workers at night to do some maintenance , I had to refurbish some of the traction motor ( electrical frames ) ...... DAVE™🛑
Yes indeed ! they split the grey '59 train up into two cars , take the seats out of one for the engineers greasy tools , while they sit in the other car , and scoot around at 3am fixing all manner of stuff @@peterdeutscher1442
1973 Stock is undergoing refurbishment. 6:14 - D78 Stock will undergo refurbishment work from 2004 to 2007, similar to Kawasaki C151 in SMRT Trains. 1959 and 1962 Stocks are undergoing retirement and replacing it with 1995 Stock in Northern Line. It was expected that 1972 Stock could be staying, but ended up used to increase capacity by moving the fleet over. Now the 1972 and 1973 Stock is replacing it with 2024 Stock (166 trains).
I grew up on the Northern Line (next stop Finchley Central) from the start of the vid - Snatcher Land. Anyway, it was a part of my commuting life '81 and '96. That came to an end when I got married and I made it very clear to my wife that it was impossible I would live without the Underground, and definitely not south of the river. So, er, that's how I ended up in Sarf London (Blackheath), and to my surprise, I found it was an easy adjustment to make, and ever since, I'm no longer keen on the Underground, at all ... and please, someone tell me, when did it become so horribly noisy. Especially the grating on the tracks!!!!
I remember an announcement on on '59 Stock just about to leave Camden Town,"Good afternoon, welcome aboard the Northern Line museum piece to Kennington via Charing Cross."
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus 1995 Stock is gradually replacing it. This reminds me of R32 and R42. For Berlin U-Bahn, they are trying to scrap D, DL and E class trains only. F trains gradually follow suit from 2017.

That old stock was classic, and a very familiar tube sound for decades!
Stamford Brook was my local station where I would often wait 20 mins for a District Line train while 30 Piccadilly Line trains would pass.

Stamford Brook is also my local station ;)
@@MrGriser it's quicker to walk to Hammersmith & take the Piccadilly Line into London or Hounslow.
Same at Chiswick Park tube station
@@lizhumphries9100 I don't know about that Acton Town is quite a long walk and you've got those level crossings to navigate.

Thank you for your kind comments.....
The two A-stock running the same way, side by side is the catch of the day.

incredible how unevenly battered that lain approach up the slope from that portal there
Nice London Underground video from memory lane Soi Buakhao
It's cool seeing the guards by the open doors on the older trains. You certainly wouldn't see that these days.
No you wouldn't unfortunately.
You see it on the DLR
I remember these, when I first came to London!
No one cares
Looks good. It's nice to have a piece of history on the platform for the newer generations to see
My pleasure......
1:03 this is the year the 1959 tube stock gave way to the new 1995 tube stock on the northern line
Loved the old 1938 stock going to school from Colindale to Hendon Central.
Nice to hear the Jubilee Line terminating at Charring Cross.
Yes, it wasn't long before the Stratford extension would open and Charing Cross Jubilee became a ghost station.....
Old is Gold!✨
That reminds me of travelling on the train, especially back in the day before they stopped using them
Your comment makes no sense.

Not being a Londoner one thing I can never get over is how long the trains are on the tube.

1972mk1 stock had been withdrawn from the Northern line by this time, some went to the Bakerloo and Victoria line.
Lovely stuff

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Good man, thank you for that. I've left a comment as well. Good memories!
So many people say Blackheath when it's really Kidbrooke LOL
holy! had the A stock been lacquered, because I don't recall their aluminum origins as ever being (all) glossily shiny? 👀
By the time of this vid they had been refurb'd and repainted..... The A60s haven't looked shiny since the early 1980s......
It is weird to think that the 1973 stock was refurbished 25 years ago, more than half a lifetime away
And that the 1996 stock are that old as well
What about the East London Line that was part of the London Underground before it closed in 2007 and reopened as part of the East London Line.
Yes a newest old footage In 2024
Wow the Underground looked like a sh*thole in the 90s.
The jubilee stock must’ve looked so futuristic back then.
Metropolitan and District has got the same s stock train
Only 6 cars on the Jubilee stock then.
I hate how all of these comments are literally just bots with bad English saying the most random facts that everyone knows already

Where is the 1995 stock isn’t it 1999
He didn't appear to film any of those on this trip out.....

this video is soo old
Is it me or do those 59/62s look rather beaten up?
Hm??? 🤔
They were starting to be withdrawn by now so they weren't getting too much TLC....
