At LAST I got a ROLAND FANTOM G6 !!

- I can't deny that the massive display was the main thing that has made me covet this keyboard for so long. I really knew nothing about the sounds apart from Roland's confident sales pitch about its piano sounds. The screen was indeed hugely impressive (and there are more exciting details to come relating to that) but it turns out that the best piano sounds are not immediately available. They're worth searching for, though. There are plenty of fun synth sounds in this demo as well, and another video will be uploaded soon!
I know these feels - and will feel them again once that perfect DX7 is sitting in my own studio - so congrats, brother! Looking forward to part two, some really cool sounds there!
My fav is the Roland Fantom X series due to the fact that I played it and ultimately bought it when my dear first wife was alive and indeed the songs I made for her and about her where with the X. The sounds I used are also only available on the X. The G and any other version seems to omit the ONE tone I used mainly in the X for my songs to my Aixa.. But at face value as a keyboard, the Fantom G is very nice as most ROLAND synths are! BTW, the tone I love on the X is called AMORE or something to that effect. It is a guitar, mixed with bell like sound, and a bendy guitar that bends when you press the keys harder. The other is BOWED STRINGS, which varies its attack from fast to slow depending on how fast you play the keys and is layered strings of several octaves up or down for more powerful lush sound.
Agreed. I've actually hear better synths, but for sheer usuability and good old fun, I'm yet to see anything more broadly satisfying.
God bless you and your late wife, your comment was so heartwarming and touching brother she’s proud of you keep making music keep expressing ,keep honoring her.The Roland fantom x series has beautiful sounds in it,I have the x rack,I will be buying the fantom g soon .I just lost my gf to a certain circumstance so I know I’ll be using the g as more therapy ,music is therapy I love it 🙌🏾😎thank you for your comment very heartwarming
@@souljashyne God bless you too, and thankyou for the kind words! Amen! God is good. Yes use that keyboard to make sweet music! It iS therapy. It is the voice of the soul actually.
Many thanks @gearfacts and @freddiesamples. My G6 has arrived 😁.
Oh man. Nice! And I knew you'd collect up those subs man. Im one of your first and love how you remained yourself through it all. Hell I'm just now starting to grow since I started messing with guitara. I used my Yamaha Moxf6 on last few uploads making my own songs to solo over. Stay you brother. Support you all the way.
I appreciate this message, RC. A UA-camr so often questions if (s)he's on the right track. Apart from trying to work a bit more humor into it, Gearfacts will carry on business as usual :)
Congrats!
Thanks BM :)
Best Workstation Roland ever produced. It's a whole studio and live performace keyboard in one machine. Everything is perfectly integrated with each other. I got a G6 and now also a G7. They don't make it like that anymore. For more sounds just use an Integra 7 or XV 5080/5050.
You can create studio sets on the Integra 7 and just use the external page to play those sets from the G6/7/8.
I just love that you can use a mouse with it :)
Incredible I enjoyed watching it 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
I have a Fantom G8 and a G6. Added drums & keyboard cards to the G8 and 1gig of added sample memory to both. These are serious workstations. I use with and without a DAW & Control all my other hardware via midi/usb. The new Fantoms lack with sampling and that nice blue button called skipback sampling. The G's are built very good and I like the weight on both of these and yes that massive display & tempo screen. A lot of flexability working with both hardware and software. Glad you got one, Enjoy!
Hello, I'm looking to buy the X6 or G6 for production. Main uses are sequencing entire songs, sampling sounds/importing one shot drums and recording scratch vocals/hooks for the sequenced songs. I like the speed and compact screen of the X6. I don't need a whole lot of new sounds as I'll be mostly importing and sampling drums/sounds to sequence. Is the G as fast or faster with navigation/commands? Do you think I'd be better served by the G6? Gearfacts gives the nod to the G if I can afford it--curious on your thoughts? Thanks much!!

Both will do what you want to achieve. The difference is "more" wave forms, sample memory, audio tracks, effects, etc. Improved workflow with 8 sliders and expanded front panel. I use the sample function a lot and the screen, controls and memory are superior to the X6. Get the G6.
@@freddiesamples Ok, great information, many thanks!
The Fantom G6 arrived today, thanks again. Have been reading and watching tutorials-more work to do of course but have made a good start :).
Thank you for the cool video
Cheers Marcus :)
i was so happy to come across this posting. I saw many videos most 10 years old about the Fantom G. I was trying to decide between the new Fantom and the G sereies. I have subscribed and hope you will have more videos on the great keyboard. I finally decided to get a Fantom G6 along with the ARX03 brass expansion card. The band that I play in has a lot of R&B songs that need a brass section and out of all of the keyboards that I saw out there, the Fantom G with the ARX 03 brass card was the best. I may eventually look at getting the new Fantom, or maybe just a good 88 controller that I can midi up to my other ones including the G. Thanks again for the video and hope to see more on the G! I have both liked and subcribed.
Ahh stick to the G, Gary - I've seen nothing superior in the more recent versions :) And it's funny you should ask if I have another video about it, because I think I do. I'll check my archives and publish it tonight (prime tie in the US). Thanks for getting in touch! Glynn
It's a bit of a beast. Has some nice sounds
Is that a new channel intro too? I like it 😎
It is, but just for that video ..I was trying to make it funny like some kind of spiritual experience :)
You should try layering and splits in live mode, you can also connect a mouse to the Fantom G. I've moved on to Arturia V-Collection and dual controllers, I can do so much more than I could with Famtom G. And since Roland abandoned support for the Fantom G, it's become basically just a very heavy boat anchor for me. I'm still trying to sell my G8 and will never get ripped off by Roland again. I have many hardware synths, but this one isn't a keeper for me. :(
Hello CH, yes there are some great features, I've made this follow-up video - Not public yet, so this preview is just for you at this stage. I'd be interested to know what you think: ua-cam.com/video/h-AOl6S3rzs/v-deo.html
Please I am for India my fantom G6 keyboard purchase
basically Pro Tools in a keyboard
Yep, and I love that you can control it with a mouse.
Oh yeah...
Was there ever a part 2 video?
No, I never got to make it sorry
Hi ....do you know how i can record the drums from my tr8 s as a midi track on my G 6 sequencer ?
Just Switch It On.
You Only Live Once.
Ha ha that was a funny moment, I really enjoyed playing that trick :-)
I had a chance to get one, about three years ago. I passed and got an FA instead. Still not sure if that was the best choice.
Video #2 coming very soon. I think it will reveal the answer to you :)
I got a G6. I had thoughts about to change to the FA when it came but I didnt. I really like the sequencer in the G6. Its really easy to use.
I bought an Integra 7 instead as a complement.
The weird thing with the G6 is that its much heavier then the FA. Its about 2,5 times heavier. The G6 is built like a tank. I dont know why it is that way.
Do you like your FA?
@@grimlund I loved it, but I swapped it for an MPC 4000 when I got my MODX.
In hindsight, the G may have been the better choice.
I gave up looking for a G of any size over last year and found a FA07 for a great price. I love the sounds of the FA07 (and the keybed so much better than the FA06) but the drawbars, screen interface and sequencer is what I really still miss from a G.
If you want to make or convert velocity switched multi-sample patches you should buy Chicken System's Creator Fantom edition. It's also the only way to copy and paste such patches between Projects without using YASE. Sadly you can't buy YASE anymore.
You should keep a Mac with macOS 10.10/11/12 to use with the Fantom. Driver 1.0.1 does not work with 10.13.6
Go to Rolands Support website to download all the in depth tutorial handbooks! This machine is a DAW & Llve Performance monster, but you really have to learn it's UI. It's much easier to use than Kronos or Motif.

Because I m from India and I ready to purchase new piece .
I had a G for about 6 years and never really liked its sound. The pianos in particular are especially crap.
Hmm I thought they were ok but there would be better-tuned ears out there than mine. What workstation are you using now?
@@gearfacts I got a modx8 after selling the G but sold it 6 months later due to not getting on with the keybed but great sounding synth. Somehow I've now ended up with a jd800, virus ti, yamaha s80 and jdxi.
Don't think I'll ever sell the virus and the s80 is quite underrated.
@@stuartvincent8662 Interesting mix of synths! At the moment for me it's the Roland Gaia, M-audio Venom, Yamaha PSS690 and a whole lot of stuff I never touch.
I've always liked the look of the venom! Not sure of how common this is but I've got a few synths but never get anything together in the form of a track. I annoy myself, I can't find a DAW to inspire or motivate me. 🤷🏼♂️😁
