The name of the reel is "Saint Anne's Reel" from Newfoundland and Tip: If you want to stop the spoons from slipping off your fingers while playing roll a bit of electrical tape around the end of each spoon.
Y'all, I've been working on learning Spoons since I discovered Abby the Spoon Lady, like 3 year's ago on UA-cam. Spoons are amazingly easy and incredibly hard at the same time. I can do the Steven Seagulls cover of Thunderstruck but that's about it. I will get better with time and practice, this really is a lost art ❤
I learnt to play the spoons because of tom, make sure you do NOT hit your leg too hard, i have a big bruise when i first started playing, but now i LOVE playing the spoons, big thanks to TOM.
It’s pretty good, the fact he’s using actual metal spoons together and not a specialty wooden instrument is even more impressive cause that’s way harder, but he’s also not using any advanced techniques at all. So he’s using the hardest and most genuine form of the instrument, but all he’s doing is the most basic back and forth to a beat. If you look up Heritage Spoons on UA-cam or a few other channels, the stuff they do with their hands to get special notes and stuff is INSANE. But I’m also not sure how well you could do any of those advanced maneuvers with two metal spoons that aren’t secured together except by grip, so I can’t comment on whether or not he’s actually capable of those more advanced maneuvers. Generally I’d say he’s got an AMAZING grasp of the basics, and I wouldn’t put it past him to have way more he’s not showing you, being a trickster god and all 😉
Anyone here have any insight on how long it’ll take me to learn how to do that? I wanna learn but I don’t have a very long attention span and I’ll honestly probably forget i even thought about this when I wake up tmr
This is all I need to live
