You inspire me to get propogating. Our property in the Orara Valley would benefit hugely if I learn and apply your skills. So glad I found your channel. ❤
Oh wonderful Annie, thank you and it makes me so happy to read your comment. The Orara valley is beautiful. Wishing you much joy with the propagating and please keep me updated on the progress! Best wishes, Alex 💚🌿
Thank you so much Martina! ❤️ If you have any video requests or questions please let me know and I’ll do my best to answer them for you. Happy growing! 🌿😊
@@dreamsofgreen oh, thank you. I "just" like to follow inspiring people around the world and in totally different climat zones (I'm forest gardening in Germany, climat zone 7a (or b) on a 840m² plot in a small village). That strawberry guava would most certainly not survive the winter, here. But the principles apply, right? I try to propagate edible plants for some guerilla planting (Don't tell anybody 😉🙃😆) Maybe I'll try the cutting method for the mullberry. But I just planted that , so I'll let it establish a bit more, before that 😊
@@MartinaSchoppe Oh beautiful! Love the guerrilla planting haha! I also plant stone fruit seeds as an experiment (only low chill varieties work here), figs from cuttings, loquat from seed and I’ve grown persimmons from seed too. Sometimes when I cut open an apple the seeds are already sprouting and I’ve planted out lots of those too in a frosty part of our property to see if they will work. The seedlings so far are growing really well! Whether we get fruit or not is another question.. but it’s always fun to experiment. 😄🍏🍒
@@dreamsofgreen Awesome. I don't understand why not everybody is food foresting! It is so much fun. And when it acually starts to fruit, you just walk throug and forage. No more sprayed fruits that got carted around half the world or worse! I need to learn grafting, though. Some of the varieties I planted are not so tasty or don't really bear much to begin with, but the trees are there, so much faster to re-graft them, instead of ripping them out and plant new trees.
@@MartinaSchoppe yesss!! I agree. Such a joy!! Yes grafting will be my next step too, as for sure there will be seeds I’ve planted that won’t bear tasty fruit. 🌱🪴
Hi Alex, loving your videos! I love how all the plants you work with are tough and hardy. My list of plants I want to grow is, well, growing 😊 Just one question, do you wash your plastic pots between uses?
@@dreamsofgreen Not yet! But I've propagated mulberry from cutting with decent success. Will report back if I ever do strawberry guava! Love your channel btw. Just discovered it today. I'm down in Sydney. Slightly different climate but close enough for your vids to be applicable. Cheers.
Oh wonderful! Mine are just over 2 years old and haven’t fruited yet but are growing well! I think they take 4-5 years from seed. The one I have that is fruiting was one that I bought from a nursery a few years back. Good luck! Alex 💚🌿
Mine have just started flowering now.. 3 years from seed. I definitely think it depends on season and growing conditions. And as far as I know all the nurseries propagate them from seed, they’re not grafted and should taste the same 💚
My yellow cherry is getting smashed by murtle rust atm. It’s by far my favourite. Don’t know if you have murtle rust yet. probably grow ok anyway. If mine doesn’t recover soon might give it a copper spray. The shoots from the base are getting eaten by wallabies which isn’t helping.
Yes mine too! But my red is okay!? Does copper spray work? Yes I love the yellow ones. Luckily my yellow one is inside the home paddock with a secure fence so the wallabies can’t get to it 😄
@@dreamsofgreen there’s a bit of literature that says copper sprays aren’t very effective for myrtle rust. Seems to work for me on my lemon scented ironbark though. Might be effective if I get good airflow and sunshine to help it, and I’m spraying copper on my young expensive grafted mangos anyway. I don’t have the red, maybe resistant, prefer the flavour of the yellow though.
In my experience guavas will only drop their leaves when stressed. Seasol seaweed solution works very well to help your plants recover. It may need more protection from the cold over winter or may need more winter sun. I hope it bounces back in Spring and resprouts for you once it warms up 💚🌿
Not as much with my strawberry guava but my regular tropical guavas it can happen. I find it happens if you get a really hot day or several hot days and the plants get stressed or are suffering from a lack of water. I prepared a watering can of seaweed solution and wet the leaves and soaked the roots. My guavas soon recovered with new growth. Just make sure they don’t dry out again and they should hopefully be fine 🌱
I went to record a walk through tour of Yard Farm, and discovered that my cell phone does not record video. LOL Can you believe that? What a dinosaur I must be! I plan to get an upgrade, which is good, since the screen has been cracked/shattered for quite a while. No worries, I never use it anyway. Anyone who needs to contact me should feel free to stop by in person. LOL Like in the old days, eh?
Haha! Maybe time for an upgrade so you can share your beautiful work?! I must say it’s nice too going for a walk in the garden without the phone, I appreciate these times very much 😊🌿🦋
@@dreamsofgreen I am probably getting a new phone tomorrow. I have not had an upgrade in so long that my current phone no longer has any T-Mobile support! LOL Oh, and I never carry my phone through my garden. In fact, I never carry it at all, In fact, I never answer it.

Great video. Have you ever propagated the strawberry guava from cuttings?
Thanks Mike! And I haven’t tried strawberry guava from cuttings (yet!). Have you tried and if so did you get good results? Alex 🌿

That’s awesome and yes please! Thanks Mike. And yes, I noticed when I was down your way just how many trees that do well here also thrive in Sydney 😄
Where'd you buy the tube pots?
I already have two of these babies growing, really excited to try them in a few years. How long was it until yours fruited?
