Fire and wind come from the sky, from the gods of the sky. But Crom is your god, Crom and he lives in the earth. Once, giants lived in the Earth, Conan. And in the darkness of chaos, they fooled Crom, and they took from him the enigma of steel. Crom was angered. And the Earth shook. Fire and wind struck down these giants, and they threw their bodies into the waters, but in their rage, the gods forgot the secret of steel and left it on the battlefield. We who found it are just men. Not gods. Not giants. Just men. The secret of steel has always carried with it a mystery. You must learn its riddle, Conan. You must learn its discipline. For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men, not women, not beasts. This you can trust. Conan 💪😎
Throwing your father's bear skin cloak over your shoulders, strap on your mother's sword, saddle and mount your war horse and shout "If this is our last day, we will make it live in legend forever!" Perfection may be impossible, but this score comes damn close.

Crazy as this may be, the spiritual successor film to Conan the Barbarian is The Northman. The director listed the first movie as a huge inspiration in crafting the new film.
I saw that a few weeks ago. Different in style in many ways, but yes, I see that spiritual connection is true. The Northman is an excellent, powerful film, if anything it's the understated version of such a story.
After so many seasons of Vikings being 10/10 and so many episodes being as good as full length films, my wife and I were so disappointed with ‘Northman’…. So bad in every way, they made the ‘Northmen’ just look like regular barbarians with no distinction from cave men basically. Really bad film 1/10 could not sit thru it all.
I was nine years old when it came from MTV3 in 1997 and I was notified about it because I read all the Finnish TV guide of the week, because my brothers had already recorded many movies including Rambo and Total Recall few years back and It was the time when there was no TV censorship like in the year 2022. And oh boy, all the good movies came from TV one after another. Conan was the best and I was instantly enthralled when the opening sequence started and progressed so forth. The misfortune happened two years after, when I , in act of foolishness re-recorded the cassette and woe was me and bitterness. It took years before it came from TV again, but I stumbled across the in DVD in 2006 and the memories instantly surfaced. I had to purchase it and relive the memories I had. Arnold was my childhood hero(we had Commando and Terminators) until he started to make stupid comedies, not to mention, to bear a child in Junior, but as a child I only saw Kindergarten Cop, which was in my opinion mediocre. But Conan was his best movie and it was accompanied by the immortal soundtrack by late master Poledouris. I really awaited the last sequel King Conan, a farewell to his character to no avail. It was Conan The Barbarian which gave me much positive moments when I lived in backwood village in those dark cold evenings of the fall. This movie has a special place in my heart and will always have. Milius was far more skilled than the Nispel, but his better movies caused him to lose opportunities in the Cursed Hollywood. If one is going to make an epic movie, one must be true to oneselfs vision and not to bow to fools who want something softer. Milius was true to his vision and he did succeed also in box office. I believe it was more successful in the VHS market and has proved to stand the test of time. I am sure that Milius laughed at Nispels entry, I was so disappointed that I left the Kinopalatsi after one hour and noted that I completely misspent the 14 euros.

I was 11 when it premiered in my country , also for me I can say this is the most influential movie that inspired me to chose the path I chose which is sports ( body building , boxing , sprinting)
was he right? Thulsa told Conan that steel isn't strong. He asked what is a sword compared to the hand that wields it. And to further put a point on it he has a girl jump to her death on his request. Then we Conan heals from the tree of woe, we see him pause and look at his hand. This could be regaining trust in his body after a near death experience, but I see it as Conan considering what Thulsa said. And then in the battle of the mounds Conan shatters his fathers sword. This shows that the riddle of steel Conan followed in his inadequate. He must find a new path Of course, he also kills Thulsa after breaking his voice of command spell. So Thusla was also inadequate Maybe I read too much into the film.
This movie wasn't exactly Robert E. Howard's Conan, but it stands on its own as magnificent, even if it's John Milius and Oliver Stone's idea of how Friedrich Nietzsche would write a Conan story. In itself, that was an amazing idea to put on film. Conan the Destroyer sucked in every way possible. The Jason Momoa Conan wasn't great, was not an achievement like this in any way, but I thought it was pretty good and much more like a Howard story. Now if only someone could do King Kull of Valusia justice instead of the embarrassing film he got.
