Kirk thinking he is in NewYork is funny because in movies they often use Toronto as double for NewYork because it is way cheaper and easier to get the liscenses to film there. It's for sure an inside joke by the writing team.
Also is William Shanter not Canadian?? That could be part of the joke.
@@jackgibsxxx0750naw bill's Canadian. he was born in Montreal
@@1heKing O_o Bill Wolkoff the writer? So you're saying as a Canadian he would naturally get the joke? Why "naw" then?
Instead of being born in Iowa he was born on the USS Iowa. Clever!
Born on the USS Iowa... I see what they did there
Yeah that was a nice Easter egg!
So, what do the two S stand for if it's not a Starfleet?
Yes, but they should have said he was born on the USS Kelvin!
Spacefleet, probably.
@@rickjohnston2667I thought he was delivered after leaving Kelvin.
I want to see Kirk do a Jim Carey impression.
Considering it's Jim Carey playing him, that should be fun.
@@oldRighty1 Kirk's actor in SNW is Paul Wesley.
@@hinoron6528 it was tongue in cheek. I know that's not actually Jim Carey.
@@oldRighty1 Plain text carries no tone of voice to let people know you're not serious.
That's why there's tongue-in-cheek emotes for when you're speaking tongue-in-cheek. 😜
@@hinoron6528 but I was fairly close, considering that they are actually brothers, which explains the similar mannerisms and looks.
This is a very common Stark Trek cliche. Something unusual happens and no one cares to believe the protagonist, (Non Sequitur Star Trek: Voyager Season two episode 5 is just such a story) But what's ridiculous about this cliche is how many times these time travel, parallel universe, alien influence, anomalies happened to Kirk, Picard, Janeway and Sisko. There should come a point at which, you would think that when someone says "Hey something strange is happening here." Everyone in Star Fleet would take their account seriously because they would know that these things have happened frequently. But no, everyone acts like the person is crazy.
In DS9, they do get used to it like whenever some crap happens with the mirror universe.
Starfleet is surprisingly behind on documentation.
Remember, this is supposed to be around the early 2260's in an alternate timeline. Kirk's original 5 year mission, Picard, Sisko and Janeway's missions haven't happened yet, and not in this timeline at all.
Aside from @rickjohnston2667's point, notice also that they are a tiny fraction of all of Star Fleet. There are hundreds of ships in Star Fleet, and weirdness seems to mostly happen to a few of them. (There's a non-canon novel Q-Squared where this is lampshaded by a scientist and then later partially explained in part by Trelane continuing to mess with the various Enterprises years after he encountered Kirk.)
Even in a universe where these things do happen, people go crazy a LOT. So the crazy person theory is still the more likely until you have evidence to the contrary.
An interesting little thing here: Kirk was born on the USS Iowa in his timeline - which was the name that the writers were going to give the USS Kelvin in the 2009 film.
Even more interesting: Captain Kirk in the original timeline was born IN Iowa, the state.
@@kettch777 Maybe some of the original timeline is wrong. I mean, what do we really know about him? He won't be born for another 209 years yet. Gene Roddenberry must have got some of his facts wrong when he bumped into that 'story-teller' from the future who told him of such things as Star Treks and Tek Wars.
@@kettch777 He only works in outer space.
Esta claro que no han visto el episodio, no saben de lo que hablan. 😂
Toronto represents 🙌😂
I like that they used Toronto to represent itself instead of passing it off as New York, like most shows.
This is pretty funny to me. I have stood in that spot in Dundas Square in Toronto many times. I worked across the street opposite of what the camera is shooting. I have been in the Eaton's Centre there many times.
What I found funny was that a bridge to Rochester NY ran into cost overruns and delays. Nothing could be more 'Toronto' than City Council and Queen's Park facing delays and cost overruns on a mega project.
(Eglinton Crosstown anyone ?) Art was definitely imitating life in this case.
@@PeBoVision When Kirk is born the Eglinton line will be five years away from completion.
@@seanwebb605 just like fusion power the estimated time for completion never gets shorter... I wonder what we'll have first?
I hated the NEW Kirk, until this episode.
Now I adore him!
I think this is the best Kirk since Shatner…
I love episode 3 of season 2 . The time travel was really good in this episode . This season keeps getting better and better and I love it 🖖🖖🖖.
Best trek since the original.
I come from the future! Whoohoohooo! I have come back to let you know that Season 2 will be the best season of Star Trek across all franchises!
This Captain watched a bit to much Jim Carrey growing up.
3:29 piss alley right beside where the Hard Rock downtown Toronto used to be.
Iceflkn. Maybe that explains why I could not find the Federation shipyard in Riverside, Iowa. I live in Sioux City. Did you ever notice that the roof of the University of Iowa College of Law building looks like the top half of the saucer section of the Enterprise?
Imagine getting dumped somewhere on Earth and told "There is going to be an attack". Ok Sherlock, where do I start? The South of France is nice this year....
Some freaking directions would be nice! Earth isnt exactly small!!!!
he reminds me so much of jim carry rather then kirk lol funny thing was jimmy carry played kirk on in living color
Used to be called Canada
It's now the Canadian Empire. Klingons immigrated in large numbers and you should see the mess after partying.
All the TOS references in the Eaton Centre shot, Dr. Keeler anyone??
He should have Simply compelled her to give him the device. Maybe she's on vervain. Oh wait, this is star trek😶
"How will you be paying today?"
him: I'm from space. *walks out*
TORONTO!!!
For some reason YT is giving me a "Translate to English" link on this comment. Which... does nothing. 😆
Good job de-aging Jim Carrey.
3:18 that made me laugh
💖💖
This reminds of an episode of Red Dwarf where they accidentally change Earth’s history and the Russians take over Cuba and threaten America and they have to go back to set things right.
Spock wouldn't exist if there wasn't a human / Vulcan treaty
Im assuming he's just vulcan and somehow the mom doesn't matter. somehow.
No, spock might not exist as a human/vulcan hybrid. Who says that Spock couldn't be a pure blooded vulcan in this timeline?
@@BenjaminSchollnickor human
@@BenjaminSchollnick Because he wouldn't be Spock.
@@thefurrybastard1964 He wouldn't be the *Spock you expect*.
Remember Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations.
Time Travel can be a pain, especially trying to keep all the Timey Wimey parts together. I'm not sure that I'd be happy either, but if they handle this well... It could be an interesting view of an alternative "could have been" Spock.
I had Paramount+ and just watch the old Star Trek series!😊
If you have never watched this series.
Most of them are stand alone with limited references to previous episodes.
In my opinion which means nothing to you.
Know one thing before watching.
Captain Pike knows about the accident that puts him in the wheelchair in TOS.
It affects his decisions.
Watch episode 1 season 1.
Then jump to episode 2 sesson 2 the trial of Number 1 for being an Illyrian.
At least give it a chance.
3:34 made ZERO effort to hide which city they landed in. 🤣😂😆
It's a statement about Kirk not being situation aware, not at all. There's signs in plain sight telling him where he is. Instead he guessed.
I remember fans being upset hearing this in the trailer...and then it turned out to be an alternate timeline Kirk lol.
Jim Carrey is Kirk, and The Three Stooges are on the bridge
3:28 the dumpster has 2247 painted on it…
Star Trek writers are still with the 47.
That's supposed to be Kirk?!
This guy isn't right as Kirk. He doesn't have the weight or gravity , he might be a good actor in other roles.
I'm quite sure that Canada would still exist in some way in the future.
For all we know, it could be some unified country made up of Canada and the USA.
@@kutter_ttl6786 The Canadas were colonies of Britain at one Time. Upper Canada and Lower Canada. Later Canada East and Canada West. Even if Canada becomes part of a union or confederacy with the United States and/or Mexico etc. Canada can still exist in some way.
Yes, but it's probably part of some sort of North American Alliance, like NAFTA or the E.U.
@@rickjohnston2667Belgium still exists, despite the existence of the EU. Or a Kingdom of The Netherlands, for that matter.
@@kutter_ttl6786 that wouldn't happen.
My only problem with this episode was United Earth. United Earth was a creation of the Vulcans after 1st Contact. An Earth that gets dragged kicking and screaming into the galaxy by a Romulan invasion should have become some iteration of the Terran Empire. They wouldn't have even needed to change the story at all, this isn't the mirror universe so it didn't need to be evil.
You’ve put us in a fairly upscale spot, the piles of garbage notwithstanding, in the sewer that’s early 21st century Earth!
Just off of Dundas Square there is an alley that can get pretty messy. A theatre on Yonge Street about a block south of where they are has an entrance and walk way that goes over the alley and the auditorium is in the back. About three blocks west of there position Star Trek the Next Generation has shot at Nathan Phillips Square or Toronto City Hall.
How do they paid for the clothes?
Said "I'm from Space" and hied out the revolving door whilst the staff were laughing.
I have encountered a similar problem many times.
They did not do so.
HUGE points for use of "hie" a word I've not seen in decades! @@mkvv5687
The Ryerson thing didn’t age well.
@4:47 And Im BATMAN!!!
The biggest city in what was called Canada? Why biggest and why did Canada end up
@1:00 (and in answer to the far simplier explanation) The company that bought the rights Shat(nered) all over the franchise.
Is this an official production, it seems amateur. Also if its in the time of TOS why is the tech way advanced and similar to that of shows like Picard.
What of all the places in the world....they...go to....Toronto...?
Because that's where they are shooting Star Trek currently.
That's where Khan is.
You could see she was about to get pissed when he said she lost her mind.
What a joke even the og kirk wuld of at least herd her out
The real Kirk would not let a inferior officer walk all over him like that.
This is not our James T. Kirk. His whole life was different.
The dialogue is just horrendous
Those Starfleet badges are ridiculous....
United earth fleet! Does beg the question, if they are able to produce a ship identical to the Enterprise, what technologies and design advantages did being part of the federation with so many other worlds and cultures actually contribute. Or just bad writing without having another set available.
@@backupplan6058 We have to assume that the technology to build the Enterprise and other space ships existed before First Contact. The evolution of Earth space exploration that started in the 1950s and 60s had progressed over 200 years to reach the stage we see in STO (2266)
But in this scene, we are visiting a different timeline to the one we are familiar with, so the history is different. A small United Earth Fleet (UEF) would clearly benefit by making contact and forming an alliance with other worlds that had similar technologies. Its like the League Of Nations evolving into the United Nations and for strategic reasons created N.A.T.O. They can trade, share new technologies, even make friends with the Klingon's. An idea that would have been totally alien to the young JT Kirk.
From this clip, Kirk looks like an incompetent buffoon. Good thing there’s a smart, strong woman on hand.
Watch the whole episode…in many ways he’s as good as the original.
he is an alternative version from a different reality. So he also has other experiences that have changed his personality.
Isn't Prime Kirk a country boy?
Well, life on the farm is kinda laid back
Ain't much an old country boy like me can't hack
It's early to rise, early in the sack
Thank God, I'm a country boy
Nice song
First decent Star Trek show since TNG and great episode.
typical, lets make the guy look like a doofus.
Kind of weird to see a captain Kirk with no charisma.
You didn't watch the episode did you? That's the one thing Paul Wesley has nailed.
@@Azure_Fire I watched a few clips online of him in the role and I don't think that he did.
@@BikeStuffPDX See, that's the problem. You gotta watch the episode. Kirk is still very much the woman-charmer he was in TOS.
The people who like this show mostly were split on Paul Wesley in the season 1 finale, but this episode won many of the detractors over.
.
Hate time line changes.
Huh. I didn't realize it was a sitcom.
Bumbling male: check.
Insightful female: check.
Comedy gold for decades. I may have to check it out.
Welcome to Star Trek. Sometimes it gets silly, going back at least to "The Trouble With Tribbles."
This Kirk is the same in TOS….even in TOS…Kirk had trouble driving a stick shift..😂
Dumb dumb not Starfleet but he has the Starfleet logo on his uniform.
I’ll do you a kindness and not point out that the insignia on his uniform is *not* a Starfleet emblem.

He grabbed the control from her and they both activated the device in the struggle.
This Jack Kirk, because he's no James, has all the charisma and magnetism of armed forces meatloaf.
This clip shows how a simp Captain Kirk would act😂 Hope Bill Shafter does not see this!😮 It is terrible!😞
Cern Nd spCe is fake
This Kirk is pretty weak tea.
This is rubbish. Why the need to destroy Trek and Kirk? Can't think of new space based shows and characters a la the frelling good "Farscape?"
Jim Carrey is terrible as Kirk
SNW is the rightful heir to TOS….even TNG was more woke than this…which had guys wearing skirts..😂
Excuse me...stop using "woke" in every conversation that isn't true!! As one who experienced this on a daily basis, it's an insult when used incorrectly!! The Scott's might rip out your vocals if you disrespect their decorum because you have been miseducationed on the proper use of the word "woke". I'm speaking from someone who's citizens has to deal with this mentality for centuries.
@@edwardjackson9639 In this case it fits…
As a Trek fan it’s obvious…..being multi racial…
dealing with diverse opinions is as old as Mankind.
@@easyalpha1 Very good point!!
Paul Wesley is way better than Chris Pine!
Shut up Wesley!
The writing is such trash. I don’t know who this character is, but he isn’t James T. Kirk.
This show is 10 times better than most anything after TOS….
This guy? Worst Captain Kirk EVER. Woke types are going to Woke, and in the process destroy Star Trek. Strange New Worlds could have been great, but…
Found the fascist.
@@talkingthetalk3640 If that's the level of your "ANALysis" best of luck.
Star Trek is the uber-woke franchise! Literally the origin point of woke.
First Black space officer, first interracial kiss on TV, Kirk tells the cop with black on one side and white on the other that there is no difference between him and the guy with the opposite-side pigment. The actress playing Uhura stayed on the show because MLK asked her to--she was a role model. Star Trek is the woke before the woke. You're the guy who thinks the fascist mirror universe was the real Trek!
@evelk5233 You “Think” it is, but should you watch the ORIGINAL episodes, it’s Star Trek is ANYTHING BUT “Woke.”
Shatner is Kirk. Chris Pine, well okay for a facsimile. This guy--it's not totally his fault, because this writing is so bad--no way he's Kirk in any timeline.
I see some Starfleet captain, but definitely not James Kirk.
Also this is supposed to be younger version of Kirk also from
another timeline. lol.
But it is now 58 years since the original series began. The majority of the cast from that time have either passed on or are of an advanced age. No timeline can help them.
If you consider the characters of the original series, they were one-dimensional. We knew so little about them. It is only in the years since that a bit of a back-story has been added to their character. Maybe people should stop comparing the original actors with these newer pretenders. At the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is the STORY.
I think this idea is fun. They have resurrected an old show format and breathed new life into it. I have never watched any of the SNW series but they look worth checking out. Even STNG seems wooden as compared to this.
@@quernaltThere is no Starfleet in this timeline so how do you even make a comparison?
@@Ryan_Christopher I was basing it on season 1.
This scene is the reason why this show is not so great. That chick would be in the brig right now being interrogated and NOT holding an unknown device.
Kirk was a terrible actor. I like the stilted new one
Shatner played Kirk as well as this actor….who got the spirit of Kirk but taller .
I like SNW. As an original Trek fan first and foremost, I like SNW. Sorry, Paul Wesley. Bad choice for the role.
This is so damn woke. No wonder Star Trek is crap.
Actually it’s not woke….it actually is better than TNG by far.
If you don't like it, don't watch it.
what is so woke about it? you people are actually pathetic
People claiming star trek is 'too woke' for them never stops being funny. Brother you would have hated TOS. It's still sometimes progressive for modern standards, and in the 60s it was light years ahead.
All the sets are now CGI, there is no depth in perception. It looks all fake and the acting qualities show it. No enthusiasm in the manufacturing of the production!
Toronto isn’t cgi 😂
