  • Saber is not the first to describe graffiti as an addiction. It’s way beyond a simple act of rebellion or self-expression. It's thrill of getting away with it, the positive reinforcement from friends and peers, and of course, the fumes that get so many youngsters hooked after their first hit.
In our interview - co-hosted by Eddie Donaldson from Guerilla One - Saber explains how his comrades in the Seventh Letter both fell prey to the addiction and leveraged it to become one of the most powerful graffiti crews in one of America’s largest cities.
He also explains how he’s been able to use art as a vehicle for social change, challenging laws that are at times draconian and contradictory, and gives us insight into the challenge of pivoting from the streets to the galleries.
All this, and lots of great stories from the heart of the LA graffiti scene. Listen now.

Greatest LA writer of all time. The sacrifice this man made for his art and the culture. Holy fuck.
Dude was my hero growing up. Fuck Superman, fuck SpiderMan, I looked up to Saber like he WAS a super hero. And I’ve been painting ever sense.

This was a great interview thank you. My homie bought me a signed SABER Riverbed print for my birthday when they came out and it’s been prominently displayed since. We painted a lot of freights in the mid 90’s through early 2000’s and would check Tower Records a couple times a week for the new Can Control, Iron Burners, 12oz Prophet etc. and had all the old VideoGraff videos on vhs. Weird being an old writer and watching as you guys started showing your faces for the first time.
Too many toys not enough recess.

I grew up with MSK, AWR. They have all the necessities you need to be a rocking crew! They have pulled it off for multiple decades! That’s VERY IMPRESSIVE AND IMPORTANT TO THE GRAFFITI MOVEMENT!
THOSE TWO CREWS ARE SOLID TO THIS DAY AND ALL DAY!!!

Damn I just watched a recent interview with 2tone and saber, 2 years made a huge difference on saber, he lost a lot of weight for one his voice is all fucked up, (but he likes it) and idk it just seemed like he was completely wasted in the most recent interview I watched but in this interview this is the saber I know if y’all go watch the interview with him an 2tone you will notice a huge difference in the way he talks, his laugh, his voice which has to do with health complications. Either way saber is still my favorite artist of all time just was worried about him in the most recent interview I watched

The man the myth the legend Saber is still a king in the graff realm. I racked the magazine that featured his La river piece back in the 90s when i was a teenager, looked up to him ever since back then. My life has been the same shady story of every Real writer. Still up all over and i grew up in San Diego so i got a Harley an am close too Dago chapter one thing I got too correct yall on is the media propaganda point: Motorcycle Clubs are NOT street gangs, its the same as calling a graff writer a tagger in a negative tone
