It was confusing, but I think tipping the tractor that direction was making that switch short out. Probably the spring that pushes the ball back out was weak

      Quite possible.
The only other explanation I can think of is that there has to be a little spring that pushes that ball out and then a lever pushes the ball in.
If that spring was weak then tilting the tractor could make it make contact on the switch

Ran over a stick with the front tire and it speared right into the NSS breaking it off at the block and rubbed wires bare that were in the vicinity. The seat safety switch is for old operator and in case they fell off due to stroke or heat stroke etc. etc. the machine will shut off automatic for the safety of everyone.
you can add a bypass switch to keep the engine running while you get off the machine which is again pointless because it only takes 1 to 3 seconds to start the engine back up..

How did farmers ever grow anything with out safety switches on their equipment? I say that we are dumbing down as a people always blaming someone else for a problem instead of thinking for ourselves! Lawyers and the blame game are TOTALLY the cause for all the unnecessary safety crap that doesn’t help a lick!! If you don’t have enough sense NOT to reach in around an operating PTO shaft……YOU DO NOT NEED TO OPERATE EQUIPMENT PERIOD!! Common sense is the endangered species in the world that we live in today!! I see a lot of truth in what you are saying. Part of it comes down to the legal system awarding judgments on lawsuits. If someone does something stupid and can sue for millions of dollars when it was their own fault, then the manufacturer starts to put more and more things like this on the machine
My wife and daughters went on a girls weekend so I’m stuck in the house with a whole bunch of grandkids.
I’ve been watching these guys build log cabins on UA-cam all by hand and thinking about how people used to do things

Good for bush hog. They are an older brand that might have some common sense.
I got a bunch of negative comments about mine, so I’ve had this discussion several times about the purpose of those chains and how they could hypothetically let you know if the bearing in the plastic shield is bad.
For me it’s just one more thing to mess with and the chains always seem to break because they’re so thin.

All that safety stuff is BS and just causes problems. I can see the seat one. But the one to go into reverse with the deck on, shift to neutral, etc is all BS. If you need those safeties in place, you probably shouldn't be running a tractor! But these days, everyone wants to sue even though it's their fault. After my parents got a zero turn I went up and took the old tractor they had and I used all my childhood that was a White GT-1855 and all of the safety switches were bad. I pulled all of the yellow wire that connected all of the safety switches and jumped the wire for the whole system and never had an electrical issue again.
