The best hiking trail in Colombia, The lost city trek was one of the most incredible long distance hiking trails I have completed so far!
After reading a number of Lost City Trek reviews, we decided to book with Teyuna Tours

The Ciudad Perdida hike starts in the village of El Mamey, we were picked up from our hostel in Santa Marta and driven there by mini van where we met for lunch and joined our group and lost city trek guide.
We chose to do the 5 days option as it was the same price and would give us a little extra time on day 4 to film and enjoy the stunning natural pools and beauty of the trail.
Lost city trek Santa Marta is a 29 mile there and back long distance hiking trail through the mountainous jungle region of the Sierra Nevada. It passes through two indigenous villages belonging to the WIWA and Kogi tribes. The lost city itself is an absolute wonder! Built in 800AD by the Tairona civilisation and only discovered by looters in the 1970’s, it is 600 years older than Macchu Pichu!
Lost city trek difficulty
Although the trail isn’t very long, the humidity and terrain make this a difficult hike, suitable for anyone with a good level of fitness. There are steep ascents and descents. Ciudad Perdida Colombia sits at 1200m above seal level and the trail has in total 2649m of elevation.
There are points on the trail where you can hire a mule to ride if you were struggling, but we preferred to stick to hiking.
Accommodation in the camps along the trail are a combination of bunk beds, hammock camping and tents. The camps all have washing facilities and your 3 meals a days are provided by the tour company and are very filling.
I highly recommend doing the Lost City Trek tour, it was an amazing experience! Remember to take plenty of bug spray, a waterproof jacket and decent hiking boots. You can hire a rucksack and trekking poles from the tour company if you haven’t brought your own.
The highlight of the trip for us, aside from the incredible views, was meeting the Shaman of the Kogi tribe and a member of the WIWA tribe who taught us about their customs and traditions.

Fantastic to see you both again , you ladies have some stamina and I have to admire your strength and fortitude in the steamy jungles and mountains. These videos are TV quality. always look forward to seeing them .The snake in the water is probably some kind of boa they are the most common non poisonous snake in Columbia with lots of different species. As for the one that slid under the undergrowth it looks the same as the one that lives at the bottom of my door It's called a draught excluder.🌞☺️

Sounds a very well organised tour and what a great way to do the Lost City Trek. That steep ascent looked brutal in the heat but the views from the top were jaw dropping - I want to go! I bet it was bliss to get to camp and I would have been straight in the cooling pool but not that keen on the poisonous spider, snakes and scorpions mind. "I need a Starbucks"....LOL, to be fair, if you were shattered it must have been tough going and I think the rain would have been a welcome relief from the heat for me, as anything over 22C drains me. The steps of Doom were worth the near death experience for the footage you got, so pleased you took your drone, that was amazing to see. What a memory you have created, well jel, but real proud of you both, great achievement and an amazing trip! Take care, cheers Alan

Ace adventure and video kerry as always our kid...I did metion salt tablets in your packing video as any ideas for anything else to take they're ideal for those kind of activities in those environments the g.i.'s in Vietnam use to take them all the time on patrol to stop the shakes they sell them on amazon cracking video that mate I felt like I was there and on this cold spring night it warmed me cockles no end atb my dear 👍😀

Well done ladies, a trip you'll never forget - Ooh a banana! was your drone water proof?! Millipede on the path? The snake looked like a Rainbow Boa or a fer de lance - but they're venomous and a tad dangerous. Great place - fancy a trip there myself.
No not a millipede it had no legs 🤔 more like some kind of giant worm? 🤣 drone didn’t get wet which was fab! Loved seeing the snake it was cool, how’s the weather back home?

First off you were right to take the drone! You were in much more open jungle than my own jungle experience in SE Asia…
And no you didn’t look like you’d been dug up!
People didn’t seem to be carrying very much. Was stuff being transported for you?
Lastly, I notice that Danni was only using one pole. I haven’t used poles yet so have no experience, but Danni looked quite unbalanced…Danni would you consider using two in future? Or was it ok with one?
Hey there Bob 😁 yes the terrain was varied… some of it I would have had no chance getting it up as it was too dense but in other parts there was the space to do it 😝
We both had one pole each as find it easier than two …. Plus I need my other hand for filming / smoking / stroking the pigs etc ha ha
No everyone travelled light and nothing was carried for us …. On the Wednesday people could leave things at camp 3 whilst they visited the city as we would return there after for lunch
But as I had my drone etc o just took my stuff up the steps 🙈🤣

Sorry you don’t like it, I’m sure there are plenty of videos without the background music on this subject you can watch on UA-cam. I mainly make these videos for me and my partner as a reminder of our trips together. We like the music, so that’s why we put it on 🤗
