Shane, please add Strategy, International Management and Organizational Behavior to the list. These are subsidiaries of Management majors and geared towards jobs in consulting. Like Finance, these majors pair only well with top schools, or, more precisely, at least schools under the recrutiment radars of top consulting firms, such as McKinsey, Bain and Boston Consulting Group. These majors train people to work in consulting and high finance jobs, such as investment and acquisitions. Do not mix up with the general majors.

I have my degree in Business Management and I feel like it’s underrated! I had no issues finding good jobs. My first job out of college I will be in a leadership role at a big company with $65k starting salary and guaranteed advancement after 2 years :)
tell me more. I want to do business managment after my contract with the miltary is finally over. But recently ive been having second thoughts because its just such a broad term "business managment".
Im graduating with a Business Management Degree in the spring. Any tips on how you landed the job?
@@elvirbelardi would you say the business management is a harder bachelors degree? I’m starting college soon and I don’t know what to major in
My friend got a similar offer. 70k starting, he’s working for Dell in Austin Tx and he’s also guaranteed advancement after 2 years
was business management degree hard ??
could you do an updated, in depth MIS review video? loved the last one!
Management information systems being at the top of your list is my motivation to suck it up and try to ace it 😂
@@aileenj nope, it's quite fine. I'm more of a business guy, so the tech side is not so much fun for me
@@aileenj the only hard part is the technical things like Database management (SQL), business analytics using excel (a lot of forecasting equations using data), object oriented programming (we used C#), and network building (TCP/IP, LAN design, and network security). The easier part is the project management side ( you learn the software development life cycle) and system analysis
My degree is BIS but it has a module called Information Systems Management.
I guess BIS contains MIS so seeing MIS as the top definitely motivated me to pass this Information Systems Management exam that I had to do like 2 hours after watching this video.
If I failed this exam I wouldn't get the degree.
Now we see if I failed it...
@ydeartishpumpkin well how'd you do man ?? 😬

Got an Information Systems Management degree from San Diego State University in 1975. 26 year career as a programmer, programmer/analyst, senior programmer analyst and account manager. Well worth the effort. Only thing is.this career field is constantly changing so you have to be learning new technology all the time to stay current. For instance I started in a mainframe environment and later in my career had to orient myself to client/server environment. Not easy!
Where does business management stand?
whats the best degree for working from home and not interacting with a ton of people
MARKETING ITS THE BEST ✔️ i will tell you why the big reason is a Demand for this major absolutely marketing number #1 at least
Why uu say that
I feel like marketing is a saturated field. My best friend graduated with a marketing degree in 2020 and is struggling to find any job. A lot of false hope here in America at the moment.

otherwise, there is a good chance to learn the other majors online.

@@YU-bh9wy I mean business admin.
Dude I'm really interested in International Business. I would like to do Real Estate everywhere. Is this a good direction
From an International Commerce POV, so take it with a grain of salt, you will be focusing on negotiations, laws that applies to products and services for and from customs, culture, geography, supply chain, finance, accounting and languages. If you want to go for Real Estate then go for something that focuses on Microeconomics, Analysis, Market values or other similar things, depending on how you plan to focus on it. However, I only know that much on that side of Economy.
What's the difference between business analytics and management information systems?
Good question
Business analytics don’t need to learn very hard technical skills like coding or understanding where data comes from just stating what the data means. MIS would help or create a database where the data comes from. This is what I understand.
@@SquidSquidy_ so is mis more valuable than business analytics?
@@thatballerkobe5595 Like anything it depends on you and how much effort you decide to put in. But on average MIS makes more. But a really good BA will make more than any MIS major.
However, you would eventually need to learn more skills outside of your degree in BA such as: SQL, R / Python Programming, and maybe even stuff relating to the cloud.
Don't be discouraged about the programming, you just would need the bare minimum.
@@SquidSquidy_ I'm getting my bachelors degree in marketing and also minoring in business analytics. With the business analytics classes we have worked with softwares like Tableau, Power BI, R and Python. Hey, what do you think about business analytics? 🤔
How good would a business analytics major be??
It’s good it’s probably just behind MIS since in mis you learn business analytics + more subjects

I'm glad I switched from HR to Marketing as my focus. It felt good to find something that I might actually enjoy, since that's what I value more than the paycheck at the end of the day. But I have to agree with how colleges struggle to stay up-to-date with digital marketing due to its rapid changes. So, I've started browsing for extra classes online that can help me in that field while I earn my degree, that way I get the best of both worlds! Thank you for your informative videos, they've certainly helped myself and many others narrow down what they want out of their education and future career fields!
Yes! I agree this is what I’m thinking of majoring in as well. Everything marketing changes so rapidly that no set long standing curriculum could truly capture it. I had the same idea as you to really get into the new things being implemented within business marketing.
does hr pay better or digital marketing?
I’m scared AI will automate these careers. And I’m about to apply. Advice?
Thats why I was thinking but I am planning to get a finance degree because of the people you have the potential to meet and you can always take computer courses to join fintech later

Finance is spectacular. I'm in accounting because I don't have finance options.
Is there a difference between Management information systems and Computer Information Systems
similar, but slightly different. Computer information systems is more focused on computers, where is MIS is more so on business and the management side.
They are used interchangeably, but some schools have separate degrees of MIS and CIS. Chico state in California has 2 information systems degree, so just look thru ur uni, and the course list. The course list is more important than the title.
@@takethepillingodwetrust1510 exactly...I totally agree with you. I think it is the same thing. I took both Management and Computer classes when i was a CIS major...which i reckon would be the same thing for MIS

Is supply chain management/procurement worth it when going to post secondary??
Please help me out...
I am studying History for bachelor's I was wondering will I be able to make a career in Supply Chain management or something related to business by doing a MBA on it
What about Project Management
Surprised that Accounting was listed as #2 than finance; thought would be the other way around. I was debating between those 2 degrees and was told that finance was better than accounting.
I thought that was interesting as well. Especially because all of the numbers he provided seemed higher for finance. From research I've done, if you are stuck between the two, just think about the type of work you like to do more. Accounting will focus on analyzing numbers from transactions that have already occurred. Finance jobs will be more so about analyzing general business trends and attempting to predict the numbers in the future.

So question. I am majoring in business administration with a concentration in finance. Would it matter as much vs majoring in finance only? My school offers them as 2 separate degrees
I want to do the say.. do you have to be good at math for finance
But I think finance major sound better then ba
If they are two separate degrees at ur school, it would matter a little probably. If you are sure you want to do finance at this time, then I would try to transfer
The only difference is that BBA focused more on the managerial side of things, where as pure finance focuses on just finance. It really depends on if you would be interested in a managerial role, but once you get your CFA, they’re pretty similar

definitely the double major if possible
@@oliviacalton8477 Thank you for your reply, much appreciated 🙏
@@zuzuel4974 With the looks of two options, it seems like you're interested in a Biz-Tech hybrid career direction for the future. Based on this, with a Business Admin and Data Science double major, you will not only learn MIS, but also Ops, Finance/Accounting, Math, Stats, HR, so you will have a much broader spectrum of knowledge which is perfect for roles like becoming a Product Manager, and it will give you the opportunities to pivot and change careers as needed, if you wish to change your mind more in either direction, more Business or more Data Science. MIS is great too, but you only learn about Information Systems so its not quite as broad, but still a respectable, and good option if you're interested in roles like Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, Data Analyst or Cyber Security, etc or for becoming a management consultant (which you can do with either option). Additionally, have two majors always just looks better than one, if you can pull it off. It'll definitely be more challenging though, so its good to consider if you're dedicated/focused enough to succeed in it. And a technical science degree (data sci or engineer) seems to get you a higher salary than a business degree, but a business degree is more flexible in terms of the number of jobs you can get into with it. My college offers a BBA with an MIS concentration, so it might be a good option to see if you can do a dual-major/dual-degree, while also be able to concentrate in MIS, or you can always do an MIS certificate on top or something, but yeah. Another thing to consider might be the length of your degree and what's worth it to you, I know some people who graduated their undergrad in like 7-8 years, so yeah. Let me know if you have any follow up questions xD Good luck!
@@oliviacalton8477 first of all, you have my biggest gratitude. I really appreciate your message.
My business faculty at university (which doesn't allow us to double major or get two minors) offers either a BBA major with a concentrated minor (currently in my 1st year) or MIS major with a BBA minor. That said if I'd like to also study DS, it will take 4-5 years of undergrad to graduate with both (2.5 for business and 3 for DS) which despite not feeling great as finishing undergrad in 3 years is not much a problem for me. However the issue is the fact that I'll be studying them in different universities which is, unfortunately my only option (DD one with a fixed schedule + non mandatory presence + all the issues of the university itself (quality of education is one of the best in my country but the surrounding environment sucks really hard) & BBA in an American system + mandatory presence) which along with my other engagements in my life make me undecided whether I start my DS degree next year or the year after.
@@oliviacalton8477 hey, not to oppose you or anything just a quick heads up. At my university, in the MIS major, we learn about information systems, as well as multiple coding classes, three maths classes (though not high level, or as high as engineering math classes or pure STEM ones), HR, PR, and all core business classes (including accounting and auditing, finance, marketing, management). On top of coding classes, we also take OS, database, networking, mobile platform courses, alongside other CS courses that would make the list a little too long.
I am going to the public university of my country, although it does rank high in the region, and top of the country, it doesn't rank that high in the global ranking of universities in the world.
To sum it up, MIS students definitely do not take only information systems courses, yet I agree with the OP double majoring for his interest. Sorry for the long reply, best regards !!!

STEM majors are very sought-after in business-especially in finance, consulting, and operations. That’s because of a few main reasons:
1. These business functions require people who can understand complex systems and make recommendations. If you can understand chemical equations, coding a website, or how to build a bridge, you will almost always have the mental aptitude to understand systems within business. Many of the world’s top CEOs and leaders were engineering majors.
2. You would actually know how to build a product. I worked with someone in operations for a top fast food chain who studied computer science. He single-handedly engineered an essential piece of tech they’ll need for a new store operational design.
3. Businesses value neurodiversity. As a business student, not much stands out about my way of thinking from other business students. There are music majors who make it to the most lucrative jobs in finance. You will have to understand the basics of the role, but they’ll value you for thinking differently.
this is from the perspective of construction, but in project management, if you are applying in a field where you are a knowledge matter expert, sometimes you are favored over generalist matter experts for example I do construction management, but a civil or electrical engineer is often preferred for my own job because of their license or ability to license for doing CAD.
license + EXP < degree + EXP < science degree + license -EXP -business knowledge
typically when this happens you are paired with a subject matter expert who will fill your deficiency.
Thanks for sharing!
Hey Shane. My college only offers "information systems" as a bachelors degree, not "Management" information systems. I was wondering if information systems is still a good choice
It depends on the course list for the degree, rather than the name. But most colleges use those names interchangeably.
If the IS degree has courses that cover SQL, BI tools (Tableau, Power Bi, or others), object oriented programming languages with libraries made for data analytics/data science (R and Python), and your typical business curriculum (survey of finance, accounting, management, and economics)..then I’d say it’s pretty comparable.

What about " business information system "?
Do you think I can get into HR with an accounting degree?
It won’t be too difficult, since accounting is highly looked up upon. Transferring from HR to accounting on the other hand is difficult
@@arslan9665 accounting itself is broad. It depends on the courses the student takes. For example, I’m double majoring and my majors are BBA in management and BBA in supply chain. I can easily become an accountant. Especially a cost accountant.
Why is there such a huge difference in a average salary between finance and accounting?
You have to keep in mind it’s average and not median. So finance numbers get skewed by large salaries. Accounting has more stability and you can make good money. Finance on the other hand is risker; However if you land a good enough job with bonuses and comps you can make hundreds of thousands if not millions of dollars once you get far enough into a career.
