    I have a bachelors and masters in accounting. It isn't rocket science but sometimes the accounting profession makes it rocket science so that we can charge our clients more. Also, I'm glad that Shane said accounting probably won't go away because all my friends who don't know what accounting is are telling me that it's gonna be replaced by machines and I'm like hey, just because buzzfeed said accountants are gonna be replaced by ChatGPT doesn't mean its true. This profession is not concerned about AI, Automation, or machine learning in the slightest. If anything, accountants have been waiting for decades for these technologies to come to fruition so that we can focus on other tasks.

    It is important to recognize that "difficult" is subjective. I am in a unique position because I have degrees in journalism and computer science. Obviously, the coursework for CS is generally considered much more difficult than journalism's (and that is a correct assessment). However, people really underestimate social skills.
    In my journalism courses, I constantly had to initiate conversations with strangers, many of whom were less than happy to speak with me. Many of my CS classmates told me they could never do that. During a journalism internship in Africa, I had to interview people in one of the worst slums in the world and soldiers carrying machine guns.
    Basically, I am saying that there are difficult aspects of every major. Also, I regret neither of my degrees nor my time in college. The only thing I regret is that I took out private loans.

    I think there’s a confusion between the difficulty of the degree vs the profession. Yes nursing may be an easier degree than an engineering degree but as a profession I feel that can be debated, ofc depending on preference but imo I’d slightly edge nursing more difficult as a profession. This is coming from someone who wants to study CS

      I have a background in physics & environmental engineer, I then did nursing. I'm now considering my options due to a bad neck, in Computer science. So I noticed your comment and wanted to thank you for letting him know it is a matter of opinion but the nursing programs at any given school are right on par with engineering for a reason. The advanced anatomy, physiology, med Surg, these are some of the most difficult materials one could ever attempt to learn. You are also having to learn this while performing late night clinicals and on little to no sleep! You have the direct responsibility of a life in your hand, and have to be quick!!! I told the guy off for such ignorance & claiming such sentiments as fact, as if he took nursing or is in an educated position to compare them? You can not compare two different arena's of science. Just because he found biology to be boring or unstimulating or "not difficult" doesn't classify it as easier but that of his own interpretation/opinion. Neither one is easy. That outlandishly false claim discredits him and I know now not to trust his overtly inflated channel or anything he says going forward. Him classifying nursing as an "easy" degree is a hoot & a half!!! I'd love to know if he became a nurse to state something that absurd!!! Thank you for standing up to his statement!!! I was hoping other people offended by that kind of arrogance would put him in his place! I'll find my computer science information from a far better source, as in people that actually work in it and at the schools. If this guy was successful, he'd be legit working & contributing in the world. He's a clown promoting another egocentric, God worship glorifying fest channel. 🙄PhD indeed!!! I never met one so daft & off and I've known plenty!!!

    Funny thing u said about nurses! I graduated in 1993- back then it was extremely difficult and about 50 percent of students I started with were booted out by graduation. By later 1990’s holy moley did I see that change! And what breaks my heart is that we need to go back to the rigorous curriculum of the ‘old days’ because medicine is more challenging and requires us to know and critically analyze successfully tons of scenarios on the fly! Fast paced and patients are sicker than ever. But- supply and demand. Thus, quantity over quality!

  • @islandsociete
    @islandsociete 6 місяців тому +13

    Lol, I'm in graduate economics, and have taken some graduate finance classes (I did engineering in undergraduate). Economics in graduate school is actually quite rigorous. It is all the business and finance classes that are much easier. So much so that 6000 students are enrolled in the graduate commerce, and only 300 in graduate economics. As soon as you mix any of the economics students into finance classes, the economics students come out with the high grades, and when you put any of the commerce students into the economics class, it turns out they had to make new classes just for the commerce students where all the mathematics is removed, just because too many were failing. On top of that the hardest class for a Master of Commerce student majoring in Economics is the prerequisite class for the actual Master of Economics. Even people from a Masters in International Relations were struggling in Economics.

Now... despite dropping out of high school, she's an amazing, highly-motivated person who just loves what she's doing as a nurse, so that definitely helps

    • @melissahouse3488
      @melissahouse3488 5 місяців тому +8

      What do you do? Kind of odd to focus on a sister in law. I have a background in physics & engineering (nuclear) and then I did nursing. My neck is crooked, so I'm considering computer science as a possible option for the remainder of my life. After everything I've done & my age, I am not interested in earning a master's and indebting myself. I'm past the age where that would make sense. This man is wrong, engineering is not harder than nursing. Nursing courses are on par with engineering. Ask any school that. The program is harder. Clinicals, responsibility, lack of sleep, it's dangerous. This guy lost all credibility stating such a biased opinion as fact. You can not compare the two. They are science and BOTH have extraordinarily difficult curriculum & elements involved in learning.

    What makes nursing school hard is not the material being taught. Anyone can memorize a bunch of information. What makes it hard is that you have to apply all that knowledge when testing. You are not tested on your ability to memorize information and then regurgitate it. You are caring for a patient with every question you are asked. Not only that but there is always at least 2 right answers for every question. You have to choose the best right answer for your patient and scenario. Anyone can read a book full of healthcare related facts. The question is, can you take all that information and apply it to your particular patient who has an individualized medical history of a number of other conditions which can be affected by the treatment the Dr just ordered, or cause a negative interaction with the meds the patient is already taking, which they may needs to continue taking. This is knowledge that usually becomes easy, almost intuitive, with experience. As a nursing student, you clearly don’t have that experience. As a nursing student you are taught to anticipate what the patient’s likely diagnosis is in order to anticipate what the Dr.’s orders will be. To make suggestions to new Dr.s on what to order, and to be able to question the prescriber before providing a medication or initiating an intervention that you better know is appropriate or not. Why? Because you as the nurse are the one giving the medication, or providing the intervention. So when something goes wrong, you should have known better than to follow those orders or instructions. Or you should have initiated an independent nursing intervention because you know the signs and symptoms that correspond to the diagnosis and the patient’s history, and medication list. You should have known better. Now as an NP student, pharmacology is taught by pharmacists. They are teaching right alongside the DNP teaching the clinical part but they stick to the pharmacology only because that information is above their pay grade. It’s interesting watching them try to suggest intervention and then watch the DNP make the correction right after.

    I was just in nursing school and I want to point out that clinicals are the hardest part of the program. DO NOT go into nursing if you are shy around others and uncomfortable with others. Nurses are grumpy a lot of the time and will not want to help you out in the clinical setting. I just quit because I hated clinicals. The tests were not hard for me though. I hardly studied and got good enough grades.

      @@Rocksolid1613 clinicals are not easy. You are juggling between filling out a ton of paperwork, figuring out the computers on your own, attempting to get a nurse to help you when they are not interested, going into a patients room to perform a task that you don’t know if you can actually do yet, and also completing all of the paperwork and tasks before you are able to leave the hospital. On top of those two nine hour days you have to go home and study for the remainder of the week and complete other class assignments. You also have to go to lecture which is usually about four or more hours. It is a tremendous amount of work so do it if you are prepared for it. I couldn’t see myself living that lifestyle the whole rest of my life.

    • @bluebelly
      @bluebelly 7 місяців тому +3

      If you are using Cerner for patient information it is going to be very challenging to fill out your clinical paperwork because there is so much information and it is hidden all over the place. There was no proper training that we got besides watching videos that were 5 hours long for Cerner training. This does not help at all. Also do not expect to shadow your instructor when you are in the hospital. You will hardly see them and at most you will see them only during lunch and for 5 other minutes the whole 9 hours you are there. Also, patients are not going to be happy a lot of the time. They are in the hospital for a reason. Everything that you perform must be professional with the patient and you must remember everything from skills labs.

      @@bluebelly I went into nursing after my former life in physics & environmental engineering. My bent neck is such a painful problem, I'm considering my options. I am great at consumer protections, I work currently for a firm from home. Computer science was an idea I had. It's offered at the community college as well as the college across from my condo for a bachelor's. My concern is if a masters would be required for most employment opportunities and starting so late in life. Thank you for your insight, regarding nursing and I found it very interesting, your perspective. I feel badly about your advice, I am shy but I was somehow good at performing. I didn't consider it a sociable situation, but a confidence one. I learned how to irrigate tubing and so many other tasks from notes from coworkers or my mom explaining what to do. You are correct, there isn't much support or help. An a lot of back stabbing from my experiences. There is a very dark, seedy, corrupt & toxic culture and it's spilled over into abuse of the patients and the patient care experience has suffered Immensely due to how caddy & nasty some are in the medical field. The longer they are in, the more callous they get. I also know drug addiction was wide spread. This is so dangerous & scary!!! I left because I have always been very strict & anti-drugs and nurses were turning to stealing & script thiefing, desperate for pain relief. Physical as well as emotional. The rate of injury is very high. I did not want to end up in a wheel chair, no job in this world is worth that!!! My courses were some of the most difficult one could attempt to take, so I didn't appreciate this ignorant clown falsely claiming nursing is easier as if it's fact. That is his ignorant opinion. Not a valid PhD if you ask me! I probably won't visit back here but I wish I knew how you happened onto here and what you plan on doing? How far did you get before quitting? I could relate with your final sentiment, that you couldn't see yourself doing it your whole life. They need to address the harassment, toxicity, pain, it's a broken system and they have the nerve to wonder why people don't want to do it anymore. I wish you blessings in your journey & May God guide you in your decisions for a successful, happy & promising future!!! The school clinical location should have been more supportive! That is what they partner for & agree to do. It's nobody's win if students walk away. It doesn't sound like an environment conducive to positive patient care and team work. This is a failure on your schools part, I am curious if you went to them with these valid concerns? I'm avoiding this channel going forward but I hope you find what you are looking for and can be happy!!! I appreciated your sharing about the frustration! I'm sorry, it's a shame since nurses are needed. A lot must change!

    I’m not saying Nursing is the hardest major in the world, but please don’t give people the impression that it’s easy.
    The homework you saw in question probably had to do with pharmacology. And yes, nursing students don’t go as in depth into the chemistry and science of drugs; but what makes nursing hard is the fact that it isn’t super in depth. You have to know a bunch of different things enough to apply your knowledge in a given scenario.
    For comparison:
    The dropout rate for computer science is 9.8%
    The dropout rate for pharmacy is 15%.
    The dropout rate for nursing school is 20%

      IT (at my school at least) only requires one math course if that sounds good to you!

    If these degrees are so easy, why doesn’t everyone pursue them? Why is the demand and salary for each somewhat inelastic?

      oh they do, but you won't see most of them getting a job since they never cared about their major.

    How hard do you guys think is CS compared to IT? Can you scale them out of 10 (ex: IT=4/10 , CS=9/10)

    • @Allixar
      @Allixar Рік тому +1

      I found IT easier since I can take Calculus 1 and Discrete Math to fulfill the math requirements but CS has more math class. IT is just CS lite.

      IT is usually easier but some employers view it as a CS dropout major unfortunately. Both degrees will get you to 6 figures though if you get internships that are higher than helpdesk.
