I played this game so much back in the day and it amazes me how resilient Amiga gamers were to the limitations of a one button controller...it made some games in the day so much more difficult...great video thanks. Also, it amazes me on how many quick and dirty ports were done for both the ST and Amiga, yet perhaps software piracy was the source of spending less time investing on a game...cheers.
The best version of Strider is either the original arcade (can be found on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 on PS2 and Xbox (The Xbox version was never released in Europe)) or the Mega Drive (known as the Genesis in North America).
Pretty sure this was developed for the Speccy, CPC, ST, Amiga and PC on the same dev machine with shared code! (Maybe in C?) Adjusting for individual graphics modes, they are all sadly much the same, just with a couple of things added.
I've also just noticed the corrupted graphics, most noticeable in the intro when he's flying in on the hang glider, this port is probably even worse than the spectrum version
Ech, moja pierwsza gra na Amigę. Grałem w to non stop, Amiga 0,5 MB, poprzez modulator podłączona do TV. Tych dźwięków nie zapomnę do końca życia. Dziękuje.
I remember playing that when I was a kid and getting so frustrated when it gets starts over again, even played it over again to see if the ending changed, it doesn't!!!
A running joke I had with a mega drive owning friend who had this on his console was that you could press jump, go and make a cup of tea and your character would have landed by the time it was brewed. The game was laughably slow - arguably the worst ever.
All of the computer ports are missing the final battle, which even the Sega Master System port (also done by Tiertex) managed to include, though in simplified form.
I have no idea why that company exsisted after a couple of games converted by them, if I had my way I would have bankrupt them and forbid them from ever converting games.
Recently revisited this, the mod version of the amazon theme is brilliant, but that seems to be what they blew the budget on. so many corners cut and then the ending. horrific. and don't even get me started on the tiertex sequel of strider that differs from being "horrendously difficult" on the megadrive to "simply crap" on the computer ports.
The greedy, cheap software publishers like US Gold that used terrible coders such as Tiertex are most to blame. Paying peanuts for inferior product and ripping the kids out of their pocket money. Also Magazines like CU and Zzap! that must of been taking back handers. Any game that was either a straight ST port or didnt utilize the Amiga's superior abilities to a decent degree should of had that mentioned in reviews.
Its exactly because we were exploited, not only by the developers but also their bribed buddies in the computer mags, that i felt no guilt whatsoever picking up the odd copy in the school playground. They started it with their greed.
Was dreaming at the time for a 1:1 port or at least a port at level of the PC-Engine one, also using EHB and semi-interactive music (several tunes per area) full screen and at one or two frames! Would not matter if was TEN discs, as long it was faithful! :( btw was with THIS game that the hatred for those-who-cannot-be-named-politely arose...
Really sad seeing a great Mega Drive/arcade game get reduced to such a hot mess. The cool final boss battle didn't make it in... now that's a sacrilege! Most of the BGM is gone. A developer whose name I will not speak here blew it again.
This game only takes 20 minutes to clock? I liked this game back in the day, but never knew this port was so inferior. Just got the PSN remake - it's pretty sweet!
If i am not mistaken this was a US Gold game, i don't get it why Capcom gave the licence to incompetent people. it could be close to Megadrive if you drop the 2nd playfield.
It wasnt Doom that killed the Amiga it was conversions as bad as this one that did it for me. You go into a game store and see the Amiga and Megadrive versions running next to eachother, which one are you gonna choose. Luckily the Amiga had a ton of great exclusives but the acrade ports such as this could be depressingly bad.
It's a shame, this port looks decent enough, however, it runs very slowly which kinda makes Strider's gameplay null in comparison to the Arcade or the Megadrive/Genesis port, plus it's a shame that the soundtrack in this version is very limited.
First time I've seen the Amiga version. So it's a direct ST port but they somehow managed to make it 10 times slower. Plays ok on the ST I guess, but definitely not a great game on either machine.
What a shitfest. To those who think this is the Amiga’s power. It is not. The Amiga can do so much more when given time and effort. This has 0 effort and looks like it was slapped together for a quick buck.
the level 1 theme for all stages & the boss 1 theme for all bosses; and worse yet: NO battle with GM Meio at the end of the game... truly Amiga owners got the short, feces-incrusted end of the stick with this one! on the one plus= it doesn't reach "AKIRA: The Game" levels of bad, close as this might seem...!
Apparently tiertex was given only 6 months to make 5 or 6 versions of this game across all major computers... yeah the results speak for themselves lmao. Utter trash!

Thanks for popping by, sadly Tiertex were the shits at converting 16-bit games.
The best version of Strider is either the original arcade (can be found on Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 on PS2 and Xbox (The Xbox version was never released in Europe)) or the Mega Drive (known as the Genesis in North America).
The Megadrive version is a beast for the time 89/90, and memory constraints.
I'd add the PC Engine version, wonderful, with cut-scenes and an entire extra level.

It's a bad port, but still got such a vibe. Also, the intro music is just so poignant for me.
Pretty sure this was developed for the Speccy, CPC, ST, Amiga and PC on the same dev machine with shared code! (Maybe in C?) Adjusting for individual graphics modes, they are all sadly much the same, just with a couple of things added.
DAMN YOU, TIERTEX!
TO HELL!! >:-(
I've also just noticed the corrupted graphics, most noticeable in the intro when he's flying in on the hang glider, this port is probably even worse than the spectrum version
I want to go back in time, visit the Tiertex offices (probably run out of someones shed) and go... PAR, PAR, PAR, PAR with a large bladed weapon.
Well you might like the unofficial Strider Il better due to it's funny ending,...it's also on my channel.
"Ha Ha... This was just a test.... Now for the real thing"....
Proceeds to level 1 again......
So many memories..thank you for this
No problem, enjoy the channel!
I had a copy of this on my Amiga 500. Luckily I didn't pay or it. I love how the only sound effect is "par!"
+matt street
You wanna check out the Amiga sequel on my channel :-/ ,...phew! :-(
i think has a few more. an explosion and a pick up item sound but their nothing to write home about.
A running joke I had with a mega drive owning friend who had this on his console was that you could press jump, go and make a cup of tea and your character would have landed by the time it was brewed. The game was laughably slow - arguably the worst ever.
Tiertex had no f*cking clue whatsoever when it came to 16-bit conversions, just utterly crud,...all of them!
Amazingly... it isn't even tiertex's worst conversion .
All of the computer ports are missing the final battle, which even the Sega Master System port (also done by Tiertex) managed to include, though in simplified form.
I have no idea why that company exsisted after a couple of games converted by them, if I had my way I would have bankrupt them and forbid them from ever converting games.
Zzap magazine gave this 96%!!!! They must have been bribed. :)

The worst thing is that Strider is even one from Tiertex better conversions. In compare to games like Tiger Road or Thunder Blade is Strider playable.

That's what my whole "Sh*t Game Time" review series is all about, check them out!

Good evening, I loved this game on the Amiga, it's not the best of the year, but the soundscape and the music make me climb to the ceiling, great.
Could have had something like the Sega Genesis port, instead we got the Master System port
Yeah pretty much :-(
Has anyone got hold of one of the devs from tiertex for an interview? I'm curious how they'd answer for this crime against gaming?

Yep no doubt Amiga could do much better but what you expect when U.S. Gold is involved :-(
amazingly the game isnt even finished. there is no ending.
If i am not mistaken this was a US Gold game, i don't get it why Capcom gave the licence to incompetent people. it could be close to Megadrive if you drop the 2nd playfield.
I wish Ocean software had done Street Fighter 1, the moment you see either U.S. Gold or Tiertex on a box you knew it was going to be a sad day :'-(

Plays like a ZX Spectrum game with color. It's not complete garbage but not a worthy port on the Amiga either.
It's a shame, this port looks decent enough, however, it runs very slowly which kinda makes Strider's gameplay null in comparison to the Arcade or the Megadrive/Genesis port, plus it's a shame that the soundtrack in this version is very limited.

Yeah many games were ST ports not taking any advantage of the Amigas superior hardware.
What a shitfest.

That's U.S.Gold for you.
@@ZEUSDAZus mold, as I call em?
You dare fight me??????? Bwahahhahahahahhahahahhahahahaha.
This what I came here to see....
"Ha Ha... This was just a test.... Now for the real thing"....
Proceeds to level 1 again......
Zzap Magazine gave this 96%!! 🙄🙄😆😆
Tiertex seems to have never made any quality ports
Not bad considering it's Tiertex, but compared to the Megadrive version, it's a joke.
the level 1 theme for all stages & the boss 1 theme for all bosses; and worse yet: NO battle with GM Meio at the end of the game... truly Amiga owners got the short, feces-incrusted end of the stick with this one! on the one plus= it doesn't reach "AKIRA: The Game" levels of bad, close as this might seem...!
Totally agree with the comments below...another conversion of a great game ruined by infamous Tiertex....
p' p' paar!
Apparently tiertex was given only 6 months to make 5 or 6 versions of this game across all major computers... yeah the results speak for themselves lmao. Utter trash!
ok graphics, ok sound, horrible framerate
This is a VERY old upload back when UA-cam were awful at reducing framerates whilst uploading.
For an amiga.. not really. It has hardware scrolling. Look at how turrican runs compared to this turd.
poor programming at its finest.
This is so bad. The music, graphics, everything about it. Terrible..
God bless Tiertex :-/
Haw haw ha ha ha ha haw
