It depends on our travel and work schedule. We have booked several months in advance and we have booked same day. When near a national park or other tourist destination, it's harder to find places last minute (although it can be done). The key is flexibility on types of sites. However, what we want and need from a site changes based on whether we're there for 1 or 2 nights versus 1 or 2 weeks.
