"On The Third Day" is, in my mind, one of the GREATEST breakout albums of all time. I listen to it religiously to this day, and I am 63 years old. The SEVENTIES! The weekend that lasted a decade. Wish I had taken more notes because I sure let the memory go to hell. If you were there, you know what I mean.
I feel as though ELO got slicker, glossier, and more over-produced with each passing album... and _On the Third Day_ was pretty much their last album on which they still maintained some of that early 'rough' sound which Roy had imbued into them.
the sound has been later made better ELO was not that good in concert, the string players were not usually properly hears in the concerts original tape was later done better in the new tehnique
This is just fucking amazing! Just shows that ELO were much, much, much more than 'that' band accused of lip-synching and 'Don't Bring Me Down'. Not that us fans ever needed much convincing... This should be part of ANY bands education...
ELO is amazing up to Out of the Blue. It's amazing to see them in their prog rock period -- On the Third Day is an underrated masterpiece. Thanks ELOnut for posting this.
This music is as good as the day we first heard it all those years ago.. Those of us who were young in the 70s have aged but this masterpiece MOST DEFINATELY HAS NOT!!!! The were beyond genius.
This was a peak for ELO. This is one of the greatest live performances of anything I've ever heard. Also, this suite of songs or sections is one of the most stupendous creations in music, including the work of the great classical composers. This work could hardly be stronger, from the sweet lilting sections to the fiery dramatic parts. Mr. Lynne & Co. outdid themselves on this work. I only wish Lynne had included his beautiful wordless singing in the sweet, soft section.
I bought Elo Live:The early years dvd last week, and I noticed that it's a perfect song to start a concert...it's really sensational, beautiful. Mik Kaminski and Hugh's costumes are so nice.
I love this album (OTTD). For me, 'Eldorado' is ELO's masterpiece, but this comes a very close second. The edge, rawness and experimentation are still there, but on some tracks, like 'Bluebird Is Dead' and 'New World Rising', you can hear the great ELO sound of the mid-to-late Seventies beginning to take shape... 😍
Simply brilliant! Hadn't seen this before it came up on my suggested playlist. I have On The Third day the album on clear vinyl and this track is superb. This live version is amazing - better than I thought - wish I could have been there although would have only been 10 at the time.
Stare dobre Electric Light Orchestra znam ten koncert , oglądałem go ostatnio na DVD ,a ten koncert to jeden z trzech na DVD Electric Light Orchestra Early Years . Początki zespołu Electric Light Orchestra nic dodać nic ująć klasyka muzyki rockowej z symfoniczną.
Never saw this before! Cool AF! Love the "raw" stuff and the highly orchestrated stuff from the next four albums to follow. Love II thru Out of the Blue! Beautiful!
Excellent post ELONut. I would never have thought live footage of them in their early days would be available, so this is a treat for me. I love ELO from 1972 to the double album.
@@kevinsiu3769 Of course, the mentality of Jeff Lynne was always to evolution and don't get stick on a specific sub-genre or genre, that's why the catalogue of E.L.O. was diverse and versatile.
@@dl1027 Actually, I love both OTTD and Eldorado, they're two superb albums in their own right! Very different to each other, of course, but both absolutely brilliant
On the third day was my first ELO album - they played one of the songs in a record store (1973/74) and I just had to purchase the album! ELO's best album no doubt!! 💯🎶🎵
The first four albums are my favorite ELO time period, with "On The Third Day' being my favorite album. What a gem this video is: thank you for posting this -- such a great find
Practicing my falsetto on the last part of the intro. Beautiful melody from my very favorite ELO album. Amazing! Imagine Jeff and Roy Wood collaborating again - two geniuses. :-)
Thanks a million ELONut for posting this. I would have never guessed that they had live footage from this period. I love there stuff from No Answer up to (and including) Out of the Blue. This album was quite experimental.
It strongly smells as jazz-similar composition , but even despite of that I can hear this song to its end . Jazz is most unliked kind of music for me , but Jeff Lynne is most liked music genius Electric Light Orchestra - forever !
Thanks a lot ELONut for posting some surprisingly clear live footage from their early days. On the Third Day, Eldorado, ELO/No Answer and New World Record are my favourite albums, but really, there not a bad song on every one of their albums up to and including the double album Out of the Blue.
They were excelent and the best band for me. Due their eclectic and hability to make excelent songs in various genres. They all always were open-minded with music and never were fanatic extremist of any genre.
Wow great to hear such a great recording of this music from when it was new. A faithful performance but with enjoyable Live subtleties. One of my favorite records by anybody. Hope there is more of this gig out there
On the third day es a mi gusto el mejor disco de la Electric Light Orchestra y este vídeo es sensacional ya que pertenece a esa época, ademas de ser muy raro. Que perfecta canción es King of the Universe', gracias por publicar este gran vídeo!!!
This is evidence that ELO was a band that sounded amazing live. Yes, their sound was fully realized in the studio, but for a band to reproduce the magic on stage speaks volumes about the song craft and musicianship.
live elo was better than recorded elo ..in my opinion..live was edgy little more dirty but still great vocals & harmonies ..2 singers ..kelly & jeff doing a ton of work...
Jeff and that WILD hair, loved his original group🥰

I'm 47. Love on the third day. In my top three ELO favs. Time and No Answer are the others.
Hiram Davis your 70 now...well hopefully...do u still listen “religiously”...

I'm 32 and absolutely love this album and ELO!
Proof positive that they weren't just a studio band. Those early albums were superb.
Old stuff is fun to watch.
Back when he was happily married. 😊
Funny how Bev Bevan said in his book the early Electric Light Orchestra confers sucked sound quality wise .Bev Bevan stayed this in his book .
Lol people need proof!??? Just by their songs and over all ingenuousness I could tell they were a all you could ask for in a band haha!
the sound has been later made better
ELO was not that good in concert, the string players were not usually properly hears in the concerts
original tape was later done better in the new tehnique
No shades, no blue violin...the location looks like the basement of a pub. (or a university)
This is early ELO, the best ELO :)
Jeff and that WILD hair, love him and espresso his first group🥰
Awesome! On the Third Day. This is the sound Jeff Lynne should have stayed with. This will always be the true Electric Light Orchestra for me.
Agreed! I love the invocations of Resurrection throbs.
On The Third Day - one of my absolute fabourite ELO albums, man the first time I heard Daybreaker as a kid I nearly fell over with joy - lol
Their music changed over the years, they were great all the time.
Most versatile band i have known...Love ELO!

This was in the students union I do believe but wherever it was it shows how good they were live. PURE GOLD so much talent.
Wish there was a few more live concerts of On the Third Day, its on of my favorite albums.
I just LOVE Jeff's voice! He can do so much with it!
RIP Richard Tandy 🎹
Third album set a high standard.
Saw ELO performing On The Third Day Tour live at Manchester Free Trade Hall in February 1974. Amazing sound.
What an absolute, priceless gem! Thanks for sharing - even if it was 10 years ago! :-)
This is what youtube is great for, would never see back in the day
This sounds better than the record!!!
Excellent song. I never saw this LIVE ❤️😂
I just can't get enough. Go, Jeff. I love you guys.
Jeff and Bev are wearing matching shirts lol
Jeff is so badass. Awesome, awesome video!
This is exactly why Jeff Lynne is the coolest man of all time.

Whish I could turn back time 45 years and be there!
Jeff Lynne before he got his sun glasses glued to his face.

the smile of Jeff Lynne did after that performance, it was was something else
Yep.
YES!!! Thank you for sharing the obscure ELO tunes! Much love!
Superb🌐 Love how this song transitions. Hard to believe I was only in the third grade when this performance took place. Damn oh how I love the 70s❣️
I have this album and played it to death back in the day. I always loved it.
Me too. On the 3rd Day was my first ELO love. I was disappointed went Eldorado came out and they had completely changed the sound of the band.
@@dl1027 mostly changed because Roy Wood left and Jeff Lynne wanted to change the sound of the band

Yeah but well i think both have different visions so...
On The Third Day was the best alagamation of the embryonic ELO and the latter, slicker, version most have come to know and love.
Wow! Very nice find. For this being a live performance, you don't see them this perfect today. Very impressive! Thx ELONut!

Pure genius artist
Capes were big that year (1973). Rick Wakeman of Yes wore a sparkly silver one. I would like to see capes come back!
Very cool. Never seen this before.
great music. biased in my top 3 ELO releases. for a good reason imho.
Fantastic - wish I'd been there, but this is such an important record of their work.

Amazing band it was around these days. First 3 albums amazing.
Big shout out to mike al bequique ...
One of the best videos I have seen from this era. Thanks for posting!
Saw them in 73. See the awesome ELO neon lite on the stand ? Big difference from their later shows
One of the better sound clips of the band, I think mainly because the cellists aren't running around pretending to be Chuck Berry or whatever.
Wow great to hear such a great recording of this music from when it was new. A faithful performance but with enjoyable Live subtleties. One of my favorite records by anybody. Hope there is more of this gig out there
Wow! A great version of one of my favorites! Thanks for posting.

Yep! I went as "Xanadu Jeff" for Halloween this year!!!
I fucking love that song
OMG, amazing! Truly one of the best early live clips I've ever seen. Thanks for posting this gem!
