This footage is from 1924 or even late 1923. Not 1927. Colleen and Ben Lyon are in costume for PAINTED PEOPLE which I believe was released in February of 1924. So you have to think that it was shot in the fall or early winter of 1923. A lost film in which Colleen played a Tomboy character and was part of a Baseball team.

Oh, hahaha, I love these glimpses back into early Hollywood. It is so interesting to see these people moving around. So many of their films are gone now, & they look so different in motion, as compared with the still photos of them that remain. Thanks for the post! 🤷‍♀️🥂

Who are the two boxing Sweethearts? One I'm pretty sure is Clara Bow. She was on the First National lot at the time. The other one with the longer hair I'm not sure about? But man, she had some great legs and was a real looker!

And the black janitor didn't even care. Do you know why?
Because he's an American and knows who he is and loves himself and trusts the goodness and lighthearted ribbing and acting Americans do. It's no big deal. Maybe the janitor can dress up in whiteface? I would laugh. It's funny! America would laugh.
No one would get butt-hurt about it. But Black Americans were not Democrats back then. They were Lincoln Republicans.

Nobody got "butt-hurt" about it because as soon as Black people tried to voice their rights, they'd get lynched, fired, ostracized. That man could probably lose his job if he so much as looked funny at a famous, white actor. Just because it is not a big deal to you does not mean that it isn't a big deal for other people, especially if you consider the *context* of the situation. I wonder how funny you'd think white-face would be if you and me and all other white people had been enslaved for centuries based on race, and in the fifty years since the Emancipation you still didn't have voting rights, were still barred from holding office or getting a good job, and your children were barred from good schools because they just happened to be white, and on top of that, you're told that you being poor (without a good job or education, go figure) is your *own* fault, and that you should "pull yourself up by your bootstraps".
I don't think you would laugh about it then. It's salt in existing wounds. But be thankful you don't ever have to experience all that to find out for yourself.

Music is simply dreadful. Sounds like a funeral march. Followed by 70's Mood music. UHG! The music should be bright and snappy and indicative of the era for this footage. Colleen Moore and Ben Lyon are both in costume for the feature PAINTED PEOPLE which was released in early 1924. So how that footage ended up in a 1927 short I have no idea? Since PAINTED PEOPLE also known as THE SWAMP ANGEL is a long-lost film it is good to have this footage. However, this short would appear to be from 1924 and not 1927.
