I just changed out the magneto coil and spark plug. Mind you the coil and spark plug still worked fine but the plug wire end was rusted out so that’s why I changed it. Now the issue I’m having is the engine is revving up very high and sounds like it’s going to take off. Would using the wrong magneto cause this? My B&S didn’t have a part number but I did find the engine code and the part number online that matched my mower so I bought that one. My mower looks like yours. I even moved the idle arm that you were talking about and it didn’t change the sound of the motor.

I've got a 4-horse on and older Snapper and it's got a combo mechanical and bi-metal with the crankcase breather tube working the bi-metal and kicking the choke o0ff. Starts on the 2nd pull almost all the time. Good explanation and keep picking. GBWYall!

My ride on will not rev up and if I push the governor arm that's connected to the carburetor nothing happens it just keeps idleing when I put the throttle lever to full open still nothing but starts and idle fine it's a 12 and a half horse briggs , love the video man 👌👍💪💪

Interesting video, not seen an air governor before. It would be interesting, if not fun, to see what would happen to a non-governed engine at full throttle; would it reach a maximum revs or run until it destroyed itself? Thanks for sharing.

Thanks. both can happen, a stock engine will usually only go up to a certain rpm but even at that rpm its not designed to run at, so it stands a very strong chance of throwing a rod. Thanks for Watching!!!

@@fnaguitarplayer9 I experienced that today. Air vane governor snapped off and mower ran at max rpm. Ended up throwing a bunch of my dad's rags into the air intake to jam it off. Got lucky, but now I'm on the hunt for parts

Got a vote from me. Been wondering for 40 years why there are two governor springs. Found out before I died.

So how do you SET it??????????

If the ignition coil is replaced, the air vane may need to be trimmed to clear the top of the new part. It will rev high and the springs will be useless otherwise.

My engine must be a mutt. Mine has a wind vein and the long rod running under the flywheel, coming from a rod out of the top of the crank case
